Need good DM assist program

General Discussion (Prerelease)

Okay, I've trying a bunch of free trials, and I'm still looking for a good DM assisting program that works with Pathfinder. Either a program that has a Pathfinder patch available, or something that's easy to modify. Any suggestions?

I think that next version of PcGen should support PathFinder ( 5.16) .. i really need it !!!

Scarab Sages

We're going to be adding support to RPGXplorer as soon as is humanly possible.

I have seen the RPGXplorer, and although I like it as a character creater/tracker/database, it falls painfully short in the category for which I most want such a program; i.e. tracking combat.

Maybe it would be beneficial if you detailed out what you're looking for?

Definitely need something that can keep track of initiatve, monster hp, and attacks available to the monsters I'm running. I'm more flexible on the matter of whether or not the application can keep track of AC, saves, etc. and whether or not it rolls dice for me.

PS For you proponents of RPGXplorer out there, I'm pretty sure I'm going to be buying the full product. I do like it for what it CAN do, even if it doesn't do everything I'd hoped.

And for those of you NOT familiar with RPGXplorer, I recommend you check it out.

Couldn't that be done pretty easily in just a spreadsheet? You could have catagories of:

Name, Initiative, Max HP, Damage, Attacks

You could then have a cell for each attack form that the critter has and when they use it that round change the cell color. You could easily sort the entire field by initiative once you know the players and monsters initiative to easily know who goes when. If someone delays you can just change their initiative and re-sort. The damage cell could be a simple formula where you add up damage and subtract healing (=15+30-10). If you really wanted to you could have columns for things like AC and saves that you could modify as a formula just like damage. I also know that openoffice has a random number generator that you could use to "roll" 50d6 in about 10 seconds.

My program, DM's Familiar, does all of the combat tracking you are looking for. Since it's rules-lite, it handles Pathfinder with no problem. There's even a couple datasets available for Paizo adventures with more to come. And it's available from the Paizo store (both the free demo and to purchase).

I COULD use a spreadsheet, but that would require more time, effort, and thought than I actually want to put into it. I have been fooling around with some stuff, but I'm looking for something where someone's already done the work.

There's also been an announcement from HeroLabs that a Pathfinder dataset is in the works as well.
