I guess we will be spending the time that we have quickly scouting the town for fortifications (i.e. areas that the warforged cant just charge up to us at), good places to make stands, ready made pits, fall back points etc. we could even try and make a few makeshift traps even if it only trips guys for a little bit that would be a good thing.
Drexel Morrow |
Well depending on how dilapidated the town is I was thinking of rigging a building to fall over if at all possible, maybe collapsing a few before hand to prevent the large creature from just charging in and destroying us. create choke points where we can control how many opponents we are facing at once etc. I didn't think we could dig pits and stuff like that as actual traps.

Drexel:
And then you think better of it, as you have no craft:(trapmaking) skill or knowledge:engineering. You realize you wouldn't know where to begin with making a building fall over and would likely kill yourself in the process. Now, if someone else int eh group has those skills, and a bit o time.

Haruuc laughs. "I think that any kind of transport would have been comandeered long ago my little friend, but you're quite welcome to go and have alook while we prepae for the battle. Your spells will be needed for the fight, but until then you may go."

I would recommend that the person with the best "perception" stand watch at the top of the N wall to watch for warforged. split the group into 2 (well 3, one person on the wall, 2 ppl searching one way and 2 ppl searching the other), quickly scout the town and meet up back at the wall to share findings. Try to flee any monstrous vermin that are run into.
I suggest we quickly scout the town, chances are that the warforged will know this town better then we do so no matter what they will be better prepared. We should find a small area to fight so that no more then two of them will be able to confront us at once and where the large construct will not have immediate access to us. Preferably we will want to be in the area with the stronger buildings so that we don't get one pushed over on to us, how ever we could lead them on a merry chase throughout the town and try and knock a few buildings onto them reducing their numbers if at all possible. If we can get anyone up on higher ground for where we will have our last stand to rain death onto our enemies so much the better. we should also have a way to escape in case things go badly for us, we do not want to be trapped in a dead end fighting for our lives. If it doesn't look like an escape route so much the better (i.e. small-ish crack in the wall or somthing that we can squeeze through)

"We should take positions on top of buildings so that we can fire on them at will. Perhaps we shoulc be on the outer wall and begin firing when they come within range. When they get within a hundred feet of the gate then we should move into an interrior fortification."

Haruuc responds to Brignat's suggestion.
"The biggest problem I can see about hiding in or on any kind of structure is that huge monstrosity they have with them. What if it can just smash through buildings? With us either inside them or on the roof it could make it potentially deadly for us. I am not saying I have a better suggestion at this point, but it is food for thought."
He thinks about it for a second.
"Your idea about meeting them on the wall with ranged fore and then retreating to a more defensible position is sound though and has much merit."

The front gates are mostly intact, there are massive holes in the walls though, so there's no guarantee they'd enter through the gate...
As I asked before, is anyone watching the mists to watch for the forged?
DM Dhakann |
Brignat climbs one of the gate towers, as he sees evidence of monstrous spiders within...he scans the mist from the gatehouse roof.
What are the rest of you doing while Brignat is on the tower?>
Drexel Morrow |
splitting into two groups to quickly scout the town. How big is the town exactly? like how long would I estimate that it would take to scout the whole thing, because if it would take longer then an hr we should only scout about half. so that we still have time to try and set up traps n stuff before the warforged show up.
Brignat |
Brignat crouches down and waves his hands to signal the party. He holds up two fingers. Points one hand away from the city then points one hand down at the ground. Shaking his fist, he points away from the city. Once he is sure that his companions see him, he readies his bow and peaks over the ledge again.
Haruuc Dhakaan |
Drexel can lead one search party and Haruuc the other. Given current attitudes, I would probably say Drexel & Ur-Kaim in one and Haruuc & Hruskin in the other, with Brignat up on the wall as he is.
Haruuc walks over to Hruskin and motions for him to follow, before starting off to scout. "You two head that way and we'll go this," he points. "Come on little one."
I can't seem to access IC, so let's hope my dice are better to me than it was... Perception Check (1d20+1) 1 + 1 = 2
*cries* Even my own dice hate me!!! :(

As it's daylight still the dead city is pretty dead, as you scout the place you see things hiding in the ruins of buildings, you note no magic items, though there is a slight background energy...
There are plenty of dilapidated buildings, but none that would be easy to topple given the timeframe. There are lots of places to rig ambushes, and if you have craft (trap) I might let you set a trap for wherever the encounter takes place, as you attempt to lure the warforged into the area.
After about an hour of scouting, you see Brignat on the tower waving to get your attention.
Brignat:

Haruuc hears Brignat's signal and hurries back for information. He takes in the disposition of the enemy and points up at Brignat to stay there. He hurries up to where Brignat is keeping watch and quickly converses with him about the best form of ambush, noting which of the three parties looks the strongest.
Drexel Morrow |
I too travel up to Brignet to converse. "since they have already divided themselves let us go destroy them. the closest group first, working over to the furthest. we can ambush them just after they enter the city. Then we can try to avoid the party on the road while we make our way to city." I am assuming that the closest group is going to enter the city before the furthest
Drexel Morrow |
The group entering the south breech and the group entering the Eastern gate, will entering around the same time, the group entering the Western gate will enter a couple minutes later.
The gates are already "fortified" and we can have people on the wall firing down, I suggest we start there.

The gates most certainly are not fortified, this town has been looted and destroyed...
