I think over my newly-arrived coffee.
"Well. The night mission sounds like an excellent idea. I am no stealth specialist, but without the clank of armor or weapon I am able to hold my own somewhat. I would not be averse to joining you if you feel you need a fourth member." I think again. "And if I can get some more of this coffee."

Valtiro,
~Tess brings you some more coffee~
DM Sharoth |
Brother Seamus, Kael, Priapus, and all others going,
~Lady Chauntessa looks at you all~ I would suggest going to the area where Davros was killed. That is the most recent activity of these people, that we know of. I will do some investigation into this Ankiel person. Since the area is about 2 hours away, just remember that when you get back, you will have only a few hours of sleep. So do not wear yourself out.
~Lyssa's cat familar jumps up into Priapus' arms~
Brother Seamus |
Seamus assumes he's made it clear that the scouting party's not bringing light sources. If Valtiro is volunteering to come along, Seamus is assuming he can keep up. Maybe he can see in the dark, or fight blind.
By the way, Wandering Bard, i snuck a peek at your character's stats. How does Valtiro cast spells?
We head out to where Davros was killed, and investigate the area, following the lead of the cat.
Looking for Clues Roll
Brother Seamus has a poor Spot roll (just a d20, no modifiers) but a pretty good Search roll of 1d20 + 8.
If possible, (a)I'd like to take enough time to Take 20 on our rolls, and (b) if we're using Spot, I'd like to assist Kael.
If we can't Take 20, then Brother Seamus' rolls are:
Spot Rolls = 1d20 + 0 = 16, 7, 17.
Search Rolls = 1d20 + 8 = 28, 26, 9.
DM Sharoth |
Brother Seamus, Kael, Priapus, and Valtiro,
One search roll is needed to search the area.
search roll of 15
search roll of 20
search roll of 25
DM Sharoth |
If you do what I think you will with your search check of 25...
Brother Seamus |
Sharoth, opening that page lit up my Virus protection like a Christmas tree. It was trying to access root information.
(The following isn't in a spoiler, because I assume we all notice Brother Seamus disinterring two dead human bodies.)
Sharoth, we searched the body of the assailant we killed in town. Did we think to check him for tattoos?
Are the bodies human? All bald? Significant in any other fashion?
We continue in the direction the spell book would indicate. I'm looking for other items she might have dropped. And again, following the cat's lead. It might smell something familiar we would otherwise miss.
DM Sharoth |
Brother Seamus and crew,
Only one of them is bald, but they both have the same tattoo on their back. They are dressed ok, and wearing leather armor. The other thugs back in town did NOT have a tattoo on them. The cat sniffs the ground and looks up at you. "Meow" She then walks towards the east, in the general direction of Castle Whiterock. After a short while (10-15 minutes), the cat stops and looks around, giving a "meow?"
Sharoth |
Chris, check this site out and tell me if it makes your Virus scan go bonkers. Here it is!
Brother Seamus |
Can we tell how they died?
After a short while (10-15 minutes), the cat stops and looks around, giving a "meow?"[/ooc]
Take time to search here carefully. Then continue eastward towards the castle, taking our time to be quiet and on-the-lookout, for slavers lying in wait or for other objects Lyssa might have dropped.
How's our monk doing?
Idiah |
Back at the inn, Idiah sulks in her room, grumbling.
"-stupid armor, making me all loud and clanky so they won't take me along, well who needs scouts anyway? gonna just go bash those slavers in the head so who needs to be all la de da scoutin' around like ooh 'I'm a fancy-pants chameleon-man'...etc."
She actually does understand the need for reconissance, but her impulsive nature chafes at having to sit still when there is danger to confront.

~LAUGHTER in RT~
DM Sharoth |
Could we tell how the corpses died?
Barring any other information, we continue on to the east.
The two thugs were killed by magic. obviously, Davros put up at least some sort of a fight.
Idiah, Merian. Have you two gone to sleep by now? ~innocent whistling~ Just wondering.
Brother Seamus |
"Killed by magic," how? Fire, lightning? Set upon by summonned animals? I ask because I am unsure whether we've recovered Davros' spell book, so those dwoemers may be used against us.
We continue following the trail to the east, finding things as we may, until something significant happens.
Sharoth, I'm at a loss. I'm just repeating myself. I don't know what else to say, but this information doesn't seem to be what you're looking for, in order to get us to where the path leads.
Priapus |
~whispers while they walk
"So Valtiro you are a monk? What order are you from? is it one from this area?"
Looks over to Kael
"The Bodies in town. Did they have any distinguishing features or marks that you were aware of? Was it in any particular part of town that they accosted you?"
unless we are within a mile or so of the location that we suspect Priapus' only attempt to be quite is to not talk much and not to sing at all.
Kael |
Search check; Spot check (1d20 2=7, 1d20 6=19)
Not sure if they are needed at this point...
Sharoth, did we notice any back tattoos or other marking from the thugs in town?
Sharoth:
[ooc]Not sure if they are needed at this point...[/occ]
Kael follows Brother Seamus' lead until need to go 'scout' ahead.
DM Sharoth |
Idiah,

Merian,
DM Sharoth |
Aldan,
The first dream is of a female human wearing a symbol of Iomedae. This woman is taken by a stange creature and tied to an altar. You dream is cut short as you see the knife pierce the woman's chest and a blinding light emanates from where the woman was.
The second dream is of a being of good waging a battle from the shadows against beings of evil. There are several other being of good with her, but in battle after battle, some fall each time. Sometimes their bodies are reanimated and their cause perverted to serve evil. As you see another battle, you wake up in a sweat and with a horrible headache.

~winces~ Sorry! I will do my best to do better.
The path appears to be heading towards Castle Whiterock, but not in a normal way. It appears that the people who fled with Lyssa were trying to hide their tracks. The first thug was killed by lightnight while the second appears to have been killed by some sort of magic projectile. The spell book is a girl's spell book. Obviously belonging to Lyssa.
Idiah |
"zzz...*huh?* Uuugh."
Idiah wakes up from her nightmare, her limbs cold and shaking. Shadows, good beings, powerful enemies taking them down... She's had worse dreams, especially the one where she is back at the Golden Erinyes, about to be punished by Sister Sanguina, but somehow this dream seems different. It's almost as if it were trying to tell her something and not just stirring up memories of a nightmare past.
She hits the pillow a few times to get out her adrenaline, then tries to go back to sleep.
DM Sharoth |
We continue following the trail to the castle, finding things as we may, until something significant happens.
Brother Seamus, Priapus, Valtiro, and Kael,
Other than the usuall night time animals, noting much occurs. I is plain that the trail seems to be heading towards Castle Whiterock. You can tell that it has been over 3 hours since you left the area. Since it is a good half day trip to the Castle, what did you want to do now?

I turn to my fellows. "We have still no sign of the slavers' camp. It mayst be just o'er the next rise, or perchance all the way to the foot of yon castle ruins. At least one of us shouldst return to Cillamar with what news as we have found. It might be possible for a reduced number to move ahead and find their encampment, mayhap to await a sending from Quintus on the morrow, or we might be prudent and all return to our beds tonight.
"What say you?"
Priapus |
~I say with a grin

Brother Seamus |
Brother Seamus is taken aback momentarily by the gnome's non-sequiturs but then grins and turns to the others.
"And what say you? I should like to turn back to Cillamar, myself, as I needs must shun the daystar's harsh light. Will ye press on to find more, or join with me?"

After waking up in a sweat, Aldan takes a deep breath and gathers himself. After a moment or two of searching his memory for the identity of the creatures in his dream, he falls back asleep.
DM Sharoth |
Aldan,
As for the second dream, you realize that the being was an Ghaele and she is fighting various demons and devils. She too is underground. One thing that you notice is that none of the beings were telelporting away.
Kael |
Looks over to Kael
"The Bodies in town. Did they have any distinguishing features or marks that you were aware of? Was it in any particular part of town that they accosted you?"
"They didn't have any tattoos on them. They were thugs and I am not sure where we were in town but I could find the spot again if needed. I would recognize the thugs if we come across them again."
"I say we head back to town and get some rest. We can gather the others and leave after breakfast.
Valtiro Caspisi |
"Well Seamus, you make a strong point. I suggest that we may all return, but perhaps it would be better for you and your friend" *nods to Kael* "-to head back before the coming of light and rouse the others. Presuming that our allies are all readied to set out for our goal today, Priapus and I could stay here to find an appropriate campsite and perhaps scout a little further while we wait for your return. What do you think?"
Brother Seamus |
"As thou wishest. We'll return with the others. Do not get thyself captured."
Unless Kael objects, the two of us will head back to Cillamar. If I'm estimating right, we left town around 8 pm. We found the attack site around 10 pm, and it's now about 1 am. I'm imagining that it'll be faster on the return trip, since we're not trying to find clues or be particularly stealthy. How long will it take us to return to town?
(If possible, I'd like to be in Arien's kitchen, making him a hearty breakfast, when he wakes up.)
Brother Seamus |
Seamus, you don't want to go to the Inn?
"Oh, I imagine I'll be retiring to my room shortly after breakfast with Arien, there to nap 'till noon.
"But if he desireth to come temperant, it would be the easier for him if he had a friend to support his resolve. And, too, I would ask him if the men who slew his wife and child and took him slave had that self-same tattoo 'cross their backs."

It should take about an hour and a half if you push it, 2 hours if you show some caution.
