Well that a steamer of a game. (And not in a good sense.) I'm not unhappy with the win, just not sure WHY we had this game. East Carolina I understand (sort of) But Delware State?! I mean putting up 60+ points, what does that prove?!

Fair enough. I like "Conciel" as a nickname.

At least I didn't call you Pumpernicke, Con. ;)

Captain, I guess...

It's going to be a bleak day tomorrow in America's Dairyland.

Especially once they do the math and realize how long the rest of the season is.

So we lost against TCU on their field, but won against Texas Tech on our. On the whole? I still think this is a middling team. But at least we're not Ohio State!

Wish the Packers had won the game last night, but I was impressed with how well they did against 'Burgh. Tough loss, but a good show.

Go Bills!

<.<

>.>

I'll show myself out.

Sovereign Court

I think there will be some great playoff games this year with the Vikings, Saints, Eagles, and Rams.

They've (the Bills) . . . kinda got a shot at the postseason . . . . And they opened the door for the Bolts and the Raiders, so -- cool!

I'm just wondering if *anybody* is gonna throw some brakes on the Eagles . . . .

Glad to see the Titans and Jags get some good things going, too.

The best part, though, is that the Patriots have apparently resolved their defensive issues. I want to see Belichick get another SB win!!

Sovereign Court

Its quite possible for a patriots repeat. All the teams in the AFC look terrible in comparison.

I dunno . . . . Pitt's looking hot, and the Jags' defense has been getting some big wins against solid opponents . . . . Still a lotta football to play.

Don't get me wrong: the Pats *are* the best team in the AFC right now, but even Darth Belichick can be surprised, sometimes. They're better on both sides of the ball than the rest of the AFC, but that's only half the battle.

So over in the NFC . . . .

Wow. Just wow.

3/4 of the South have 7+ wins. The Eagles are . . . what? Two wins from clinching? (Not that it's in doubt, or anything.) The Vikes are eking out the North. The Rams and 'Hawks are scrapping for the West. There's a lot going on there.

In my current estimation, the Eagles, Rams, Seahawks, Saints, and Panthers have the potential to muster a win against New England. The rest of the NFC I'm not too concerned about, but the Dark Lord of the Football is already scoping them out, I'm sure. The biggest question marks are the Rams and Eagles -- all-new foes, in a way.

SIDEBAR: And what about ol' Jimmy Garoppolo yesterday?? Play him, Shanahan!!

Sovereign Court

C.J. Bethard is terrible I never understood why 49ers kept up with him. I don't understand why they benched Hoyer for him either. I can only imagine they want to protect Jimmy so they can franchise tag slap him in the offseason.

This season has been.... frankly, boring as hell, given the sheer number of one-sided blowouts we've seen overall. Especially in the AFC, where most of the teams (my beloved Raiders most definitely included) seem intent on playing with the consistency of quicksand.

Of course, the AFC west being a muddied mess is all my fault, 'cause I talked a lot of crap at the start of the season about how three out of four teams looked really good. Clearly, they are now cursed by my Week One hubris.

The AFC East has been a Patriots (*yawn*) postseason delivery vehicle for over a decade now, and between the Fins and Gang Green showing only minimal signs of life, that seems unlikely to change. At least the Bills tried.

The AFC North? Well, they've got the most consistent team in football, not that Cleveland fans are likely to appreciate it. And the Bengals are... the Bengals. The Ravens are frustrating to watch, and Pittsburgh is yet again running away with it.

The AFC South? Now THAT has actually been kinda fun to watch, although my heart bleeds for all the Colts fans I know from my time in Indiana. It's been neat seeing Jacksonville show signs of life for the first time in what seems like living memory, and as a Raiders fan, I have a sort of sympathetic bond with the Titans after last season's matching QB injuries.

On the NFC side of things?

I've had a lot more fun.

The NFC East sees the Eagles romping along, smashing teams with appalling regularity. Look to see them endure a surprise agonizing bump-off in the postseason, but if they win the whole ball of wax, you can't say they haven't earned it this year. The Cowboys' collapse has been surprising to me, but not unwelcome, because I really really hate them, and the Giants appear to be trying to dig their way into a solid draft pick or something. As for D.C.'s team? Feh.

In the NFC North, the Vikings look set to deliver another postseason choke performance to keep the axle of the universe greased with the suffering of Minnesota fans. Whatever voodoo they paid for to get Rodgers sidelined was money well spent. The Bears continue to stink up the joint, Green Bay is on life support, and Detroit is... Detroit.

The NFC South- Again with the southern teams making a game of it- in a streaky, unfortunate fashion. Tampa Bay is pretty lame, but everybody else seems capable of playing impressively on a given week. Problem is when they also prove capable of playing like the Keystone Kops. Carolina, Atlanta, New Orleans... at least the multi-way race here is between teams with a 7-4 record or better, unlike the AFC West's muddy collection of 6-5 to 5-6 horror.

Aaaaaaaand the NFC West, or, as I've been calling it this year, the Seattle/L.A. showdown. Yes, Arizona and San Francisco show up sometimes, but... well.

New England delenda est. Dallas too, but they seem to be taking care of that on their own.
Glad my guys beat the Broncos last night, not that the Denver Donkeys have exactly proven challenging to chop to pieces this year.

This season has proven to me that Holgorson has no idea how to coach a team.

My fantasy woes continue after losing Robert Woods now Michael Crabtree is suspended for two weeks.....

My fantasy woes are the fact I had my home team going 4-8 instead of 7-5.

Y'know, I like a Raiders win, but that one was... sloppy. Remind me to send McAdoo a nice bouquet.

Drew Brees and the Saints just seem to have the Panthers' number as of late.

At this point, it looks like our best chance of making the play-offs is to root for the Saints to take down Atlanta, too. That way, we have a better shot of getting the Wild Card slot.

Sovereign Court

Russell Wilson is looking pretty great this year. Seattle's D is impressive too, if inconsistent. I guess the important thing is they show up to the big games...

I know Cuchulainn is a Panthers guy, but I don't see any way they keep from getting pounded. There are just too many better teams in the NFC....

Even with Vikes at the top, I've developed calluses against disappointing seasons....

Here's to the Saints smacking the Dirty Birds around a bit this Thursday!

So my mountaineers will play Boxing Day/St. Stephen's Day against Utah...in Texas. Yeah...I don't see this going well.

Looks like Gronk got one suspension which he should have gotten dirty hit by him. I love the guy and passion sometimes gets the better of us but you have to reign that stuff in. At least its only one game though so he will be back for Pittsburgh.

I'm surprised it was just *one* game. I'm a Pats fan, myself, but that . . . . There aren't any good words for how low that was. Sure, he got away with a hold/pass interference on that play, but retaliating like that for it? I'd sit him for two games -- no matter who the opponents were. Guess we're fortunate I'm not in charge, huh?

Sovereign Court

Ive had Elliot, crabtree, and now gronk get suspended on me.....

No denying Gronk deserves the suspension. Crabtree though got a raw deal considering AJ Green punched a dude repeatedly in the helmet (so stuipd) and only got a fine.....

As my brother (Xorn Terel, here on the boards) once said -- "Fantasy football? No, I play real [sic] D&D."

....and now Ju-Ju is on the suspension block unreal.

I watched that game. I saw that hit. What's his paycheck-per-60? He'll learn.

Though, now, -- OF COURSE!! -- everybody on ESPN is screaming about the difference between Gronk's hit and Schuster's, and the lack of distinction in the punishment handed down. Watch the League crawfish, and hit the Pats again.

Hmm seems Juju Smith Schuster got one game.

One game

So that is good news that looks like Gronk will keep at one game. Not sure the NFL wants to mess with the biggest match up they have right now.

So...is college football not allowed or are people pretty happy with the playoffs right now?

I'm tired of 'Bama getting all the nice things. Not even conference champs this year, and still in the playoff!!

Where's my cut of Saban's pay??

Syrus,

Well if makes you feel better, I think Clemson might be able to beat up Bama this year...At least I hope so. If not, I'm hoping Oklahoma does.

And this week in the NFL so far, the rich get richer...

Green Bay's death spiral continues, as does Denver's slide- can you call it a slide when it appears to be their new baseline?

The Rams phone in a win over the Titans, the Chargers win a slapfight with Gang Green, the Guys Who Make The AFC East Tragically Dull drubbed the Bills, the Kansas City <Redacted> stomped the Dolphins into paste (sealing the oh-so-delightful AFC West title), and on, and on.

Most seasons are pretty predictable by now, but... this is just sad.

Sovereign Court

Sad was the panthers last second win. Been nice if the vikes got the bye week.

So...any college football picks for Tuesday?

An ugly, lurching, turgid, dull mess of a regular NFL season grinds to a merciful halt today...

So, how 'bout those Browns? Winning one miserable game in the last two years... it's like they're trying to claw the bottom out of the barrel. Meanwhile the Pittsburgh Steelers (the Patriots' closest contender for snore-inducing division dominance) continue doing their thing... with their second string.

Between their lackluster performance against my Raiders last week and getting shut out by the friggin' moribund 2017 Cowboys, I think the Eagles are in a bad way rolling into the postseason. After watching Carr go down last year, I can sympathize with Philly fans... but also, you know, to hell with the Eagles.

The Patriots looked like hot garbage compared to their usual standards and still utterly pulverized the Jets.

Chicago got stomped by the Vikings... which is about as surprising as a sunrise.

Detroit utterly mauled Green Bay. After Green Bay's long period of divisional dominance, I won't lie, it was fun seeing Detroit make 'em bleed.

Both the Rams and the Seahawks managed to lose today- the difference being, the Rams were safe and playing for nothing against a 49ers squad that's really come to life in the past month, whereas the Seahawks blundered against the Cardinals.

By both losing today, Carolina and New Orleans end the regular season with identical win/loss records. That'll be fun.

My beloved Raiders end the disappointing (especially compared to inflated preseason expectations) year with a lawn dart performance against the Chargers. Of all people. So we're back on the coach search carousel. Not sure how I feel about that. And the worst of it is, this year, 6-10 isn't even THAT awful a record.

Just ask the Broncos. NEXT!

Buffalo squeaks into the postseason thanks to a combination of being able to drub Miami and Baltimore managing to lose to Cincinnati. So that was kinda neat, but too Rube Goldberg to properly enjoy in real time. And, you know, it causes one to look with sympathy upon the other 9-7 AFC teams who DON'T get to go to the postseason.

75% of the NFC South will be playing int he postseason. Yowza.

Jags vs Titans, Colts vs. Texans, Washington vs. New York: And almost nobody cared.
