Sir Muerdon |
As we travel together on this road, recalling the glories of the past through the exploits of the future, I suggest we begin be calling upon Vorr to be our strength in the face of evil.
Might Swift Sword, let your might be with us and guide us.
Thank you. Allow me to introduce myself more properly.
I am Sir Muerdon... Sir Muerdon of Gwyre, Purifier of Vorr... currently I am questing, seeking to prove my worth to Vorr by combating the forces of iniquity and darkness wherever they may hide. I trust that our time spent together shall be fruitful in this regard.

Don't forget part 2, just as funny.

Meurdon, max starting gold for cleric is 125 gp. Go to town! G. Sword - 50gp, Scale 50gp, 25 gold left for a rope and some biscuits.
Hrm, that seems a little low. I was thinking it was something like 3d6 or 4d6 x 10, which would be around 180 or 240.
As for weapon groups, I'll go with basic, heavy blades and maces/clubs.
Dungeon Master WA-74 |
Some minor non-spoilers for the games start:
Location: a Small Port City named Waterlog.
Population 1,000.
A industrial city built around the Saw/Logging Mill in town. made up mostly of tradesman and sailors. Waterlog boasts an impressive lumber operation and is well known for making quality ships, and being a large supplier of wood and building materials to the neighboring regions.
Your characters have been paid a lump sum of cash (The reason your starting gold was maxed out.) to simply attend a meeting with a self proclaimed 'visionary' of heroic undertakings, a man named Charles Abel, who wants to offer you a position in his new start up venture.
You backgrounds can have you already knowing one another, or simply meeting for the first time.
You are handed a wax sealed letter that has a Sun emblazoned on it's front in bright inks of red, orange, and yellows, at the center of this sun is a Blackened letter "A".
The letter has directions on how to get to Waterlog, along with a description of a strange boat named "Higher Than The Sun" where the meeting is to take place. Along with the closing 'See you there Hero!' written in bold strokes of India ink.

Might I suggest we decide how to divide the loot now?
"A fine idea. Myself, I need very little but what loot I do not need, I will donate to my church of St. Cuthbert." with a raised eyebrow towards the cleric and his "minor" deity, Aubec continues, "I suggest we divide loot based on who scores the kill. For I envision all the treasure of my foes filling the coffers of my church and spilling over to help the good people of the land."
THis seems a completely inappropriate way to divide loot, but Aubec likes the sound of it. I suggest we divide equally, perhaps with the person who can most use an item (need vs greed?) getting first dibs?
Alvartus "The Gilded Pick" |
Waterlog. Sounds like a bunch of drunken lumberjacks and fishermen. Sure to find some marks there, I reckon.
So, if I "kill" a chest, that means I get everything in it? Sound right to me, boyos.
Alvartus is likely a companion of one or another PCs: all good thieves need a trusted berk, after all. Anyone want to volunteer?
I'm with Otto about being fair with treasure. Whenabouts can we expect the actual PbP thread to start up?

That's average starting gold; the max for clerics is 200 gp.

I'm curious how you came up with 125. Finally got my Player's Handbook (3.0 but still) and clerics are 5d4 x 10 which is 200.
Edit: scooped :)

"T'would seem best to divide equally amon' us.
"After all, if'n ye hae need o' somethin', it's oft best--in me experience, at least--to ask afore takin' it.
"'Tis what The Dwarffather teaches us, as well. Ye won' see me goin' 'gainst His will, that be fer sure an' true..." Caith chimes in.
OOC: Really, the only way that I've seen parties avoid arguments is to divide up equally, with the proviso that current needs--discussed by the whole party--may alter that. Just my own experience.

Would you be willing to be in the process of being "converted" to the Dwarffather's church (you don't actually have to convert for Caith to be interested in your faith; you just have to show some interest)? If so, I'd be glad to be the one who knows you.

Once everyone has their characters done it'll be ready to go.

Hmm. Could be an intruiging RP opportunity. I would say his initial attraction would be the obsession with gems and shiny metal, plus the skillful nature of dwarves. Could be a slow process, but worth it!

Sudo looks to be a wizard. :) he hasn't posted however yet so that may change.
Edit: He must be working on it what I saw on his page is gone now.
I chose a wizard (Magic-user!) also.
I should be finished soon.
Kavelin the Red |
Waterlog. Sounds like a positively delightful place, very...rustic. Hopefully there are some old ruins nearby, or perhaps an abandoned monastery, something worth investigating. If I have to continue my learning in an academy I'll be a graybeard before I learn a third of what I want to know.

OOC:
Well, that's sort of the direction that I was thinking in. It's always possible that Alvartus is more interested in using Caith's faith to gain his trust and help than actually converting, too......Also, what's our normal marching order going to be?
OOC:
Caith would probably be best placed third in line or second-to-last in line: he should be towards the center for his healing abilities to be available to everyone; however, he also has darkvision, which means that he should be closer to the edge of the party to take advantage of his ability to see in darkness. Also, he's pretty tough for a priest.Just my thoughts on the matter
Sir Muerdon |
I shall of course serve wherever I am needed, but my preference is to be at the forefront of any battle, cleaving aside the minions of evil. That is not, however, to say that I am battle happy. There is a time and a place for a sharp, swift blade and a time for a fitly spoken word. When you choose the proper tool for each battle, the Valiant smiles his approval.
Shadowborn |
How are we handling light sources and such?
Could be very important given my rogue is human.
Also, what's our normal marching order going to be?
I have a few sunrods, and access to the light spell, since I'm human as well.
As for marching order, I'll happily have Kavelin take a middle rank, he may have a high Con but he's still of the softshell variety.

I envision a blade storm of fury between the cleric and I, and appreciate the mage's handling of light. I also approve the casting of light 'pon my sword or helm as necessary. Let Sir Muerdon cower our enemies with his diplomacy, but when intimidation is called for, I am there.
As for the round roguish fellow, maybe he would like to loll ahead, out of our radiant light.Bows to the dwarf an honor, brother. I hope our journeys together fund many temples to your dwarf-father. By Cuthbert, what a fine bunch of fellows we have here! Now then, whats this about a letter? A boat...?
Dungeon Master WA-74 |
Rearguard is appropriate for me since I am not a melee guy.
I have a lamp that can be used for light.
Now to pick feats and I should be done.
DM WA-74, how does he look so far?
Just missing weapon prof's but I assume you're taking 'basic' due to having a dagger.
Edit: A human Magic-User will not be able to take basic AND crossbows, it's one or the other. (Without taking a weapon group feat or multi classing.)

Me axe an' yer sword'll keep th' road ahead clear! Come on over, brother, an' share some o' this blessed ale as ye tell me o' th' letter ye speak o'..."

Sorry about that, I didn't know how you wanted to handle the PbP section. I'll keep to IC as much as possible. Did you want to make another thread? If you ask nice, Gary can usually delete unwanted threads.
All good. It's no longer an Issue :) I had something else planned but I can live with it, I was able to do in 1 post fine what I thought i needed 2 for. So no harm.

Aww, now I feel bad. Was your plan to stick entirely to IC on the PbP? You'll notice my next post is much more in tune with the game.

I would like to see a minimum of non IC posts in the IC thread, we can use the OOC for those. But this was more artist style that was on my mind, but it is a work around i can do. again no harm.

Languages:
If you plan on speaking in alternate languages please mark them as the examples below so the DM knows when your not using common.
Elven: "The trees are a shade of green I adore this time of the year."
Dwarven: "Are ye daft? The beard is the best part! You grab that silken mane with both hands and go to town on her backsides."
Draconic: "Please don't eat me, I taste horrible! I bet the Gnome over there though tastes great!"
Etc.

Hey DM,
Will we be allowed access to sourcebooks outside of the core? I was perusing the Advanced Player's Guide from Green Ronin and found a feat and a couple of spells that seemed right down my alley. If I post you the details as laid out in the book would you consider them?
