Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Yeah, do your thing. A Survival check would be in order.

...and while you're at it, roll for initiative, all of you.

Male Half Elf ( want to make something of it !) Ranger 2

Survival 13 , initiative 13

Initiative (1d20+1=20)

Whatever it is, I'm ready for it, apparently. Do we need Perception checks too, by any chance?

Initiative Roll 1d20=9 + 1 for total of 10

Thanks for the info, Juliare. I'd wager your assessment is correct. I'll be someone in layout still feels their ears burning.

Initiative: 1d20+2=13

M Dwarf Rogue

Initiative (1d20+3=10)

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

You've ventured deeper into the forest, vainly trying to find some tracks of the mysterious girl, when suddenly a great crashing announces the arrival on the scene of a very surly ogre.

I'm assuming that Juliare is still taking point, so he's closest to it. The rest of you follow. I still need an initiative from Petra, but the rest of you all get to act before the ogre does. It's currently about 30 feet from Juliare and 60 feet from the rest of you. The whole forest is difficult terrain.

...and action!

Female Human mixed blood (Skandik blood link) Cleric 2 (favored class)

Initiative (1d20=12)

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The ogre seems a bit taken aback when he realizes that there are more of you, but then he rolls with it and hefts his large cudgel.

Not quick enough, though. Kirwen, Juliare, Brock, Petra, Thrakhir and Clark.

The exact order isn't really essential. Just hit him with whatever you've got.

Male Half Elf ( want to make something of it !) Ranger 2

Juliare will set up his longspear against a charge from the ogre

Female Human mixed blood (Skandik blood link) Cleric 2 (favored class)

Petra casts Icicle at the ogre...and no hit
Attack: 1d20=3

Clark moves forward as best he can while keeping an eye on the ogre's cudgel. Move up alongside Juliare, initiate Total Defense for an AC of 21 this round. Assuming he carries his shield, he will ready his new sword as he moves.

To Juliare: "Friend of yours?"

"Hey buddy - pick on someone your own size!" Kirwen says, laughing, before squaring his shoulders and saying, "Larger." He begins to swell once more.

Casting enlarge person, moving up 20 ft.

Brock smiles a little as he sees the big guy..."This one might hurt a little bit!"

Then Brock is off in his usual fashion his axe overhead chargin right at the big guy!

Attack:1d20+7=20 (I added a +2 for charge... Thats right right??

Damage: 1d12+6=8

Brock brings down his Axe yelling his mighty battle cry!

M Dwarf Rogue

Thrakhir moves up towards Juliare.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The ogre seems taken aback by Brock's charge. Clutching his side he growls, then hefts his greatclub and steps back, clipping Brock on the side of the head with a resounding blow, which would surely had laid him low had he not managed to roll with it. A whooping 23 points of damage! Ouch.

You're up again. The ogre is still about 25 feet from Juliare.

Brock slumps to the ground axe slipping from his hand...

M Dwarf Rogue

Here's a map...

Male Half Elf ( want to make something of it !) Ranger 2

Juliare take up his bow letting the longspear fall to the ground and let fly
attack 20 damage 3

Male Half Elf ( want to make something of it !) Ranger 2

will be unable to post till Wednesday/thursday

"Rave -- I mean, Petra! We have a man down! Are you able to heal him? Can we get him away from that thing?"

For the time being, Clark will continue Total Defense and is trying to figure out how to get close enough to the downed barbarian to drag him back from the monster.

M Dwarf Rogue

We are in difficult terrain so it's half move correct?

Thrakhir will double move up to 4730.

Thrakhir Flyingaxe wrote:

Which would mean that Kirwen only moved 15 feet last round, and (perhaps more importantly) that it would have been impossible for Brock to charge the ogre in the first place.

Well, let's not spoil the fun. I say we take the positions on the map for granted and proceed from there. Difficult terrain it is.

Just as long as Brock doesn't die because he was able to get so far ahead of us by ignoring the terrain but we can't get up to save him without ignoring it...

"Move it, freed-man!" Kirwen roars, smashing through the undergrowth to lumber up behind Clark. "You planning on just watching him die?" Double-moving to 47-48/29-30.

Clark Freeman wrote:

OK, I forgot about the impact on movement. Much as I hate to do it, Clark will not do the Total Defense. Re-posting plan.

Seeing Brock fall, Clark drops his sword next to Juliare and makes a double move to 4330 with his hands up, palms facing the ogre in a gesture of "I mean no harm." Once there, when he can, he will reach down and grab the big man to drag him back from the giant. I guess that means his shield will not readied, either. Yikes.

Untrained diplomacy check to approach peacefully 1d20+3=21

If Clark moves forward, then that changes Kirwen's move too - he's still right behind Clark, at 44-45/30-31.

Kirwen Wyrmsheart wrote:

Clark's moving.

I have this sensation of being the filling of a sandwich, standing between a pair of big'uns like this.

M Dwarf Rogue

It is easaier to see Thrakhir position from the brambles that separate as he makes his way up to 4828.

Updated map.

Are you waiting for the DM's judgement on Clark being pasted to move he and Kirwen?

Nope, just missed it, it's fixed now.

Female Human mixed blood (Skandik blood link) Cleric 2 (favored class)

Petra is not gonna use Channel energy right now. She's gonna wait for the ogre. In case she needs to heal both Brock and Clark. Instead she speaks an Inspiring Word* to Kirwen. Then she walks as close to Clark as she can (that would be 10 ft, right?)
*For the next round, the target adds a bonus to its attack rolls, skill checks, ability checks, and saving throws equal to your Charisma-bonus

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The ogre grumbles and takes a half-hearted swing at Clark, who manages to evade the sweep of the club. If you're going to drag Brock away, you'll suffer an AoO.

You're up again.

Gulp!

Continuing my efforts to look as small and unthreatening as a human in a suit of armor can, Clark will grab the bigger man's shoulders and try to drag him back from the ogre.

And hope really hard for a lousy roll on the AoO 'cause what he did to Brock would kill Clark outright.

Looks like WorsT missed my new position as well. No harm no foul, though.

"Let's see if I can't distract him a bit for ya," chuckles Kirwen. He circles around Clark, reading his mace as he goes, and squares off against the monster with a grin.

Move to 43-44/28-29, which puts the ogre within Kirwen's 10 ft reach. Drawing mace as he goes.
Mace attack with inspiring word bonus (1d20+7=17, damage 2d6+5=10)

M Dwarf Rogue

Thrakhir tries to make his way up to the enlarged spellcaster through the tangle of brush.

Updated map.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The ogre seems to have had enough. Not liking the prospect of having to battle someone of his own size, he retreats, brandishing his club as he goes.

Clark profits by the opportunity to take care of the unconscious barbarian.

You get 135 xp each for the fight. Clark also gets a hero point and one piety point for his valiant effort. Do you want to pursue the ogre?

Did I hit the ogre?

Kirwen probably wants to, but it's not a terribly good idea, what with Brock's condition and all.

Clark looks up from where he kneels over the fallen barbarian, "Thank you, big man."

Returning his attentions to the unconscious man, he checks Brock's condition.

Heal 1d20+5=24

Brock? Brock! Are you in there, boy? Wake up this instant!

"R.. Petra! I think he'll live, but without your blessing, I think he's going to be out for a while." Looking at the others, "Do you think we should call it a day, find a place to camp?"

Once he's comfortable with Brock's condition, he'll go over where Juliare is watching the surrounding terrain keenly and retrieve his sword. "Somehow I didn't expect grass stains to be the first thing I cleaned off of this..."

Ogre? What ogre? No, I have no interest in following any ogres, no sirree! ;-)

Female Human mixed blood (Skandik blood link) Cleric 2 (favored class)

Well Petra has 2 channel energy and one Bless left. That's it.
She can't use the scrolls until tomorrow.
Petra drops Bless and casts cure light wounds (not so light wounds in this case) 1d8+1=9
Petra think we should get Brock on his feet and then call it a day

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat
Kirwen Wyrmsheart wrote:

Yes, sorry, that's what made him reconsider.

Juliare fires another arrow for good measure and it sticks into the back of the retreating ogre. Rejuvenated by Petra's magic Brock opens his eyes.

I suppose you'll want to rest. Where do you want to spend the night (and the rest of the day)?

Kirwen takes a few steps after the retreating ogre, but Clark's words to Brock and then Petra pull him back. "Ahhhh... feh. Good riddance!" he grunts, waving the giant away before diminishing back to his usual, still-imposing size.

How far are we from the loggers' camp? Would it make sense to head back there and see if they'd let us share it with them for the night?

Brock slowly opens his eyes and looks up at the blond haired women,

"Da I get the damn thin or am I m heaven?"

When all is settled Brock is very disappointed with himself and is alot more quiet then usual. He seems down about the loss.

Sorry Guys I didn't mean to get hit so bad lol!

It's just an hour and a half away, so that would make sense. The other sensible option is the Roadside Inn.

If we're knowin' that the bandits are probably in yonder parts of this forest, perhaps the Roadside Inn would be a good place to spend the night and we can gather information from travellers," Thrakhir says with a gleam in his eye for some civilized comforts.

"We'll lose all the progress we made today, goin' back there," Kirwen points out.

"Yes, but we'll be makin' it up quickly by travellin' on the road rather than this mess," he says motioning to the thick woods around them.

"And it occurs to me that posing as loggers while they're not ambushing merchants might be a good choice for a group of bandits in these woods... I think I vote not to share a campfire with the loggers until we know who's who better."

Petra kisses Brock on his forehead

We're all glad your back. Especially me. Had you been fully healed you would have crushed the ogre to goo.
Tomorrow I will study the scrolls we found today, and then hopefully we have more healing power.
to the group I wote for the Inn. Me and Clark need to take care of Brock and get him fit until tomorow. Brock is still seriously hurt
to Brock You're lucky to be alive. Clark dragged you out while Kirwen and the others scared him off.
Petra and Clark can take turnes and try to use Petra's Healer's kit on Brock. Petra does need some sleep to get her spells back though

When Petra Kisses Brock He smiles that drunken smile again...
"Thank ya much Petra your to kind ta me"

"I vote INN" Brock says when they talk about where to stay.

When Brock is told about what Clark did he gets up with a painful grunt and puts one hand to hs head as he walks to the boy,
"Thanks Lad your a brave une aren't ya? I owe ya me life, and Petra to (He says turning red again), so I promise ya next time we be seeing that big thing again I'll not get hit so hard... Uh and I'll buy ya and Petra a Drink at the INN."

Brock seems to think this a good thanks, maybe its his smashed head or the kiss by Petra thats got him all off and more light headed then he normally is either way the rest of the night Brock is both in pain and a little up set with himself.
