Okay folks; here's the plan. Since this is the week coming up to Halloween, I'm going to be throwing out a killer critter every day of the week and culminating with two critters on Halloween itself!

I'm going to be alternating between second edition Ravenloft conversions and 4E mini conversions (from the new set); the current schedule looks like the following:
Monday
- [RL]: Red Widow
Tuesday
- [4E]: Brain in a Jar (Lords of Madness)
Wednesday
- [RL]: Mist Elemental
Thursday
- [4E]: Cloaked Ambusher (Lords of Madness)
Friday
- [RL]: Grave Elemental
Saturday
- [4E]: Rime Hound (Lords of Madness)
Sunday
- [4E]: Rot Harbinger
- [RL]: Mist Horror

The first update (the Red Widow) should be up sometime later this evening if all goes well.

Liberty's Edge

And here's today's update! The Red Widow!

Ooo, good list!

Liberty's Edge

Trying to go for the creepier stuff floating around. :D

Liberty's Edge

Today brings the Rime Hunter!

Liberty's Edge

Happy Halloween!

We have to critters today, the Mist Horror, and the Rot Harbinger

Very good. My Halloween pack had a Rot Harbinger in it.

Nice. :D

From what I understand they're basically Angels of Decay (Libris Mortis) with the serial numbers filed off. Still a nifty little critter.

Ah, thanks for that: I'll go and check.

I think there's a size differential, but that's pretty much it. I dunno, I haven't really checked into it myself, just parroting what I read whilst trying to figure out via Google what size the mini was.

Yeah, that's what I found.

So...how about the Crownwing? :)

The swarm of rot grubs really bother me: they're impossibly big. I'd have an easier time believing larva were smaller (5' tall? How do devils and hags trade in them at such an inconvenient size) than that rot grubs, which can borrow in my arm, are the size of cats. Any ideas on how you will use the mini?

For the first time, I got an extra mini in a pack. That mini is the Blood Fiend (R). So I came out 2 Commons, 1 Uncommon, 4 Rares, and 0 Very Rares. Happy Thanksgiving!

Those crownwings are pretty mean looking; they'll probably be gotten to eventually. Looking at their DDM stats, I'd probably peg them around CR 8 or 9. I'll add 'em to Ye Olde List

As for the rot grubs, I dunno what I'd do with them. They'll probably get stated one of these days, but not anytime soon. I just don't see what they could be used for. I suppose you could say it's a swarm of almost-mature grubs that are looking for food or something, but I don't know how well that'd float.

Congrats. :D

Might as well do the Swordwing at the same time as the Crownwing. What are you up to these days, Gene? Play-testing for Myth & Magic? Lost in WarCrack?

The swordwing has been added to the list; it looks like it'll be somewhere around CR 6 or so.

I haven't been up to much these days, really. Just working on various projects and dealing with pre-, current-, and post-holiday family relations coming into town. Busy busy busy.

Haven't touched Warcraft; I got that out of me years ago and every time I think on going back I just remember the horrible grind to do much of anything and take a pass on it. :p

I am hoping to get a mini or two up before Christmas, though. Hopefully.

Nice. Yeah, I just threw WC out there because the new release seems to be sucking people back in. Stay strong!

Yep, it's a busy time of year, so any conversion squeezed in is very much appreciated.

Are you gaming regularly? Tell me yes so that I may become a bladder overflowing with green bile.

Yes, it's snagged a couple of my friends, but I just can't afford to play. That makes keeping away from it quite easy in the long run. :p

Alas I'm not playing often; maybe once a month. We just got a game in yesterday/today (it was a looooong session) and we're planning another for next week, but outside of that it'll probably be into next year before I get another game in of any sort.

Old Lang Syne, lyrics by Pax Veritas

Should Old Print Versions be forgot,
and never thought upon;
We love Pathfinder OGL,
For v.3.5 lives on:
4e has changed to something cold,
that lacks the Gygax flair;
But one glance at Bestiary 2,
and we see Gary there.

CHORUS:
Your v.3.5 stat blocks dear Gene,
are wonderful indeed,
We raise a cup of thanks to thee,
For making the ones we need.

______________________________________

Thanks again for all the new stats. I cannot wait to get the newer minis for use in my OGL/v.3.5/PFRPG-compatible game.
... Happy New Year v.3.5 Stat Block Conversion Thread!

All my best to you and yours,
Pax Veritas

Weep bitterly. I was super bummed out when they canceled the DDM line. I dunno; I may just start stalking the 4E monster manuals for monsters to convert. I may hang up the hat; we'll just have to see when the time comes.

Don't cry, Blue Gene: Just go back through all of them now and convert 3.5 to Pathfinder!

I have four requests....

Possibly five....

I picked up the Beholder Colloectors set. Did we already transcribe those? Theres a ghost, a frost, a tyrant, and a ... blue thingy.

As for my D&D table... I started up two new groups for Pathfinder RPG. Each will run monthly, so I should be gaming 2 out of every 4 weeks. Just going a little lighter these days, beacuse I prefer the time to prepare.

I'm reading through old James Jacobs' dungeons in the old Dungeon magazines. Yea, he's always been glistening with talent and quality.

I also found one by ... Perkins i think, and its about an old dwarven monestery (big fan of the old dwarven monesteries, just like Bulhman's in the first Pathfinder RPG module), where there are a lot of neat beasties and a good story. What I'm doing is actually "building" the dungeon on my table top in its entirety using tiles, and tiles I make on my own. I picked up some dungeon dressing items too for visual appeal, but right now cannot find a good affordable expansive Dwarven Forge set to purchase.

I plan to print a copy of Gene's book and organize my miniatures so that I have all of his stat ones together if possible, and to see what I'm missing.

Has there ever been a miniature for a simple grey ooze? I think i have a Yochlol, and a Gibbering, and a Ochre Jelly, but nothing for simple brown mold or oozes.

Lastly, I'd like to address the discontinuation of the miniatures line by saying..... I'm not surprized with anything the wotci do. Something that has generated as much revenue as miniatures will never go away. Its just a question of where/when it will manifest itself again. There is talk of D&D 5th edition now.

What I wish to encourage.... is conversions of 4e minis into v.3.5, and as Gene has done in the past, conversions of 2e and 1e creatues into v.3.5. V.3.5 is the building block OGL language of our beloved Pathfinder RPG game. When Gene converts minis or creates ANY stat block, its immediately relevant for my Pathfinder RPG game. Thats the beauty of the backward-compatibility that is at the heart of Pathfinder RPG.

Anyhow, good chatting with you folks. I look forward to reusing all your stats now, with two new player groups! And, which link is the most recent copy of the book, Gene? Thanks for all you've been doing. Keep up the great work!

Peace & Truth
Pax et Veritas

Yeah, conversion was a strong word, but I thought in context it was safe.
I second all the requests here. The Oni Night Haunt can be an ogre mage, but I'm curious what Gene would do with it.

Sovereign Court

Whoopse.

I meant to say the module from Dragon #84 was by Tweet, not the other 4e guy. Tweet uses some pretty heavy gygaxian naturalism to explain every last detail in the dungeon, and does so for both the part thats been ransacked and the part that's been preserved for ages. Good module.. Dungeon of the Fire Opal.

I realized the map legend says 1 square = 10 feet, so I'm not sure if I will be able to print it all out.

I kicked off a new related hobby - paper modeling - last night. Do you know which product was the uber-top-shelf one? I want only the best for my game table.

P.s. How you been M? Gene? Hope the new year finds you productive, well, and gaming!

Regards,
Pax Veritas

Point by point:

Pax:
Beholders - I could do them; do you have any idea of what the name of the blue one is? I'll probably Google around and see if there are 4E versions of them and then work backwards from that.

Grey Ooze - I don't know of any grey ooze minis, sadly. I've always just used the reaper slime minis (found here) and just painted them whatever color I needed them. They're kinda small, though (roughly medium-sized).

Most recent version of the book - Here's a link to the most recent version of the Creature Conversion Compendium.

How I've been - I've been okay; just busy as crap. Launching another website for a friend of mine has consumed the majority of my time as of late; however it's almost done so I'm looking to be getting some free time to work on conversions once again. How've things been on you guys' ends?

Mairkurion
Oni Night Haunt - I'm a huge fan of the Oni and I'll get this one done ASAP. Depending on the 4E stats I may take it as an oni ninja of sorts. Oh the evil... >:D

Started poking at the Oni Night Haunter. He's going to be mean. Very mean. Looking at CR 10.

Haven't done that one yet, but I'll add it to the list.

Was the beholder tyrant the only one they made for beholders other than the undead beholder for v.3.5?

Just wondering if I have all the beholders now?
Pax

This may be the wrong thread, but I'm looking for 3.5E of PFRPG stat block for the abyssal eviscerator. Can some one point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Sovereign Court

Hey Bitter,
I think its in the Miniatures Handbook. One sec. lemme check...

Yep, here it is on the first page (page 45) of Chapter 3: Monsters. Based on the date of print its 3.0. Its a great mini but not a lot of folks have this book. So, here you go & thanks for visiting our humble thread:

Sprouting from its belly is a second pair of taloned arms, which are as spindly as its main arms are muscular.

Rake (Ex): Attack bonus +10 melee, damage 1d6+5.

Bitter Thorn, are you asking for a PF update of the stat block?

Mairkurion {tm} wrote:

If there is a PF update that would be cool, but if CR4 works all I need to do is figure CMB (9) and CMD (19). I think.

I'm using a number of evil outsiders IGM, and I've only used these figs for fill ins so far. I thought I'd try to mix it up.

Thanks guys!

UPDATE FROM THE PLAYTEST TABLE:

Dateline: March 9th, Game Table

I would just like to say, that after all these years, I'm still using Gene's stats with glee. There's an incredible feeling of placing a mini the players have never seen before on the game table.

I've printed Gene's stats on heavyweight paper, and make notes on them. The creatures he's created have stood up to the players in good measure, and at appropriately assigned challenge ratings.

Most recently, the Vicejaws came out and delivered a nice quiet spanking while a Slaughterstone Eviscerator came out to play as well (Mini & MMIII, v.3.5, OGL) and was used in conjunction. What a hoot.

Question: Hows the Lords of Madness set overall? Do we have, or will we expect to have stats for much of those? If so, I have my eye on a full case I can acquire. If not, I might be more hesitant.

Thanks for the great work, Gene.
See you around the realms!
Pax

Besides the fact that there are some useful minis in there (where else can you get a brain in a jar? A nafeshnee [sp]?), the sculpts seem to be pretty nice. Where they cut corners was on cheap paint jobs. Some paint jobs are much cheaper, others are nicer. Still, I've been pretty happy with the set, and figure I may eventually touch the sloppier, less color jobs up some day. After all, it's probably the last we'll ever get from Wotci. After this, prices will probably go way up, making my filling in the missing holes from the secondhand market more of a rarity. I'm slowly starting to pick up Reapers to get used to this new world. Got the gargoyle and the (large?) red dragon.

Mairkurion {tm} wrote:

Which type of Reapers are you getting? Are these all die cast, or are some plastic. Guess I'll need to check those out too.

What I'm finding is that Gene's solid stat blocks and technique of capturing the wild stuff from 4e, then converting it back to 3.5 is a solidly perfect design for my game table.

I'm able to keep players guessing, introduce new minis, and unleash all the Pathfinder goodness to boot with a quick note about CMB/CMD.

I'll look at Reaper and let you know what i think. Ideally, I'd like to stay with a plastic collection. I'm not too interested in metal, and I prefer not to do any painting.

Keep up the good work Gene.

Yeah, I'm getting the plastic pre-painted Reapers. I hope someday to graduate to metal Reaper Pathfinder minis, but we'll see.

Playtest Report: This past weekend the mini-bulletes came out and proceeded to worry the bejeezus outta the players.

By mini, I still mean the large sized ones that Jeene put v.3.5 stats to.

GREAT JOB!

They played marvelously, including the power to knock folks prone upon burrowing up from the ground. Players were falling all over.

Imagination is key, and these minis captured theirs. By the time it was done, the two CR5s had at least half of the players down to their last few hp.

Fortunately, one of the players is a fantastic spellwrangler and managed to pull off some amazing fingerwaggling, causing all kinds of crazy damage types to one of the bullete such as con loss, str loss, dex loss. The monk came through with a few stuns to allow players enough time to catch their breath also.

Thank again, Jeene. Your work on these stats makes for so many awesome nights of v.3.5/OGL/Pathfinder RPG goodness!

I have a need for two mini-stats:
The Molech - he's a rotund demon of sorts.
Deathgrasp Sarcophagi - forgive the spelling here, I'm not looking at the mini at the moment.

Thanks Gene,

Gods I need to float around these boards more often than I do!

The oni night haunter is probably ninety-five percent done; all I've got to do yet is write is combat tactics and flavor text. Should have it up in awhile then I'll get right on your requests, Pax.

Liberty's Edge

Alrighty, the oni night haunter is up on-site:
Oni Night Haunter

This is a monster that I REALLY wish I had more than one page to use for stating it up. There were a couple more abilities I'd have liked to give it. Alas.

Anyways; onto the molech and deathgrasp sarcophagi. Should have them up within the next few days if all goes well.

I have a Pathfinder RPG game arc running now where the beholders from the 4-pack set are the "bosses" behind the collapse of a barony. I wonder if you could pick one (from the 4e collection) to portrey in v.3.5. They plunk into Pathfinder play nicely from there.

For example, one beholder is purple, another i think uses special electric power, another is kinda translucent looking and I think they would make marvelous opponents for the PCs if treated to a heaping helping of Gene-o-matic Stats.

So,
Beholders please!?
As early as next Saturday I could use them, but even 1 beholder in the next week or two could work.

I'll let the PCs arrive, conduct their research, and witness the beginnings of the collapse of the government there.

This should buy me enough time until Gene can consider the Beholders for statwork.

Thanks for considering,
Pax

You are SO not alone on that. Were my current group higher than fourth level I'd have definitely sprung a couple of these guys on them by now.

Alright, I'll get on it right away. Beholders incoming (except the Eye Tyrant which is just a normal beholder from the Monster Manual)!

EDIT: Scratch that. I'm rewriting the normal beholder (the eye tyrant) as well. Just looked at its stats. Those things are NOT a CR 13. : /
