Well, between this and Taking It Easy it looks like Merisiel/Kyra shipping is all but officially sanctioned!
And I would not want to live in this village.

You know speaking of that I have been a bit surprised not to see fanfic about the inconics since they are pretty popular.

I hope that its not the badly written, or even well-written, romantic version of fanfic.
Though frankly, that just means they have a fan following, and I'll never read it anyway.

I have to say that I love the thread!
However Merisiel has been a very BAD influence on my elven wizard.*wags finger at Merisiel*
He won't put clothes on and runs into battle naked, he colors his mounts rainbow patterns and won't stop trying to Mage Hand mushrooms into everyone's mouth!! (especially the paladin)
Plus he keeps insisting he's at least 3 levels higher than everyone becuase of the Elven Snark ability that he believes he gets xp for.
*Shakes fist at Merisiel*
But then again his name IS Skittles that should've told me something right there.
Great Elven Snark:
DM- "You realize it's the Lamm who you're after, the very same man who got you kicked out of the Academae."
Skittles- "To the fire store!"
or running through the streets shouting that Queen Ileosa wants to kill herself!
There should be an Elven Snark thread methinks.

nice stories, ladies! shame on you boys!
looks like rebuking death leaves serious damages on the brain. otherway I can`t explain why the drunk thug can`t keep an journal after he remained without his drugs. I think Valeros should be better left to die.
something is wrong in this adventure... the cleric is the best fighter and the most rational of all, when he is suposed to stand on the back and mumble to the gods. the barbarian is the best writter and storyteller, when is expected to be slowthinking and quickraging. the elf is shortminded and imature, when is presumed to be full of calm and wisdom, even as an rogue. the wizzard is incoerent and grumpy, when his primary abilities are Wisdom and Inteligence. and the fighter... well, I allready talked about the fighter and is no need to give more bravos to the "hot" Qadira girl...
mister DM, pleas find an quick way to throw those two boys into an endless pit and let the ladies have fun with the crypt villain.
p.s. they call them barbarian because are uneducated and uncivilized or only because they needed an name for a class tjat can wield gargatuan swords?!

James -- is Merisiel bisexual or is that just the way you're playing her. That bathhouse picture is still in my head.
We haven't officially said one way or another for any of the iconics which ones are straight, gay, or bi... and in any event, a Jason Bulmahn dungeon is certainly no place to get distracted by anything like that since there's doubtless an unfair encounter waiting to TPK the party who's not paying attention just around the corner!
That said... she's certainly noticed both Valeros and Kyra so far in the game. She's kind of afraid of Amiri, and is pretty sure that Ezren hates her, though, which makes her suspicious of him, because how could anyone NOT like Merisiel?

She's kind of afraid of Amiri
Amiri is fascinated with Merisiel. She loves your bladework and is totally perplexed by your "devil may care" attitude and seemingly fearless demeanor. In many ways, Amiri wishes she was just a bit more like Merisiel. But she also sees that she needs to be there with Kyra to pick Merisiel and Valeros off the floor should their impetuousness get them in a heap of trouble. So she hangs back a bit, just so all of our warrior types aren't in a bad position. Amiri just wishes that you would leave just a little bit of the slaying for her. :)

The reason this thread (and Pathfinder as a whole) is great is because it shows the versatility of the classes in the hands of veteran players. Amiri is a wonderful representation of what you can do with the class beyond stats and dice rolls and feats etc. Sure a bit of what I've heard many players refer to as (and whine about) "stereotyping the classes" is going on in regards to say Ezren and Valeros. However Amiri in particular shows a barbarian that actually hangs back in a fight and thinks in terms of tactics which provides a refreshing view of 'the warrior types'
I could go on and on about Paizo and how they've reinvigorated the fantasy rpg and how this thread is evidence of that.
Again, props to you Paizo staff, I think players both veteran and new should read this thread to get a sense of going beyond stats and dice.

Regarding the whole sexuality thing...I tend not to notice in the game. Jason's games are LETHAL. There tend to be very little sexual interaction on these lines that I can see. Now, that said, in our Eberron game, the Kid took a liking to Zulshynn. It was understood amongst the party that these two were an item....but it never came to the front in game time.
In this game, it's been obvious that Valeros would bed any of the ladies, if given the chance. Kyra (in terms of MY take on her) is passionate in her devotion to Sarenrae....although a stripped-down Valeros has definitely caught her attention. Now, if he weren't such a reckless, full-of-himself drunk, she might think more of him. Merisiel is, frankly, exasperating to Kyra. She never slows down, never stops to think. But Kyra likely notices that Merisiel is quick with the blades, and probably the most devastatingly consistent in attacks. Now if she'd just stop LOOKING for trouble.... For Amiri, Kyra sees a dependable, but LOUD and proud, woman. She's one that Kyra doesn't get frustrated with....much.
For the backstory in this game, Kyra has travelled far on her journey to enlightenment, her siyahat. She is learning about the world, the people in it, and the evils that threaten it. She is looking to be tested by Sarenrae, to prove to her goddess (and herself) that she can be a force of good in the world. As James has written for her Iconic intro, she is "possessed of a fierce will and pride in her faith and skills with the scimitar," and "has found peace in the Everlight, and in the belief that, if she can prevent even one death at evil hands, her own losses will not have been in vain."
I find it amusing that I keep finding myself playing the serious one in these Paizo campaigns. In my other games, I am usually the cocky one, and definitely the loose cannon in terms of the DM's viewpoint. It's weird, but I tend to step outside my "comfort zone" in Jason's games.
Lisa Stevens CEO |
Its interesting, Amiri really finds Kyra to be the calm in the midst of the storm. There is something about her that just radiates assurance and calm. It probably has to do with her always seeming to have the answer to any problem faced by the group. Amiri finds herself attracted to that calm assurance, much like she was to the wise woman of her tribe, to whom the whole tribe looked for direction. Kyra is that wise woman.
Valeros is perplexing. He is obviously a strong and capable swordsman, and quite nice to look at dripping wet, but he is also a bit of a souse and he acts at time like a belligerent drunk, running pellmell into trouble. Amiri would like to find a fellow combatant that she could bond with, but Valeros' attitude leaves her feeling confused and so she seeks the calm of Kyra to ground her.
And finally, Ezren. Amiri distrusts magic for the most part. She was raised to be suspicious of it. And this old geezer is grumpy, caustic, and according to the comments of her fellow adventurers, not all there. It is hard to trust someone who can wield such power when they have one screw loose. But Amiri has told herself not to jump to conclusions and to have a more open mind when it comes to magic. She is hoping that she can one day trust this old man, but could see a day when she might need to save the group by running him through with her sword. But she hopes that day never comes.
Tonight will most likely be the end of the first adventure. Somehow, Amiri doesn't feel like she is that much more powerful than she was at the start, and that worries her. A powerful undead seems just like the perfect boogeyman to end her stay on this world.

What does CEO stand for??
Caffeine Entitlement Orderly? I think that means she's the lady who goes around with the tea-trolley whilst all the senior executives are working late, burning the midnight oil.
Obviously the most important job in the company, keeping the resident geniuses topped up with their caffeine fixes, but I don't know she gets the respect she deserves from the management staff.... :Dvagrant-poet |

Chief Executive Officer. Basically, it means I am in charge. <stands at Paizo's bow as she cuts through the waves> "I'm on top of the world!"
It also means that I rarely get to stop thinking about Paizo. Which can be a good thing or a bad thing if you think about it. :)

With the final rules handed in, is a game scheduled for monday?
I hope so; it's up to Jason, obviously. But he's not on easy street now just because the rules are over to layout; he pretty much immediately had to start working on his portions of the Pathfinder Bestiary, and will soon thereafter need to start going over the hundreds of monster stat blocks in there to make sure they all mesh with the rules.
I hope the game's on, of course... it's been too long since I got to stab something (or since I got to TRY to stab something only to discover Jason's found another monster that's immune to or resistant to piercing weapons...).

Pfff ... that is the problem with assigning your DM/GM to editing statblocks .. inevitably, those critters find themselves in front of you in your PCs' adventures...

There was a lot of bats. I hid from them.
There were two statues on rollers that tried to push me into a pit. I dodged.
There was a room filled with skeletons. I got stabbed and clawed to ribbons in less than 12 seconds, then woke up some time later after folks were splitting up the treasure.
Adventuring is starting to feel dangerous!
