Legacy of nonplot?

Legacy of Fire

I read and re-read the Legacy of fire AP description ten times, but I still can't recognize any meta plot connecting part 2 to part 3... I mean, "The PC's find a map" is a rather bizzare way of creating any sense of continuesy in a campign... my players will NEVER follow such obvios a hook... I mean, where's the PC's motive? who's the archvillen? I really don't get it!

I understand and agree completely with your concerns... when I originally read that description I felt the same way before I thought of two things:

1) For products planned this far in advance, the description may change. A recent example is The Pact Stone Pyramid.

Spoiler:
It's original description seemed to indicate that it would be like Entombed with the Pharaohs, as a race against another adventuring group, but the more recently updated description looks like the enemy group has already been in the Pyramid and are now a bunch of undead bad guys, if I remember correctly.

2) The connection will probably make more sense once the adventures are out. For instance, maybe the map says where it leads too, and other points in PF20 indicate that there is something strange going on at that location that the PCs should investigate, but at the time the PCs didn't know how to get to the location. Alternately, maybe some strange prophecy says that the PCs should follow a map. A 1-paragraph description just really isn't enough room to convey all of those details.

Who in their right mind follows a prophesy in the Age of Lost Omens. They're just asking for it. Then again, what good would an adventure be if the proverbial poo didn't hit the proverbial fan. Proverbially.

(Curse of the Crimson Throne spoilers)

Spoiler:
Indeed. I had been trying to come up with a second option and Zellara's harrowings, especially the prophecy in Skeletons of Scarwall, came to mind. Maybe it could work something like that? But I doubt that anything like a prophecy would be used for an important tie-together just 8 months after the last issue of CotCT.

We don't have enough room in those super short blurbs to say much of anything about the connections between adventures, and since you're only seeing the first half of them up so far, remember that you're only getting the first half of the story as well. In addition, we usually have to write those blurbs within hours or even minutes of concepting the basic adventure, at which point we DON'T have much more to say since we'd rather err on the side of being vague than giving out too much information that's subject to change.

We'll have more to say about Legacy of Fire in about a month or two, when we actually start working on it. There'll be posts in the blog and all sorts of spoilers for those who know where to look (such as the weekly chat every Tuesday). And we'll have a proper, for real campaign summary in Pathfinder #19 that I'm also thinking of posting online.

But we're just starting Second Darkness, and that means the time is not yet right to spend all that energy on Legacy of Fire. Have patience. We'll get there eventually! :)

Boss. We've got a suspected agent of Wizards of the Coast here, who's infiltrated Paizo and is spreading 'plots suck' propaganda.

You think a creature *THAT* size could 'infiltrate' anywhere? The fellow may prefer more elemental forms of RPG fun, but he is clearly not a spy or agent provocateur.

Now get back to work looking for some *real* threats to society, like traffic cone breeders.

My apologies for the intrusion, Lord Jacobs. But if you do need someone to carry out an examination of the suspected heretical, feel free to drop me a line; My colleague, the PostMonster General can put you in touch with me.

Well, I must say I feel better now...

BTW, keep up with the SDAP, as far as now it looks great!

Something like the War of the Burning Sky Campaign Guide? A pdf of several pages designed for DMs would be awesome, though it might already be too late to get this into the pipeline as I know you're starting development on the AP already.

Nope; we don't have the manpower to divert to something like that. Furthermore, the arc of a Pathfinder AP is a mere six months; that's not a lot of time to get as much traction as the War of the Burning Sky has. We WILL have a Player's Guide for the new campaign, of course, just like we've been doing. But the actual outline for the campaign itself will likely be only two pages long, very similar to the one we did for Second Darkness in Pathfinder #13.

Personally I hope Paizo doesn't take 2 years to release a 12 month adventure...I'm pretty burned out on people selling me on an idea that then drags on and on and on.

sorry, had to vent

Now where have I heard about something like that?

Man I cannot wait for this AP, I am enjoying reading Second Darkness and I love EVIL Drow as much as anybody, but an AP in a desert setting (ala Al-Quadim and Arabian Nights etc.?) that focuses on Gnolls and Djinns??? Man I am so there... add in the thread on the planetouched prostitutes, and it may end up being my favorite AP Ever!

Cancel that, mate!

wow. from this thread I understod that I should expect more from LoF than what was promised months ago, but man I never saw that coming. the idea of a map leading to heaven, that later turns out to be the private senctrom of an evil Dejin... I can't find the right word to describe my feeling, so I'll either have do with overwhelmed or change it to the more correct term of "Awsomed of of my g~%-d@&nd wits!". even though I love SD, I can barley wait to get LoF. really, those AP's just get better as the time pass.

I have been as immersed in the backstory of Legacy of Fire as much as just about anyone over the last month, and I can say with authority that this will be the most "fantastic" Adventure Path to date. I cannot wait to see how the other five adventure authors develop the threads laid out in the superlative first adventure. ;)

Did you just say five other authors?

Five authors for five other adventures in the path.

Ummm, has anyone updated the store information then, as to AP authors, yet?

Nope! We'll get to that eventually.

No, because James and I are just being "hinty" and no formal announcement of any kind has been made.

Soon.

You mean as soon as you've tossed a nickel for whichever one it is that nobody else wants to do? :D

Said nickel has been tossed and caught. All six of Legacy of Fire's adventures have authors. We'll spill the beans eventually...

Dammit, I feel like a six year old. "Don't want nasty Drow. Want genies. Want genies NOW!"

Legacy of Fire is looking better and better, and my interest in Second Darkness is suffering as a result. Hopefully the eventual arrival of Pathfinder #14 and #15 (albeit in reverse order; thanks a lot US Customs!) will get me back into the current adventure path.

Paizo Employee Chief Creative Officer, Publisher

There are genies aplenty. Also gnolls. And I'm toying with adding a norker wrestler to my adventure.

Genies and Gnolls. It gets better and better.

Unfortunately I never got to play the Norkers adventure in Dungeon #1, so I'm certainly not averse to Norkers either.

In the interests of fairness, I should mention that Pathfinder #14 and #15 arrived together yesterday, and I now think even more highly of Mike McArtor than I did before. Children of the Void is probably my favourite Pathfinder so far.

No on the norker wrestler, btw. Norkers are not open content, dangnabbit. I made him a bugbear instead.

They are? I thought "norker" was just some foreign language version of goblin or whatnot. Thought it was from real world stuff.

What about an ogrillon? They're in ToH and let's face it--they are custom made boxer/wrestlers.

Ogrillons are, though, sorta lame. Norkers are cool... but not open.

Bugbears work fine.

You could make him a bugbear runt with alopecia (the disease where your hair falls out). That would be sort of norkerish, in a non-ogl violating way.
Especially, if you add the trademark suspenders depicted on the pitiful looking norker in "The Forgotten Temple of Tharizidun."
