On a side note, is it the sort of thing that one could drop into once every blue moon?

I'd love to come have a sticky beak, I just can't commit to any ongoing activity due to a range of other stuff making demands on my time :p

2/5 *

Sure, if you just want to drop in periodically that's fine with us.

2/5 *

Once again, another game is set for March 6th (first Saturday of the month). Games on offer are #6 Black Waters and #5 Mists of Mwangi.
(on a side note, I'm printing out the mod this time, no more mistakes like last game)

2/5 *

The next game is set to run on Saturday the 3rd of April.

Games on offer are #7: Among the Living, and #8: Slave Pits of Absalom.

On a side note, I realise there have been concerns regarding play space/ distractions at the shop. We've told Michael (the shop owner) and he says he's making arrangements for the future. Failing that, I will consider changing the venue.

2/5 *

Next game on Saturday 1st of May. Pathfinder Society #9: Eye of the Crocodile King and #10: Blood at Dralkard Manor.

Sorry, just realised Blood at Dralkard Manor is retired. Replaced with #12 instead.

2/5 *

Next game is on Saturday June 5th.
On offer: Pathfinder Society Scenario #13: The Prince of Augustana and #14: The Many Fortunes of Grandmaster Torch.
Usual deal, $5 entry, 10.30am - 6pm.

I've noticed that we're getting a lot more players these days, which is great. However, we now are on the lookout for another DM to help us out.

I enjoyed these modules last year and have both files printed out. Let me know if you want me to DM and I'll photocopy the faction briefings and chronicles sheets. If I recall, there were also references to Monster Manual stat blocks that need copying too.

That would certainly help us out a lot, we only have 2 DM's at the moment (including myself). Would you mind running The Prince of Augustana for us?

No worries, I'll begin prepping. Should I expect both low and high tier groups?

More low level. I think some players have reached 4th level now. Also, I'm converting the encounters from 3.5 to Pathfinder, feel free to do the same.

Thanks for the effort last game PR. Shame we didn't have enough players. Typical.

Oh well, I was hoping to earn some XP and prestige for my Inquisitor of Cayden Cailean, Edward Ciderhands Esq.

Still, we all had fun and the maps I'd prepared were put to good use. However, I can't find the red d20 I used to represent Flaming Sphere, could you check if you have it?

I do have a red one I don't recognise, guess it's not a proper games day until we start accidentally trading dice and figurines. I'll get it back to you next time.

Next Pathfinder Society game is on Saturday July 3rd.
Games on offer: #11 The Third Riddle and #17 Perils of the Pirate Pact.

Grrr, postmonster ate my original post. Let's try again:

That quote of my post is rather old now (I posted it Jan 2009). At the time I made a major effort to organise a Society game day at Penrith in Soldier. It was a flop due to lack of interest so I decided to leave it for a few months. At the end of 2009 I got word that Andy, a friend of mine, was organising a society game in Blacktown and that he had already gathered enough interest to need another DM. So I offered him a helping hand and the game has since proved fairly popular (although numbers tend to vary from month to month). As such, I never actually started up a Society game at Penrith.

Rowan is right though. In my experience few gamers are willing to DM. Go figure.

yeh i have actually been seeking society games because i have been DM for five years now only getting to play once as a character and it lasted like four games before the party got bored of the adventure due to a new DM so no fault of his just new players not being able to mould the adventure for their own enjoyment... (drone players/ war gamers) grrrrr.

maybe after some games of society i will help out with running some games just need a break from it for a while :)

is the game on for this saturday because my cousin and i are keen to play maybe a third joining us :)

It should. I have locked 'Venture-Captain Proclamations' Forum so that only admins can post but you should be able to post in the other ones.

Yes, next game is July 3rd. That's this Saturday coming. A permanent DM isn't needed at the moment, we have 3 so far I believe (plus 1 temporary one) but it all depends how much more popular we'll get.

As far as I can tell, the forum is working fine. Let me know if something's not working.

2/5 *

Next game is Saturday 7th August.
Games on offer are:
#19 Skeleton Moon
#23 Tides of Morning

We have 3 permanent DM's: Myself, Andy and Stuart, but we may need one extra DM per game. Probably we could alternate between players who like a break or wish to test their DMing skills.

Hi Neil,

I've had my eye on this thread for a while. Great to see Pathfinder groups running in other States. I was wondering whether you or your GMs/players are planning on attending GenConOz in September, or if you or your GMs have considered volunteering to run some sessions at GenConOz?

Planning is well under way, with 11 GMs scheduled to run more than 50 sessions over four days. We're awaiting approval from GenConOz organisers of sessions we've already submitted, but I'm hoping there's still opportunity to run extra tables if other GMs are willing.

Four of our GMs are from Sydney, and say they know of 11 Sydney Pathfinders (including themselves) planning to attend GenConOz, maybe you're already counted among them?

We're hoping to arrange a social meetup between GMs the day before the event, and a Pathfinder players social meetup on the Sunday evening after the last session, to help community building.

If you'd like to get in touch, my contact details are on the GenConOz event page.

Oh, and thanks for the words of encouragement on the Regional Coordinator thread :-)

Cheers,
DarkWhite

No, the Blacktown Boys aren't included in the 11. Would be good to see them there, though.

On a related note, and as this is the "Sydney Pathfinder Society" thread, I should announce that the four GMs mentioned above will be running Tin Soldier Pathfinder Society sessions each Saturday between now and GenConOz at Tin Soldier, 40 York Street, Sydney.

Sessions are expected to run from 09:30 with a target to finish by 14:00, which includes half an hour for character updates.

If you're interested, please contact me (details should be on the event page) for information on the schedule and to reserve your place.

Cheers,
Al

We hadn't planned anything in regards to GenCon. I certainly HOPE I can make it but I'm at uni and can't be sure I will be able to fit it into the schedule (I'm apprehensive about doing an accelerated Masters degree).

I am interested in the games on Saturday at Penrith. Although I'll be out of town this weekend so I'll have to get back to you on that one.

Feel free to post the ad on the messageboard. Sydney Pathfinder

I've been scouting out for a pathfinder game for a while, I'd love to get in on this once my HSC clears up. How does the organised play cope with latecomers?

2/5 *

Welcome.
I wouldn't worry about being low level too much, we've had some new players in the July game so you shouldn't be too far behind them.

Furthermore, most DMs try to be lenient with level 1 characters. Once you hit level 2 though, all bets are off. lol >:)

Hope to see you there!

Hi Twigs, welcome onboard.

I think organised play works remarkably well with newcomers, in that the scenarios are designed so that they're each their own little self-contained adventure, you could be playing with different players at each session and scenarios can be played in any order so continuity isn't an issue, and the campaign is still relatively young (Season 2 marks the beginning of it's 3rd year), so you won't feel like you're disadvantaged by missing years of plot development.

The only things you may feel, are learning about the various factions, recognising various cities/locations etc, but this is true for any of us who started, and you'll pick it up quickly enough during play (a little quicker if you do some reading), and gamers are typically keen to share their knowledge of such things.

Another thing you may experience as a newcomer starting out at 1st level, is that others who have been playing for a while, will be higher level than you. [Edit: ninja'ed by Neil - character level shouldn't be a problem] This is something we've been experiencing even in our home games here in Melbourne, wanting to invite new players to the game, but our characters are too high to play at the same table. What we've done is to create secondary, and even tertiary characters, so we always have a low-level character we can use to help support new players entering the system. It means our primary characters don't level quite as fast, but it means we get to encourage new players into the community, and ultimately that benefits everyone.

Also, while a few Season 0 scenarios have been retired, most are still available for play, and some are still quite popular. As newcomers like yourself arrive on the scene, GMs who are already familiar with these scenarios are quite likely to run them again, because it's easier than purchasing, reading, preparing a new scenario. So it's not like you really missed them yet at all.

We'll also be running Pathfinder Society scenarios in Brisbane over the Thursday 23rd - Sunday 26th September (during school break). If you could make the trip, 10 scenarios played over four days would be an awesome way to throw yourself into the campaign, and achieve 4th level by the end. Players will be traveling from all over Australia, and I know of 11 Sydney players already who will be coming to the event, so it's another opportunity to meet and make contacts with other gamers in your area. We'll be making an announcement regarding venue and other details in the next few days.

Cheers,
DarkWhite

I'm one of the 11, Twigs, and also the organiser of the Society games at Tin Soldier. Whenever you're able to drop by, you'll be most welcome. Just drop me an email. The event page is here.

Hi Twigs! Newcomers are always welcome to the Pathfinder Society.

And if you haven't already, register for a Pathfinder Society number and bring it with you to the game, it'll make your GM's and Event Organiser's job easier!

Thanks for all the input, everybody. I'll gauge the interest with my mates, but may have to wait until the HSC is out of the way... Looking forward to meeting some players in the area, all the same.

Greetings again,

August game went well, but we were missing a few players (in fact we only had a single table), but it was still a good day. Next game is Saturday, 4th September.

High Level Table:
DM: Andy
#27: Our Lady in Silver (Tiers 5-6, 8-9)
#29: The Devil We Know—Part I: Shipyard Rats.

Low Level Table (if there is one):
DM: Neil (me)
#3: Murder on the Silken Caravan
#29: The Devil We Know—Part I: Shipyard Rats.

Due to popular request, we are starting the Season 1 modules in September.

Please note, I wish continue running as many Season 0 modules as possible since their retirement is approaching fast. Even so, I will focus on the ones which give a potential 2 Faction Points (both #3 and #27 for example give 2 Faction Points).

One last note, due to Fathers Day being on that same weekend, I'll need to leave early (5pm or thereabouts).

Hey all,
September game didn't go quite as expected. In fact we didn't even get to the second session, since the low-level table didn't have the numbers and the high level table ran overtime for the 1st session. Thus, we didn't get around to playing #29: The Devil We Know—Part I: Shipyard Rats. We'll postpone it until 2nd October.

I've had a look at #28, Lyrics of Extinction and it's a Tier 7-8 and 10-11. Most of the high level table are only level 6 (or level 5) at the moment.

But for October, I can't see why we couldn't run #31, Sniper in the Deep for the morning session and #29: The Devil We Know—Part I: Shipyard Rats for the afternoon session.

Actually, I might scratch #31, Sniper in the Deep after all. Reason being that Sydcon is already running it, plus a variety of Pathfinder Society scenarios. See http://www.sydcon.info/ for details. Hopefully, I'll be there.

After discussing it with Andy (Co-DM) we've decided to run #29 The Devil we Know (Part I) and #30 The Devil We Know (Part II). Both are Tier 1-7.

This is applicable to both tables, assuming we have 2 tables of course.

Game is on Saturday 2nd October, 10:30 start. Blacktown Unlimited Hobbies, etc etc. $5 is usual entrance fee.

I will note dryly that over the course of the entire convention weekend, according to the website, I am the only person to sign-up for Sniper in the Deep; if it does not run at the Con, will you consider running it at the store for the November Games Day?

Also, Neil, I would join you for the Monday slots, but as the character I want to play is 1st level, I think I will join the table on Saturday for survival purposes ;-)

You bet. That would work nicely. I would join you for Sniper in the Deep but... My girlfriend would likely inflict great suffering upon me if I committed myself to any more gaming this weekend. :)

Did Sydcon run 'Sniper in the Deep'? I was planning on running it for November games day.

Game for Saturday 6th November at usual time usual place.

I'll have a number of scenarios on offer in addition to the usual 2 per table.

High Level:
#41 The Devil We Know Part III Crypt of Fools

Low Level:
#06 Black Water*
#41 The Devil We Know Part III Crypt of Fools

Other Scenarios on offer:
#12 Stay of Execution*
#33 Assault on the Kingdom of the Impossible
#23 Tides of Morning

* Note that both #06 Black Water and #12 Stay of Execution are expiring in mid-November.

Hmmm.... Your earlier post about Sniper must have been 'buried' fairly quickly; I do not remember seeing the thread pop-up on the first page!

#41 The Devil We Know Part III: Crypt of Fools.
#31 Sniper in the Deep.

And I'd have been up for #41 The Devil We Know Part III Crypt of Fools and #33 Assault on the Kingdom of the Impossible but, alas, all-day session of my Rise of the Runelords campaign booked in for that date.
Maybe next month, depending on what's on offer.
