RotR pointbuy

Postmonster apparently ate the last one.

So, sorry for probably asking this question that's already been answered (and if the postmonster didn't actually eat the last one, more apologies...), but for the RotR AP with PFRPG, what pointbuy are people using? 15 point standard pointbuy or 20 points 'high fantasy'?

I'll probably average 4.5 players and our general tendency is not to optimise (so players won't be getting the most out of their classes).

When I create a thread, it almost always disappears right after i submit it, so I have to create it again. And when I create the second one, the first one shows up as well, so I have to delete one of them.

Anyway, for RoTRL I used 32 Point Buy. For CotCT I use 25 point Purchase (which results in virtually the same stats).

Hmmm, that's with the 3.5 pointbuy, I guess. 32 would probably translate to the 20 point PFRPG pointbuy, I think (off hand).

So, I don't have my 3.5 stuff with me so can't remember how pointbuy works with that, but in PFRPG:

20 point buy could give them, for example and before racial mods: 16 14 12 12 11 10

15 point buy could give : 16 14 12 10 10 8
or (not worrying about even numbers) 15 13 12 12 11 10

I am assuming that the 20 point-buy array there is more like the higher point-buy from 3.5...

32 Point Buy (which is the 3.5 method) translates into 25 Purchase (the name of Pathfinder's method).

Oh, OK. That's 'epic fantasy' and would give (say), before racial mods: 16 14 14 12 12 11

Alternatively, for someone that wanted two 18s at 1st and who would take a +2/+2/-2 race, before racial mods an 'epic fantasy' buy would give: 16 16 14 12 10 8

That's good to know. How many characters and how did it go?

The increased magic item costs in PFRPG presumably mean that if I don't increase treasure that ability mods will be harder to come by which would suggest higher starting stats (except that if I remedy that with higher point-buy, the remedy is all front-loaded) but then the classes do seem stronger (and I'm just not going to use the new Power Attack, even though I appreciate that it's a playtest, or I'll never persuade anyone to play fighter).

Updating my own thread...

Toyrobots also went for the "Epic Fantasy" 25 point buy. I'm still thinking that 20 points will be OK, but I don't want to low-ball it too far (on the other hand, I could always let them retrofit with a 25-point array if I felt it was necessary down the road, wheras there's no way it'd be easy to get away with docking them back down to a 20-point array if I started with 25 point buys and then decided it was too high...).

I started a RotRL campaign a couple of months a ago. We started with PFRPG 20 point buy and we feel the character have good stats.

The PFRPG 20 point buy is working well for my RotRL campaign as well. I have 5 players. The 25 point option forces too much encounter retooling from 3.5 to Beta, imho.
