Who are you rooting for?

It's still a month or so away, but as always, I will stand with my alma-mater, the North Carolina Tar Heels.

This year (hopefully) we will take all our talent to the Championship, rather than crashing a burning spectacularly as we did against Kansas last year.

Sovereign Court

I realize it's a still a ways off but I may get to see a game this season so I'm excited.
Go UConn!

Dark Archive

SUU Thunderbirds, I've gotta go with my alma matter. A couple of years back we even made it to the first round of the NCAA tourney. Of course we haven't had a winning season since.

Time to cast True Ressurection on this thread.

UNC was unanimously chosen as the pre-season Number One. Tyler Hansbrough was unanimously chosen for the pre-season All-America team.

This is a lot of pressure to live-up to! If they don't win the National Championship this year, it will be viewed as a failed season.

That kinda sucks... but not as bad as re-living the 8-20 season...

Sovereign Court

Oh yeah, I forgot about this...

The Exchange

I'll go with Snobi.

Go Zags!

That's my alma-mater, too! And oddly, Jack, I live in CT so I'll be rooting for UConn in sympathy with my brother-in-law. Unless they play the Heels, of course.

I'm still bummed about the Kansas game - I really hope we win this year.

Lo and behold, look who end up being the number one and two picks for the The Associated Press’ preseason Top 25!

Sweet, and I especially like the fact that Duke is 8 and Kansas is 24. Here's to hoping they stay that way. (I'll cheer for anyone in my conference and for favorites of friends with those two exceptions. In fact I'll cheer for anyone who plays against those two teams. ABD.)

Go Heels!

Apart from never rooting for Duke (a given), I will not root for any team currently coached by Rick Barnes (used to be Clemson, now Texas).

That &*(&^ jerk took a swing at Dean Smith in the middle of a game back in the day. He might rate even higher on my hate-list than Coach K.

I remember that game. Yeah, I'm not too fond of the him either. What I always liked about Dean was that he was so classy - he never let himself get ruffled. He never forgot to acknowledge the fans or the students. (I was in the band; he always made a point of thanking us after every game.) He never talked trash about another team or another team's coach and never passed judgment. Just classy.

I was there from '91 to '95, and I dated a girl in the band at the time. Weird.

We don't have much of a chance to win it all, but I've still gotta pull for my Alma Mater: Go Buckeyes!

A big chunk of my family in the midwest is split between Michigan and Ohio State, it makes for some fun trash talk. (Although I don't care about either...)

Yeah, Michigan/OSU is a fun rivalry. We go to a bar every year to watch the OSU/Michigan football game, and one side of the bar is full of OSU fans, and the other side is full of Michigan fans. It's always a good time.

Liberty's Edge

So the Heels took Kentucky to the woodshed last night, and we didn't even have Hansbrough or Ginyard.

Normally, I would be jazzed, but Kentucky has been in a right sorry state the past few years. They lost to freakin' VMI last week. VMI??!

Kentucky has always been one of the noble houses of college hoops. I don't root for them, but I hate to see a team with such a long tradition fading away like this.

'88 to '92. I still miss Franklin Street.

You got some of the Frankoin Street Glory Years. Huggins Hardware, The Intimate Bookshop, Barrel of Fun, Top of The Hill as a Gas Station. It still had that small town feel back then.

Huggins became a sub sandwich shop. Intimate Bookshop burned down. Barrel of Fun became a gourmet coffee shop, and Top of The Hill became an expensive, multi-level restaurant.

Oh yeah, and The Rat's gone too (sigh).

I still like to go visit from time to time. I love the fact that I was one of the students dancing around the bonfires in '93.

I was there in '93. About 15 of us gathered in my tiny apartment for the game. The whole block could hear us yelling. In 2005 I lived in Holly Springs so we just had a bonfire in the cul-de-sac near my house.

My best friend used to work at Barrel of Fun and it became a second hangout (after the music library). Spanky's is gone, too, and Jeff's Confectionery. At least the Shrunken Head Boutique is still there.
