I think that it is pretty safe to say that you can swap the gold… if anyone wants to keep anything specific, they can say so afterwards. I’ll probably just do this for all mundane items after you find treasure, a list with a gp total (and in the future I’ll also provide a total/player). Magic items will be kept separate from this pool, as will many masterwork or exceptionally expensive mundane items. However, once I post the total gp value, it is up to each player individually to add it into their profile… I can’t keep track of gold totals for everyone.
The goblin steps up to the center door and bends down to look under the door. As he stands back up, he opens the door wide open and steps, slowly, through, watching all of you as he does, his expression showing that he is simply making sure that you approve of his actions.
Liandra, I’ll assume that that action is readied until the beginning of any other encounter.
Algret Durthane |
Algret gathers up her treasure, all while quietly muttering thanks to Torag. She secures her shield summons up an acid dart and follows Liandra. Algret is paying close attention to right and left flank as we go through the doorway, holding to fire if anything tries to flank us.
DM_Iziak |
The door opens into a short, 10-foot hallway that ends in another wooden door. The goblin stops just before that door and turns to face all of you, “Big-Big Goblin!,” and beckons towards the door again.
If you haven’t already, you should probably add in the 19 gp and 9 sp to your profile now so that we don’t all forget about it.

Enemies’ Perception checks: 3, 5, 17, 17, 19.
Enemies’ Stealth checks: 10, 10, 15, 24, 26.
Your Perception checks: Algret 8, Corvin 9, Goburn 10, Liandra (already rolled) 15/17, Skazz 10, your goblin friend 13.
GOBURN, SKAZZ
“Big-Big Scary Goblins!”
Skazz, if you haven't seen it there's a new Rage variant that you can use if you want up in the Discussion thread.
LIANDRA
“Big-Big Scary Goblins!”
ALGRET, CORVIN
Liandra Nightwind |
Liandra quickly moves back from the door, to position behind Skazz and the goblin. As she passes him she taps Skazz on the shoulder, flicks her head towards the door and holds up to fingers. She looks behind her to ensure that the others can see her hand indicating the least number of enemies behind the door.
She whispers in Dwarven.
Algret & Goburn
Algret Durthane |
Whispering to Liandra specifically and the group in general.
"Just a moment and let me see what the earth can tell us"
Algret bows her head, prays silently to Torag.
and uses earth sense to determine the number of creature within 20 ft touching the ground. The description doesn't state if that is in a straight line, circular radius, circumference etc...Willing to take DM's ruling on mechanics...just happy I actually get to try it
DM_Iziak |
ALGRET
You detect at least 3 creatures in the room that seems to be straight through the door, although on both sides of the short hallway there seem to be 3 or 4 more in other rooms behind the walls.
Algret Durthane |
"Pssst.."
Motions with her hand to come here.
Whispering. "There are at least 3 creatures on the other side of the door. However, our little gobber neglected to mention that on both sides of the hallway there seem to be 3 or 4 more in other rooms behind the walls. I cannot tell you if they are goblins or other vile creatures. If we attack they may be drawn to the fight. Should one or two of us hold back to fire at them as they come out of the rooms??"
DM_Iziak |
Here's my current plan, since it seems like Skazz, Liandra, and Algret are all still definitely on board.
There are a few options, although I'd like to wait a few more days for Goburn and/or Corvin to respond before we make a final decision:
1) Don't replace players. I'm thinking that maybe Glark could become a permanent member of the party, and then we'd have a four or five person group.
2) We can try to find 1 or 2 more players.
3) One or two of you can double up with an additional character.
4) I could take control of the one or two characters that might drop out.
Once again though, I think that we should wait a few more days. Until then, I'll take control of the characters in combat, but I'll keep them out of any roleplaying.
DM_Iziak |
Suddenly, and without warning, the door before you creaks open. Although it blocks your view of the room's left side, you can see a table in the middle of the room, and there is a door along the right wall (which runs in line with the right wall of the hallway). There's also a set of double doors against the opposite wall, which you assume lead outside based on the directions that you've been coming in.
The room is about 25 feet long going forwards, but you can't see how wide it is.
Your goblin friend jumps a little as the door open, and the aura around Corvin's hand fizzles away since he sees that there are, in fact, no foes immediately visibl.
Glark quickly regains his senses, an impressive feat for one of his race, holds a finger up to his lips to tell you all to be quite, and begins tiptoeing towards the open door...
Glark's Stealth=18. Enemies use same Perception checks as earlier (3, 5, 17, 17, and 19).
Algret Durthane |
Pokes Skazz in the ribs and whispers with a twinkle in her eye "Hey, high pockets...if you need a little help getting that famous battle rage up, I could kick you in the shin or something. Don't worry about it. I hear it happens to a lot of guys..." and nudges him towards the door...
DM_Iziak |
Glark creeps slowly into the room, looking around as he does so. As he begins turning back towards you, he jumps a little and says, "Jilarzkark! Jilazkark!"
You hear another, much deeper voice in the room, coming from along the wall behind the open door, "Gruglork! Tiralkrong!"
Clarification of positioning. B=empty space; G=Glark. E=Enemies. Y=All of you. I=the door. -=walls.
BBBG
BBBB
EBIB
----Y
Glark responds, "Wilgar! Wilgar! Tioflak Qualnart Humans!" Glark's Bluff=15. Enemy's Sense Motive=13.
The other speaker growls and you hear faint footsteps moving in Glark's direction, before the other creature comes into view, stalking slowly towards the little goblin.
The thing is a hulking brute, hair covered, slightly hunched. Its enormous eyes are a solid, pupiless white, and its ears point downwards. Sharp, jagged teeth stick out of its mouth in all directions. It carries in one hand a kukri and a shield in its other. You recognize it instantly: a bugbear.
Suddenly it turns to face the open doorway, and its blank white eyes meet yours, without looking back, it swats its shield at the small goblin (Attack=20 vs. AC 14 (flat-footed). Hits for 3 damage) and Glark is thrown forcefully against the room's back wall, where he crashes against it and crumples to the ground. "Glark! Yucrantkar! Humans!"
Although still alive, Glark cannot participate in this combat.
The bugbear then addresses you directly, "Fresh meat. Just what I've been waiting for."
Initiative=bugbear 16, Skazz 15, Goburn 14, Algret 7, Liandra 5A, Corvin 5B.
Bugbear: AC 17, touch 11, flat-footed 16; hp 16; Fort 12; Ref 14; Will 11.
DM_Iziak |
Skazz, I just noticed that you haven't posted under any alias for a week. To keep things moving, I'm going to post in your stead until you're back.
With only one enemy present, Skazz decides to hold off on raging until a larger fight.
Skazz hefts his axe and charges towards the bugbear (there isn't enough room to actually charge, so its a normal move and attack. Attack=Natural 1.), but his aim is wildly off and his weapon slams into the wall.
Your turn, Goburn.
Algret Durthane |
I know I am out of turn but I may not get to post tomorrow morning...so when it is Algret's turn she is going to..
"hey, leave him alone you dung of a carrion crawler. He may be a disgusting little gobber but for the moment he is our disgusting little gobber. Eat acid"
Fire another other acid dart 14+0
Also going to look back and make sure we are not flanked or surprised from the hallway.
DM_Iziak |
Good roll, Goburn. The bugbear has been reduced to -1 hp and is dying.
Seeing their comrade's fall, another four bugbears jump out from the hidden space behind the open door, javelins hefted to fire. Continue in the Initiative order normally.
I'll now assume that you are all more or less in the room now from slight movement, so here's the rest of the description.
The room is about 30 feet long. In the far corner from where you entered, there is a haphazardly-piled stack of loose papers, and there are a few other papers lying on the table. Another door is in the wall going East, back in the direction of the room where your fight against the small goblins had been.
DM_Iziak |
Thanks for the heads-up about posting time, Algret.
Algret fires off another one of her acid darts at another bugbear (the attack was already rolled. Attack against Bugbear 2=14 vs. 11 (touch AC). Hits for 4 damage.). The brute moans as the projectile collides with its chest.
Liandra's turn.
ALGRET
Liandra Nightwind |
Liandra lines up her shot, standing in the doorway and fires on another of the bugbears putting a shot into his upper torso.
1d20+4=17 Hit
1d8=6 (if he hasn't counted as acted and is flat footed then +1d6 sneak attack= 4)
Bugbear 3 has taken either 6 or 10 damage.
She quickly reloads, taking a 5ft step to her left to put her back to the wall.
DM_Iziak |
Sorry about the confusion there, Liandra. 6 damage seems fair to me... they had been preparing to jump out for a few rounds, so being flat-footed doesn't make much sense to me. In the future I'll try to be more clear about that.
Another orb of energy forms around Corvin's fist before rushing off towards bugbear 3 (Attack=Natural 1. Miss.), but it goes veering of course and slams into the pile of papers, sending them flying all over that half of the room.
DM_Iziak |
Enemy hit point totals: Bugbear 2=12. Bugbear 3=10. Bugbears 4&5=16 each.
One bugbear throws his javelin at Liandra, another attacks Algret, and two attack Goburn after seeing his vicious attack against their comrade.
Attack vs. Liandra: Attack=10. Miss.
Attack vs. Algret: Attack=19. Hits for 8 damage.
First attack vs. Goburn: Attack=11. Miss.
Second attack vs. Goburn: Attack=19. Hits for 5 damage.
Two of the bugbears (2&3) draw their morningstars, while the other two (4&5) draw their finely-crafted kukris.
Skazz's turn.
DM_Iziak |
Goburn and Algret: You did have to move 10 feet forwards to reach the bugbears. I'll assume that you did so unless there was a specific reason that you wanted to stay in place.
Enemy HP Totals: Bugbear 1=-3. Bugbear 2=-1. Bugbear 3=1. Bugbears 4&5=16 each.
PC HP Totals: Algret=10. Goburn=17. Everyone else=All HP remain.
Liandra's turn.
