Yes, only 12 levels away from it, too!

It doesn't prevent you from dying of old age, but it stops you from accruing the penalties of ageing. (bonuses still accrue)

So I could look and feel like a spry 24 year old well into my 90's....

All the more believable that I would find something to mate with before I die...

or you could get to mature before L12 and get that wisdon bonus.

Then have 1 or 2 longevity potions near the end of your life, which would get you there. or maybe you're actually 1/8th elf alreayd and our illustrious DM could figure you will live to max age for a human.

Why do I have to be forced into taking a longevity feat? Or choosing a race I may not want to play?

The lifespan of any of the other party members is no less assured than Faress'...

Not forcing a thing. I said from the beginning that this campaign will span the war. So there will be sections when several years will go by. Don't choose the feats if you don't wish to do so. But, barring combat, the lifespan may become a disadvantage.

Hey, Patrick, I have an idea, I would like you to consider, it might not even end up mattering, but still:

I would like to add in a feat called "Racial Specialization". It would have as a prerequisite "Racial Emulation", and would read as follows:

Wiki homebrew character options

Seems fine, but how about a disadvantage to balance it out. Say, a race that you couldn't shape into because of the extra specialization?

Also, I have the Iron Heroes stuff. So if you wish to choose something from that, it should be fine. Just tell me and let me review it. I will check the characters tomorrow (hopefully).

Keep the comments coming. It's all good.

Well the bonuses still accrue, just not the penalties.

Additionally, I was thinking of Prestiging into 'Ruathar' (from Races of the Wild). My character would have some of an elf's lifespan that way. As much as my character is raised by humans, he has also been raised by elves. It'll make a whole lot more sense when you read his background, but he mimics many elven ways of life, though he was born a human.

What year are we starting in, by the way? I'm trying to organize some kind of fluidity in my backstory. 894;The first year of the war?

The Wardens of the Wood, especially the druids, are very important in the history of the eldeen reaches, but the Eldeen Reaches don't exist proper until 958, proclaiming independance under the guidance and authority of the Wardens and Oalian. I'm trying to find a path.

Well the Eldeen Reaches existed of course, just not as an independent nation, I would think the Wardens of the wood probably existed prior to that...does it have a timeframe for the creation of the wardens?

Shadow Lodge

It's kinda sketchy.

The Orcs were there first (around -30,000), and so then too were the Gatekeepers. They awakened Oalian in -4,100, who did his best to teach the principles of the gatekeepers to what few humans began to settle there (somewhere around -2,500 and -1,800), but it's only throughout the Last War that this Druidic history began to really fracture and split into 12 distinct factions. The liberation of the Eldeen Reaches is one of the main events that helps solidify the Wardens of the Wood as they are now.

Perhaps your character is one of the early wardens? His ideals are part of the fractioning. You could always play an orc gatekeeper heh...

Yeah I haven't touched my Eberron books in the last few months up until this thread started...had forgotten my timeline. Been running my group through Crown of the Kobold King - Pathfinder Beta.

I don't mean to sound like a weirdo who has this sh*t memorized. Literally I'm sitting here with my ECS book on my lap, flipping between pages 120 and 224, trying to piece together a history that we have only fragments of, in order to be present in it!

I kinda figured, heh, I'm sitting at work occasionally looking at my Paizo stuff... with no books heh.

Great job on the Last Baron Adventure so far btw!

(I'm liking the characters so much, I couldn't leave it to flounder! Now...to infiltrate the keep without drawing the attention of the guards or the dogs....)

Spins his wand rifle I think that might be possible...I'll have to leave Ka at the tavent tho, or the stable perhaps...have the stable boys feed him some nice bear steaks.

Hm... I don't mind giving up a race, let me think as to which one though. I'm going to look over and change up my feats again. I plan to take at minimum the racial emulation off of a flaw, and I'll probably take the specialization then too for gnome. Kael's Parents raised him in a gnomish community. They where open about the fact they where changlings, however growing up there Kael more easily picks up on gnomish thought processes and mannerisms.

Mithril, with Kael originating from the gnomish region, I figured I met you on as a passenger on the flying ship thing you where working on at the time... Maybe helped repel some invaders.

Patrick, I think I will "buy" a valanar Magebred horse... I'm figuring it was a swindle on my behalf on some lovestruck elf (lovestruck on a persona I was using at the time). The elf is probably upset about if he/she realises... if he/she doesn't then it could be an on going swindle whichever works better for you. I'm thinking to take the swift breed on that horse and put the big bonus from Magebred into Con.
... And I'm thinking of the Conceited flaw off of that list on the wiki site Patrick, that one ok?

Anyone else have any ideas on how to tie in character backgrounds?

What about a penalty to all other racial disguises? -2 maybe? Since it's harder for you to lose your favored racial traits.

Star Voter 2015

And that right there is a great idea! I love it! As long as Patrick likes it that's what I'll go with.

I also like the idea of grabbing Ruathar levels too, I didn't really want more than 2 levels in archmage anyways, and it would give the longiviety I would like while still keeping my caster levels moving.

The finals on my build are looking like this:

(flaw) Colligiate Wizard
(flaw) Racial Emulation
(1st) Able Learner
(Bonus) Scribe Scroll
(3rd) Widen Spell
(Bonus 5th) Sculpt Spell
(6th) Racial Specialization (gnome)
(9th) Spell Focus (illusion)
(12th) Spell Focus (transmutation)
(15th) ??? longiveity? What does that feat do anyways?
(18th) Chain Spell

With the class levels being thus:

Wizard 1-5th
Recaster 6-8th
Shadowcraft Mage 9-13th
Recaster 14-15th
Ruathar 16-18th
Archmage 19-20th (spell power, reach spell)

We are starting a little before the war starts, maybe up to a month or so.

My interpretation of of the Eldeen Reaches and Aundair will differ slightly from the text for obvious reasons, but the basic timelines mentioned in the books (looking to the past and future) should remain the same.

There are political reasons the Eldeen Reaches are tied to Aundair, and the solidarity of the Druids have alot to do with it. Remember though that they are influential more than authoritarian, and other groups rules sections of the Eldeen Reaches while Audarians 'supervise' the region.

If it helps with your backstory at all, we are starting Fairhaven.

Anyone else have any ideas on how to tie in character backgrounds?

I dont think that will work since he says the flying ships have yet to be invented. Im working out some other ideas for a Background. Thiking along the lines of a member of an elite gaurd for the royalty. Again I dont know anything about Ebberon so I dont know how the elves are ruled. If not a guard of royalty Im still thinking a guard who serves some sort of court or magistrate. Anyone have any suggestions that tie into the world history?

Elves themselves don't have a court in the Eldeen Reaches.

There is the Kingdom of Galifar, but it's court is not in Aundair either, being an elf, you could be a guard for one of the 2 elf dragonmarked houses, Phiarlan or Vadalis. if you're dragonmarked you could have the d'Phiarlan or d'Vadalis name, if you work FOR the house and bear no make, then you are allowed to add Phiarlan or Vadalis to the end of your name.

Well since it's starting before the Last War, we could have been an adventuring group...simple.

Perhaps we get drafted by our nation to fight the war, as an elite strike team.

What is a dragon mark and what advantages/disagvatages do they have?

Just need to flesh out the RP stuff and buy normal equipment. Everything else should be done.

A dragonmark is a blue and purple tattoo-like mark that appears on the various dragon-marked races (Main races). For example: I have the Mark of Shadow, it allows me to use darkness 1/day, it also makes me a member of the dragon-marked house...now if I screw up bad enough, I can be excoriated from my house.

There are twelve houses, the 13th house was destroyed during the War of the Mark. The destroyed mark was the Mark of Death.

There are also aberrant dragon marks, which have various powers, but people with an aberrant mark are regarded with suspicion at beast and as monsters at worst.

So if I searved as a personal guard to a member of one of these houses I could have the mark put on me to get the bonus. Is that a magic item or a feat or just a bonus to picking a house? What marks would bennifit a guardsmen of the elven race?

It's not an actual tattoo, it appears basically at random, you can choose a mark as feat selection. Humans have the Mark of Warding, but it's not available to an elf. The marks are said to be part of the Dragon prophecy.

Anyone have a site that gives the basics of Eberron for him?

It's a very intricate campaign setting, one of the best in my opinion.

Just a side note, House Vadalis is actually a human house. House Thuranni and Phiarlan are for you pointy ears.

And, Faress has an Aberrant mark, but he doesn't know what it is, and he certainly doesn't tell people about it.

Bah, you're ABSOLUTELY right, that's what I get for talking without my books while I'm at Work LoL.

Uh Oh, I have have chosen the wrong name, now that I see Thuranni, which are the Assassins for hire...?

Shadow Lodge

Not quite.

House Thuranni doesn't exist yet.

During the Last War, a faction from the House split off, and became House Thuranni. (they first split in 972)

Both houses fill practically the same roles, though House Thuranni is who you hire if you must investigate House Phiarlan!

It won't come into affect until 80 or so years from when we start....You should be ok ;)

Ah, I forgot about that, lots to think about with a Last War campaign heh.

Shadow Lodge

I know! It's quite difficult. I keep re-writing parts of Faress' story whenever I come across things that are not quite congruent with history. Although the interesting thing is the opportunity to be a part of historical resistances, uprisings, and changes.

Keep your backgrounds fairly general and simple. That way they can fit in without much frustration. We agreed to be from Audair/Eldeen Reaches so basically we all need a reason to be there if not born there and reasons to work together. You could all be adventurers or mercenaries/hired hands at one time but you were recruited by an Audarian 'handler' known to you as Mauthinus. You have been working together within Aundair searching for a shifter called Bruhask. He didn't give much of a reason why the government wanted him, other than getting him into custody would reduce shifter agitation in the Eldeen Reaches.

Where is this game being played? Is it PbP?

PbP but we are full of players right now, we've already turned someone else away... you are free to lurk though and wait to see if something opens up.

Ok, I changed up my flaws slightly, I took a metal allergy to cold iron (I typed in what I thought it should do), and Conceited. I like noncombatant but I didn't want to duplicate someone else's flaw choices, just a personal thing for me.

Kael is travelling around. So far he's been to the ironroot mountains, Valanar, Cyre, and he's now in the Eldreen reaches researching about his allergy.

I should be completely finalized from a mechanics point of view tonight or tomorrow morning.

What role do you see yourself in your house. I was thinking if you rate as someone of importance that maybe I am asigned to be your protector. A sort of bodyguard. Easy for me to write up a background while not knowing any of the setting. Let me know what you think.

I see myself as a blade for hire, as befits a Phiarlan...I'm quite adept at killing enemies, though I'm also quite adept at sneaking and gathering info. I doubt I need a bodyguard tho.

Shadow Lodge

House Phiarlan is a house of dancers, musicians, and entertainers of all kinds. Most of them are also spies. I'm running an Eberron game as well, and there was a ridiculous scene with a Phiarlan elf. There's more to it than meets the eye, but if you're bored it should be a fun read!

Thats cool, just an idea.

So DM....here are my thoughts. Sillabare has been training at an exclusive elven school dedicated to the art of the Duskblade. Kind of and arcnae martial academy that only a few get the privalliage to attend. I'll play him kind of haughty and arrogent, sees himself as slightly better than others because of his education. The Ballerino family has amassed a slight fortune in winemaking and was able to provied thier children a better life. After leaving the school he has served as a spellblade for hire, working as a guardin for the children of nobles or protecting the personal property of elven lords who an afford to pay. I'll let you provide me some details to incorportate into the story line of the game.

One thing about Eberron, race doesn't matter as much as Nation or House...If it's an exclusively elven thing that would either mean it's from Aerenal, or House Phiarlan...as the other elves haven't hit the shore at this time.

Just because you weren't a guard for me, doesn't mean you couldn't have been a guard for another, perhaps my mother or father. That would link us.

I think there's a write-up about duskblades in the Player's Guide to Eberron, can someone summarize that for him? (If it's in D&D it's in Eberron is the saying they made for Eberron. and most of the conversion is in the Player's Guide.)

Oh and Dahn, thanks for reminding me about Phiarlan beign entertainers...so now my Profession is Acrobat...heh...

Sheesh. Forget I said anything.

You know, I am at fault here. I am sorry. I said it completely the wrong way and only from reading about five posts.

The posts from the elf guy, with the way he spoke are what hurt. Having not read the entire thread I don't know if it was a dramatic flare or crossed wires on my behalf as a reader, it just didn't come out great... to me.

The discriptive narative from the DM, as very illistrive, and did envoke a largess and expansive feeling that this was a huge feast for a prestigious crowd.

EDIT:

Having read through to the next page, I'm liking following the PC's and the feast, the jester is just a bit of kilter to me for some reason.

Again it was very rude of me and I am very sorry.

Sillabare, maybe you are in the Eldreen Reach trying to secure a better deal/ a new deal on some really great grapes for your families wine industry...

Of course Sillabare would see this as an engnormous waste of his talents and be itching to find something else to get into... ;D

Shadow Lodge

Oh friend, i was only kidding. I don't mind at all. The story is quite convoluted;

Spoiler:
at that point in the story, we are at a birthday party for a noble. Except the noble has actually been killed and replaced by a changeling a few years prior. His friends are starting to get a little suspicious, and so stage this whole event, centering around themes of masks and acting, to try and fish it out of him.

There are many NPCs, and the PCs are all connected by telepathy. The speech in bold is heard by all. Also, one of the PCs hears voices in her head. Now that they are all connected, every single one of them hears her voices too.

The Lyrandar twins are upset about the use of enchantment magic to 'lift the mood' because earlier that day their father was enchanted into murdering most of his staff, and striking out against them! They didn't take the use lightly, understandably. (their father was enchanted by their uncle, who is actually their real father, and has come back from exile in order to goad them into developing their powers, among other things)

Long story, and some of the feast was borrowed from 'trimalchio's feast', especially the descriptions of the food. That's probably why it sounds awkward!

I'm not offended in any way! I'm just being sassy.

don't be a guard for my parents, I was an orphan.

My description and backgrounds are posted, I'll finish getting my gear tonight.

Skills and Feats are complete, I took 2 flaws (Leacherous and Short Temper)from that one website you had greenlighted. With one of the bonus feats I took the Extra traits feat from Second Darkness. One of the Background traits I took was from Iron Kingdoms, Let me know if everything is good. Having been an orphan he's VERY self-centered and self-reliant, he can work with a team when he has to, but he also knows that if he is too much of a bastard he might be excoriated from House Phiarlan, and that is the only family he has truly had, so he is fiercely loyal to his House.
