Me too. Maybe that voice Priapus heard screaming in the forest was really Sharoth? We'd better go check it out!

Male Silver Dragon

Sorry. Bad week. I will resume this ASAP.

Male Dungeon Master and Lord of all Creation

Aldan, Merian, Idaih, and Kael,

~Lady Chauntessa looks at all of you after you have sat down.~ I am sorry for all the secrecy, but I belive that there is an agent for these slavers working in the town. Unfortunatly, I am unable to determine who that person is. Quintus was able to contact Lyssa. She said that she was ok, but that she had heard that she was going to be traded to some orcs.

Dark Archive

Brother Seamus,

~Adian and you head to the Inn. Tess greets the both of you~ Lady Chauntessa is taling to your friends. Shall I go tell them that you are back?

Dark Archive

Male Dungeon Master and Lord of all Creation

Valtiro and Priapus,

~as you near where the noise is, you notice that two big wolves are stalking a farmer and his wife. The farmer has a pitchfork and is trying to keep them away from him and his wife. The wolves aprear to eb gaunt and hungry.~

Male Silver Dragon

I am off to bed. I will post again tomorrow morning and then later on in the day. Sorry about being absent. I will do better from now on.

Aldan, Merian, Idaih, and Kael,

~you all hear a knock and then Tess's voice saying~ Brothere Seamus is here. Is it ok if he joins you all?

"Yes. Please. Let him in."

female human oracle of battle 4

"We cannot wait, if she's going to be traded soon," Merian says urgently. "Do we know where she is yet?"

Kael moves over to make room for Brother Seamus to sit. He breaks off some bread and cheese and offers it to his friend. (Not saying anything because he is still chewing his latest bite of sausage.)

Merian Benvalla wrote:

"We have an idea. We did explore the area here she was taken, and found that the lass had been most industrious, leaving a quiet trail of scraps behind her as she might. Priapus and that other fellow --Valtiro?-- chose to stay the night on the villains' trail.

"Many of ye knowest Brother Arien here. He has himself been bound prisoner of these men, taken with his family.

Dark Archive

Male Dungeon Master and Lord of all Creation

Merian,

~Quintus looks sad~ No. Lyssa did not know where she was. However, my spell seemed to indicate that she was in the vicinity of Castle Whiterock. ~he pets the cat~ However, she did insist that I feed this scrounge! ~wry smile~

~Quintus looks at Arian~ I am sorry that I doubted you.

Aldan, Merian, Idaih, Kael, and Brother Seamus,

~Quintus pulls out a piece of paper~ I wrote down her response to my sending.

"Feed Grrrmandius, Am Alive and underground, traded to orcs soon, 24ish slavers, 30ish orcs, 6 captives minimum, will pass on new info, Feed Grrrmandius NOW!!!"

Male Underfolk Spell Thief 1

I recall that her familiar's name is Avros. "And who is Grrrmandius?"

female human oracle of battle 4

"Nearly 60 foes?" Merian blinks. "I pray that we may find some means of confronting them in smaller groups than that... It would be best if we could make contact with our scouts and get their report, or finish the reconnaissance ourselves if need be."

"It may not be possible to rescue her afore the orcs arrive and buy her. It may be preferable to wait for the orcs to leave with her.

"Good lady, were you able to find out anything about Ankiel?"

I grin haplessly at Priapus' attempt to distract the animals.

"Well, it was an inspired strategy."

Initiative = 5

I sprint over to block the wolves' attack on the farmers and throw a kick at the nearest beast's legs (if it's within range of a move/attack or charge), coming to a halt between the animals and their prey.

Aldan, Merian, Idaih, Kael, and Brother Seamus,

~Lady Chauntess does not look worried~ Slavers tend to be disorganized at best. Also, you might get lucky and some of them might be out. As for the orcs, I have no idea. Lyssa is a smart girl. She knows that help is coming and will behave herself.

~She then looks at Brother Seamus~ I was unable to find anything about Ankiel. But I am not a diviner. I will keep looking for more information.

~Quintus looks at you too~ Grrrmandius was my son's familar. That cat is over at his house. ~slight smile~ Lyssa usually fed him.

Sorry about the delay. I am on call this weekend and it is busy. I will post when I can. Unfortunatly, I am expecting to put in at least 8 hours in the office tomorrow wiring some stuff. Oh joy! ~shrugs~ Luckly, I will enjoy the fruits of this weekend on my next paycheck.

Male Dungeon Master and Lord of all Creation

Valtiro and Pirapus,

Roll a sense motive check. Beat a 12.

Spoiler:
You notice that the wolves spirit is not really in the fight. They want food and are hungry. Perhaps a good intimidate roll might make them think twice about this fight.

that soon I will be--
My body a-twisting from

For daring to think that a man
could live free...
but though I may die,
'tis a harper I'll be.

The strings of my harp
will never be stilled
while the green of the shamrock

for the music of Varisia

and the soul of a harper

Brother Seamus,

~Arien looks troubled~ I do not remember much, my friend. All I remember was the compound. They knocked me out after they cautured me. When I woke up I was in a cell. We were put to work on cleaning up the area. It appeared to be an old fortress of some kind. Sometimes there would be some orcs that would come into the compund. However, they did not stay for long. Most of the slavers tended to be lazy since they had other people do the work. Often some of them would be gone doing what slavers do. We all were told to behave or we would be sent "Down Below!"

Priapus and Valtiro,

~both of the wolves start to back up, the female snarling at the male and the male growling at the both of you~

Male Human (Varisian) Monk 1

Male Underfolk Spell Thief 1

I describe the elaborate tattoo to the rest of the party and to Quintus and Lady Chauntessa. Does anyone find it familiar?

Dark Archive

Male Dungeon Master and Lord of all Creation

Brother Seamus,

~Lady Chauntessa thinks for a minute and then replies~ I think I have hear about it. They call themselves the Slavers of the Iron Mantacle. They have been crushed before, only to rise again, since not all of their members were brought to justice.

~Arien nods~ She is right. That is what I remember some of them saying.

"Manticle" Or "manacle"?

"I find that more than passing strange! A name, a vow of continuity, and a large and painious tattoo! Certes, this seemest more like a cabal of deranged cultists, than a mere venture for the traffic of human lives!

"By my troth, our goals grow clearer. Simple making the slave trade unprofitable will avail us naught. These folk sound to be devoted.

"What next?

"We know where to of their bodies are buried, and their heads bore no signs of disfigurement. If we could pool our moneys" I look around the room, particularly at Lady Chauntessa, "we might obtain a scroll for speaking with the newly dead, and obtain more intelligence from them, such as names of the leaders, the schedule of daily routine, or long-term goals."

I nod to Merian. "We must find our comrades in the woods. And, I should think, we should bring them their breakfasts. Perhaps they have found out something more.

"And then, it seems," with a gesture acknowledging Idiah, "we must find this underground compound."

With a mouth full of bread cheese and sausage Kael nods, "I agr*uff we*ff Br*th*r Ze*mus."
Looks to his sleeve and notices only 2 more bites of sausage is left.

~Lady Chauntessa nods her head~ I would. However, it may take me a day or two to get the scroll. Do you think that we have that much time?

"Even if he does," Merian cuts in, "I do not. Nor, for that matter, do I much care for interrogating the dead, no matter the usefulness of their information. Your counsel is wise, master Seamus, but suits me ill nonetheless. I would prefer to get to the front lines of the action and do what needs to be done as soon as possible. There are lives at stake - six, at least, if master Quintus' spell speaks true. We dare not hesitate."

"I agree." (munch munch) "If the Lady would be so kind as to get a scroll for us we could use it when we come back. Any information would be useful. We should get back to our friends in the woods so they are not kept waiting."
"Lady, would you be able to let us raid your larder for this little adventure?"

Male Underfolk Spell Thief 1

Shisumo, nice job. I really have an idea about how Merian thinks.

"Days, Lady Chauntessa, perhaps not, but if the time be rather hours, aye. No orc makest purchase of slaves in the daylight.

"Merian, thou hast the esteem of wise, and so I hold thee. These are not mere kidnappers and traders of slaves and coins. This is a cult. It was beaten back once before, and then renewed itself.

"Of course we want to rescue Lyssa, and while she's this side of the grave, although by my trowth, I think her not in danger of her life. She will, awaiting succor, aver any grim-odds escape attempts. The Iron Manacle dost not wish her dead, and even the orcs be unlikely to eat her.

"But a simple, bloody raid would be a disaster: not only wouldst such a strike panic the guards and indeed put the prisoners' lives at risk, mayhap as hostages, but it may scatter the Iron Manacle.

"This needs must go quietly and smoothly. All the captives must be loosed. The orcs, taught their lesson. And amongst the Iron Manacle there must be not a single survivor.

"They suspect not our coming. We have some small window of time to reconnoiter and find our best tactics.

"See to the lessons of your patroness. Is Iomedae often surprised or taken at disadvantage, or dost she visit those indignites upon her foes?"

And Seamus is used to a world where mis-steps are fatal. But he's also used to being a member of a tightly-knit community. If everyone in the party decides to tromp right off to the castle, he'll follow along and do his best.

female human oracle of battle 4

Merian's eyes weigh the spellthief for a moment. "She is neither, for the light of Her coming burns away all shadows," she replies after a pause. "You're right about our objectives, master Seamus; on that we can agree, as on the need for information before we attack. But that information is out there, not here; moreover, an assault on the slavers in the day would keep the orcs from interfering with the battle."

She pauses again, looking down slightly. "We also agree on the need for an error-free assault. I will not permit my haste to endanger the prisoners... but at the same time, I will not waste time that would be better spent moving toward our goal." She looks up again, her level gaze meeting Seamus' with neither challenge nor fear.

Fundamental difference in viewpoints here: Merian is a woman of action, but understands the need for caution, where Seamus is a man of caution, getting pushed by circumstance toward action. Good stuff!

Incidentally, does anyone else have access to speak with dead on their spell list? Because I'm fairly certain Merian will refuse to cast it.
