Hmmm I still don't 'get' how being a PFS GM works.

Do you get Boons or something? whats the 'in it for me' for PFS GM's?

Maybe I don't really want to know though - PFS is the only time I actually get to PLAY a game.

Sovereign Court 5/5 5/5 ****

Here is the quick and dirty version:

At present, as a GM, you get to apply a copy of the cert from the module you ran (but only the first time you run it), to a character of your choice.

You receive full gold, prestige, and xp, as well as access to all items on the chronicle.

You do not receive any boons, unless there is nothing but boons on the chronicle (i.e. no items).

Other than that, you receive the warm and fuzzy feeling of killing lots of PCs... I mean, providing fun and entertainment for players ;-)

4/5 5/55/55/55/5

Geez you must have felt pretty bloody fuzzy that last session then :p

Cheers Luke!

Given the dynamics of my current group, there was a half conversation about us moving to a PFS format, so these things are good to know.

The Exchange 5/5

Ladies and Gents, The Shadow Lodge games day at Burwood for this month (28th of April) is live on Warhorn for registrations.
The games will be Silent Tide (Tier1-5), Midnight Mauler (Levels 3-7) and Heresy of Man Part Three (Levels 5-9)
My thanks have to go out to Michael Foster who will be GM'ing a table for us on the day and I hope to see all of you on the day

Shadow Lodge

Is Masks of the Living God a 2-part scenario? Just looking at the 5/5 Schedule and it seems to appear in both slots with the same players.

Sovereign Court 5/5 5/5 ****

*looks innocent*

I have no idea what you are talking about, Shifty :-P

Although to be fair, if that was the case, I would have had an even fuzzier feeling after Shang Xu in part I :-/

----------------

Masks of the Living God is a Pathfinder Module, and runs roughly 2-3 times as long as a normal PFS scenario.

That is why it is running all day :-)

Shadow Lodge

Aw. Guess I'll pass that one. Damn work.

I'm still tossing up which was more horribly broken

Shang Xu in Part I or 'General Rapeme the Killer Panda' in III

However I accept that there were benevolent gods watching...

Sovereign Court 5/5 5/5 ****

From a detached perspective, definitely the former, but I accept that the Scarzni might have a differing opinion ;-)

The Exchange

Is General Rapeme the Killer Panda who I think it is... The one who made it so that Hans was split into at least 18 pieces?

Sovereign Court 5/5 5/5 ****

Yes.

Shadow Lodge

I feel rather proud of my antics today.

Shadow Lodge

May 19th 2012 is the introduction the Penrith Shadow Lodge's FIRST Pathfinder Society Game's Day. We encourage all players to come down to the store and be involved in the "First Steps" series. We also encourage all new comers to the Pathfinder RPG to come down and experience Society Organised Play :)

Session Times:

10am-2pm | First Steps: Part I- Service to Lore
3pm-7pm | First Steps: Part II- To Delve the Dungeon Deep
8pm-11pm | First Steps: Part III- A Vision of Betrayal

anyone who has not played PFS can arrive at 9am for a brief overview given by myself and Brendan Missio, also character creation is to be done before the game but if you come at this time we can assist also.

The Exchange 5/5

Ladies and Gentleman the Next Pathfinder Society Games day at Good Games Burwood, the 26th of May, is now open for discussion please head over to the Event page and give us your opinion about you want us to run

For more information please go to Shadow Lodge Facebook page or the Facebook Event page

Shadow Lodge

By the way guys, do we have anything going on for Free RPG Day?

Sovereign Court 5/5 5/5 ****

I will probably be running something at the Sydney store :-)

Grand Lodge 1/5

Damn - gonna miss another month of PFS thanks to business travel... hmmmm... maybe I should check out PFS Sapporo?

Grand Lodge 1/5

And... nothing I can find

Sovereign Court 5/5 5/5 ****

Yeah, Living campaigns are kind of thin on the ground in Japan; I remember back in the days of LG, the only 'regular' game being run was a private one run by a group of Australian expats in Tokyo :-/

Having said that, they were a nice bunch of people :-)

Sovereign Court 5/5 5/5 ****

Currently taking requests for Saturday, May 19th at Good Games in Sydney :-)

Thus far, there has been a request for 'Decline of Glory', but we are still open to additional suggestions :-)

Also, it would be nice to know if the people who participated in Part I of 'First Steps' have *not* been scared off... I mean, have been left wanting more..., and would like Part II run this month ;-)

Shadow Lodge

Aw poo, I missed the game last Saturday. Could've been Level 5 by now.

Decline for Glory sounds interesting, read some reviews. Apparently it can take ages was what some people said. Not that I have a problem with that. C:

A couple of weeks ago I introduced some teenage boys to Pathfinder at the store. They are now planning on coming to this. To help out I have made them some "PFS Folios". These include a copy of the guide, the scenerio tracker (thanks Ontario), and a blank character sheet in a display book. I have made 10 of them, but don't expect to need them all for the interested parties. Did you wish to have the remainder for the day?? I would really encourage these to be for totally new players, experienced gamers can make their own.

Grand Lodge 1/5

I won't be back to Sydney in time for this months games. Will have to catch everyone next month - and I may have business travel that ALSO impacts on June play too.

Isn't there a convention or two coming up in June?

That's excellent! I'm sure that any left over can be used for new players at future events.

So whats running at supanova sydney this year?

Grand Lodge 1/5

Is it the only con? I this funny feeling there are others and that we have the Queens B'day thing coming up.

Sovereign Court 5/5 5/5 ****

Phenomenon is running over the Queen's Birthday Long Weekend (June 8th-11th), and has a limited selection of PFS scenarios available (according to the website, the 'First Steps' series on Saturday, a selection of low-level games on Sunday, and 'Blood Under Absalom' on the Monday).

The only other convention (and this one is actually in Sydney!) that I am aware of that is coming up soon is Winterfest, which is not scheduled until August 12th-13th, and which should be offering a selection of PFS modules.

Shadow Lodge

Oh hey. Just found out that there are Pathfinder sessions at the Blacktown Game day.

What's that like?

Sovereign Court 5/5 5/5 ****

The BNPS games day is run by Chris Gammage, and is a mix of LFR and PFS.

It is not affiliated with Shadow Lodge (in fact, it is an independently run Games Day that predates Shadow Lodge by almost a decade, originally running LG), but don't let that deter you from visiting, if you so wish :-)

As far as I know Phenomenon is also running games on demand in some slots so there should be more games available depending on what people want to \ can play.

I don't think it's been confirmed yet, but chances are that it'll be a Beginner Box Bash. I'd imagine First Steps or something cool like We Be Goblins could be featured fairly easily too.

Looks like there are 6 of the new players coming along to this, so I have 4 folios left over. I will drop them off to the store over the coming weekend. Unless you wish me to do something different??

I emailed them a few weeks ago. No response. Looking at the requirements, you need to pay quite a lot to have an "exhibitor" presence so that's not an option for us. If we're going to run games there, then, it looks like our only option would be to run games for another exhibitor. However, that would require the exhibitor to arrange and, presumably, pay for extra space to run games. I've emailed Good Games to see what their presence will be like and if they're interested. I'll let you know if anything happens.

Unless anyone knows different (in which case please email me) the reality of Supanova seems to be quite commercially-focused. If Paizo had a business presence in Australia, it would be appropriate for them to pay for exhibitor space and run games. I presume that Hasbro will be doing that and running Magic and 4e. But we just don't have any budget to go it alone.

Aww, that's a shame. Supanova is pretty fun. Last time I went Magic had a presence, not sure about 4E.

Thanks Luke.

There is a Pathfinder Event listing (or should be ... check ... yes it is) for the Blacktown Games Days, which are on every second Saturday of most months (unless we clash with a sydney convention), but I don't have time to keep it updated with games for each month (blame work - I certianly do). The best place to check for modules is http://www.warhorn.net/blacktown/ in the first week of each month (or sooner if we can get organised).

Love to see y'all there.

Don't suppose our favourite brewers are up to doing another event?

Beyond the fun, games and their friendliness? Their food was AMAZING.

The next Con in Sydney will be Winterfest in August. It's looking like Blacktown Games Day would like the Shadow Lodge to organise the Pathfinder Society element so hope to have more news on that soon.

Before that, though, there are two more Cons in the region. Canberra's Phenomenon is in June, and Wollongong's inaugural GongCon is in July.

Sovereign Court 5/5 5/5 ****

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am posting here to confirm that the modules to be run at Sydney Shadow Lodge, on Saturday, May 21st will be:

Pathfinder Society Scenario #24: Decline of Glory

A Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for 1st to 7th level characters (Tiers: 1–2, 3–4, and 6–7).

When the son of a famous Pathfinder gains control of his father's holdings in Taldor, the Pathfinder Society decides to build a new lodge there as a base to explore the many ruins of that crumbling empire. Unfortunately, the Taldan Phalanx has its eye on the holdings and an ancient curse has turned many of the residents into the walking dead. Can you survive the tangled web of Taldor's politics and fight off the echoes of the past or will you, too, see your glory decline?

Pathfinder Society Scenario Intro 2: First Steps—Part II: To Delve the Dungeon Deep

A Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for 1st level characters.

You venture for the first time into the massive haunted dungeons beneath an abandoned siege tower in the deadly Cairnlands, where you will experience firsthand the true dangers of being a tomb-delving Pathfinder.

Sign-up on Warhorn :-)

Hey all! Just stepping in as a member of University of Wollongong's gaming club, the Guild, to let you all know some details about Gongcon, which we are indeed holding over the weekend of 21st to 22nd of July. We have a large building on campus, the McKinnon Building, confirmed as our venue. There will be boardgames and tabletop wargames, plus collectable card games, hopefully including a Magic the Gathering tourney with prize money, organized by the guys at Good Games Wollongong. There will also be movie marathons run by the Harry Potter Society (who will also be running Wizard Chess and Quidditch on the lawn outside McKinnon) and the Manga/Anime Society, and Rotoract will be holding sausage sizzles etc right outside the doors, with other food amenities hopefully open nearby on campus. At this point, apart from the Pathfinder games run by the Shadowlodge, we have three other confirmed rpgs- Dave Posener will be running Stranglehold- a Pathfinder political intrigue for a group of despicable villains of level 7, Michael Sweet will be running Jenolan Jaunt, a Call of Cthulhu scenario set in Jenolan Caves, and Dan Morgan will be running a desert island survival scenario using, I believe, Basic Roleplaying, which I have played through using another system and is a blast, as all Dan's adventures are. We are still accepting submissions from GMs (if any of you are interested in running something, contact me at thedmdave@aol.com for a volunteer form) until the end of May. I'm hoping for two or three other rpgs (I wish I could run an oldschool d&d game myself, but I will be busy co-ordinating the others). From what I gather, there should be loads of Pathfinder fun via the Shadowlodge- check with Al Rigg for details. Entry for the whole weekend will be $10, though there may be another small charge for things like the Magic tourney and so on. We will be taking registrations from the start of June via our website: http://www.guildgaming-uow.org/ We will be opening a facebook event for it over the next week- you can find us for now on Facebook if you look up UoW-Guild-Gaming-Society.

Liberty's Edge

Thank you "The 8th Dwarf" I just put a posting up about the next gathering of Sydney Siders on the link you mentioned below. Hopefully the Pathfinder peoples will be there to bolster the numbers. The gathering will be the weekend before Canberra Con. ie. Geek Together Gathering will be on the 2nd of June. Hope you can make it.

So we're having Dawn of the Scarlet Sun on Free RPG day. Is that gonna be an PFS Organised Play sanctioned play or just a test? Because it is due to be released on 18th.

Shadow Lodge

Also, about Poisons.

Apparently, I'm not able to create them (Not an alchemist) so I've been meaning to purchase some instead. I found some interesting poisons in Rival Guide (which I have a physical copy of) which I like. They're legal for play but I don't know how to go about purchasing them.

Do I, like, have to defeat the Poison Lodge party (who manufactures and uses the poisons) to gain access?

Sovereign Court 5/5 5/5 ****

Hi Jed,

Unfortunately, as far as I am aware, this has never been clarified :-/

As per the FAQ:

How do poisons work in Pathfinder Society Organized Play?

Any character with the Poison Use class ability can purchase and use poisons. For now, they are the only classes that have a list of “always available poisons” (those noted below)—no other class may purchase poisons unless they appear on a chronicle sheet. Alchemists, ninja, and poisoner rogues may only purchase the following poisons from the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook:

Giant wasp poison
Large scorpion venom
Medium spider venom
Shadow essence
Small centipede poison

Paladins, per their code of conduct, may not use poisons, but they don’t necessarily view the use of poisons as an evil to be opposed—it’s simply something their code prohibits them from doing themselves.

Alchemists and rogues with the poisoner archetype and the Master Poisoner ability can use Craft (alchemy) to produce poisons (see "How can alchemists craft in Pathfinder Society Organized Play?").

Aw I wanted Drow Poison

Despite an order being submitted a few weeks before Free RPG Day announced the event as being sold out over two months in advance, no Free RPG Day kits have been shipped to Australia. It seems that the Free RPG Day people have been a little overwhelmed by demand this year.

I'm discussing the situation with the Decemvirate and will advise our plans in relation to Dawn of the Scarlet Sun in the next few days.
