As the annual Swallowtail Festival begins in the small town of Sandpoint merchants from all sorts of lands begin to set up their stalls. The slight breeze reminds the many locals gathered in the church square that autumn has begun. Among the many locals are some adventurers of a sort: Ivo, a tricky halfling who loves to travel; Felwyst, a parentless spellcaster who is apprenticed to Gorant the Blue; Muchorak, or "Windstriker", the Shoanti ranger of the Cinderlands; Ali, a strange gnome, who has no recollection of home; and a hooded figure, probably a cleric by the garments. All five hear the opening speeches given by Mayor Deverin, Sheriff Hemlock, Cydrak Drokkus, owner of the local theatre, and Father Zanthus. All five are present at noon for the telling of Desna's infamous story about how she fell to earth and in return for aid given by a blind child, she transformed her into an immortal butterfly. All five are there when the hundreds of swallowtail butterflies are released into the air. All five hear the sharp retort, like the crack of thunder, that slices through the excited crowd, as Father Zanthus calls attention to the center podium. This is where our story begins...
As a stray dog that has crawled under a nearby wagon to sleep starts awake, and the buzz of two dozen conversations quickly hushes as all heads turn toward the center podium, where a beaming Father Zanthus has taken the stage. He clears his throat, takes a deep breath to speak, and suddenly a woman's scream slices through the air. A few moments later, another scream rises, and then another. Beyond them, a sudden surge of strange voices rises: high-pitched, tittering shrieks that sound not quite human. The crowd parts and something low to the ground races by, giggling with disturbing glee as the stray dog gives a pained yelp and then collapses with a gurgle, its throat cut open from ear to ear. As blood pools around its head, the raucous sound of a strange song begins, chanted from shrill, scratchy voices.
Alright, let's have some Spot checks!
Alisebett |
Boy, it's sure been a looooong time since I brought these Real Live dice out! Hope they still work! lol
DM
Here goes the rolls. Be kind to me dice, I've missed you. Sorry but this is an emotional moment for me! lol
Spot check:17 (D20=13+4)
(and in case necessary)
Initiative check:11 (D20=4+7)
Ali is furious but is somewhat distracted by the site and smell of the poor little pup's blood
PS Joey do you want us to show details of the rolls or just the number?
Joey Lafyatis |
Muchorak, Ivo, and Ali all see the tiny scurrying figure, and recognize it as a goblin. After the goblin finishes killing the dog, it jumps out from under a cart, and all around, what seems like hundreds of goblins pop into the square. Before you can react three goblins approach your group, wielding daggers. Thier faces sport disturbing grins as they cackle.
Muchorak, Ivo, and Ali, you can all react in the surprise round, and you will go first. Then we will procede to normal combat (if nessecary)
After surprise round:
Felwyst
Ivo
Ali
Goblins
Muchorak
Badru
(next time I will ask for init. sorry I used Spot for those who didn't post)
Muchorak "Windstriker" |
Init (D20= 12+3= 15)
Drawing his Longsword he looks to his side to the now Wolf creature, "Thorlo ech mar kow!" (For those who speak his native Shoanti "Wolf spirit this way!")
Muchorak steps forward to engage the first Goblin (Dodge against this adversary) and swings with his Longsword (D20= 11+3= 14, if that hits damage is D8= 2+2=4)
Alisebett |
The small wolf looks up to the big human with a fierce understanding in it's eyes. With a sudden burst of speed it charges and launches itself with fury at the dog killing goblin aiming to rip out it's throat...
Attack=18 (12+2(charge)+2(str)+1(Size)+1(Gob)
It's teeth close on the disgusting creature...
Dam=3 (1+2)
Yet at the last min the creature manages to save it's life by getting it's arm up to partially block her attack.
Joey Lafyatis |
As chaos begins to break out, Muchorak is the quickest react. He pulls out his longsword and stabs at the closest goblin, dealing him a crushing blow. The goblin is severly wounded, but still up. Then, the wolf, snarling, jumps forward, tearing at the dog-killing goblin with her teeth, who puts up his arms in a futile defense.
Ivo's up, and then we procede to normal initiative.
Felwyst |
I approach the fray and toss a handful of colorful sand into the air. With a quick gesture and arcane word the sand refracts the light into a rainbow.
Color Spray - Will DC: 13. If I can get both goblins in the 15 foot cone, I'll try. If it would provoke an attack of opportunity, I'll try to cast defensively and fail. If I can't get both, I'll just get one, but won't provoke.
Joey Lafyatis |
As soon as Felwyst tosses the sand into the air, a vivid clashing of color erupts. One of the two goblins is instantly knocked out, his small mind unable to cope with the bright lights. The other is simply amazed by all the wonders in this world. He remains distracted for about three seconds, before his small attention span brings him back to the battle at hand.
Muchorak "Windstriker" |
(OOC: Joey maybe you should make a post a day rule or at least every other day? Unless of course someone forecasts they will be out for a time. For example I will be without computer access on the 29th of August since I will be at Gen Con UK.)
Muchorak "Windstriker" |
(OOC: No worries, I will be heading there the night of the 28th, and gaming in two PFS games, one Friday evening and one Sat morning. But I will be coming home after the game Sat. So I will be able to post Thursday before I leave and will be back posting Saturday when I return. Friday is the only day I won't have any computer access at all. Gonna pick up the Beta there too!)
Muchorak "Windstriker" |
(Assuming Ali didn't slay the beastie and she is flanking the same creature)
Muchorak swings his Longsword at the small Goblin
(D20=9+3 +2 (Flanking)= 14 dealing D8= 5+2= 7 dmg)
Joey Lafyatis |
Muchorak's attack finishes the goblin. Around you, goblins are chasing locals, but doing more harm to themselves than the people around them. One goblin attempts to jump off a building onto a passing woman, but smashes into the ground, with a loud crack. Several goblins light a merchant's stall on fire, before noticing that several more are trapped inside. As you look around, you see Sheriff Hemlock chase a giggling goblin, who climbs the stairs of the city wall, and throws himself over the other side, before the sheriff can reach him. Behind you, you hear the beginnings of a song sung in a high, annoying voice;
"Goblins chew and goblins bite.
Goblins cut and goblins fight.
Stab the dog and cut the horse.
Goblins eat and take by force.
Goblins race and goblins jump.
Goblins slash and goblins bump.
Burn the skin and mash the head.
Goblins here and you be dead.
Chase the baby catch the pup.
Bonk the head to shut it up.
Bones be cracked, flesh be stewed.
We be goblins you be food!"
As you turn you see five more goblins, four hold torches, while the final chants the song with a whip in hand. On the last line, all four goblins yell "Food!", and run at you.
We continue initiative with the goblins
One goblin attacks each of you.
Felwyst -2 damage
Ivo -3 damage
Ali -1 damage
Muchorak - miss
Badru - miss
Badru is up, and then we go to normal init. which is
Felwyst
Ivo
Ali
Muchorak
Goblins
Badru
Alisebett |
Just to speed thing up, on her turn...
Not having any idea what a Warsinger is, (and not being the brightest candle in the menorah) she ignores the words of the big (and good smelling) man near her and instead concentrates on the wicked goblin which has attacked her.. which PC has the whip wielder attacked btw?
She rears up at it putting her paws on it's chest and trying to bite it in the face
Attack: 18 (14+3+1)
Dam: 3 (1+2)
Muchorak "Windstriker" |
Muchorak looks to the small creature that has come to him, "Nue Wee Chee Nak." (For those fluent in Shoanti 'Death awaits you here') And swings his deadly blade...
(This creature Muchorak will be using his Dodge against)
(D20= 9+3= 12, if it hits D8= 7+2= 9 dmg)
Alisebett |
Joey
Felwyst |
I assume Badru's action won't affect mine, so...
Felwyst grits his teeth in pain as he speaks and extends his hands towards the goblins... And a look of dreadful shock crosses his face as nothing happens.
Tried to cast burning hands defensively and failed. I'll adjust closer to the man with the sword, if possible.
Badru Akhensaranrae |
Sorry for not having posted!
Badru attempts to move the crowd back away from the fighting as he draws his holy symbol from beneath his robes. In a clear voice he gives a quick prayer to Iomedae asking her to bless those around him in combatting the goblins. everyone gets +1 to hit and +1 vs fear
Joey Lafyatis |
Badru's inspiration washes over the group, and while both Felwyst and Ivo miss thier opponents, Ali disfigures the goblin in front of her, and Muchorak cleaves his goblin in two.
There are four goblins left. One injured by Ali.
The goblins move from defense to offense, and attack. The whip-wielding goblin misses Ivo, but two others score hits with thier daggers.
Ali and Badru each take 1 damage (Badru's turn)
Alisebett |
On her turn Ali will snap at the calves of the Goblin she has already injured:
Attack: 18 (d20=14+3+1)
Dam: 3 (d4=1+2)
Good attack rolls, now if I can just stop rolling Ones for Damage! :P
Muchorak "Windstriker" |
If the singer is nearby Muchorak will be going after him, if he has to move past a Goblin and provoke an Attack of Opportunity, he will use his Dodge against that target, if going after the singer does not provoke an AoO his Dodge will go to the Singer. If the singer is dead, Muchorak will attack the nearest Goblin.
Attack (D20= 16+3= 19, if successful D8= 1+2= 3 dmg)
(Ali...keep those damage rolls to yourself...there spreading over here!)
Felwyst |
Again, with or without Badru.
"That's about all I have for the flash-bang stuff. I'll try to help out with this." Felwyst pulls out his bow and promptly looses an arrow into the cobblestones.
I 5 ft. adjust away again and pull my bow. Attack roll = 7. Then do a Knowledge (local) check = 19. What do I know about goblins? Is this typical behavior?
Alisebett |
(Ali...keep those damage rolls to yourself...there spreading over here!)
Sorry! :)
"That's about all I have for the flash-bang stuff. I'll try to help out with this." Felwyst pulls out his bow and promptly looses an arrow into the cobblestones.
LMAO! lol =D
PS Everyone remember Badru's +1 to hit...I forgot too :P
Badru Akhensaranrae |
are there any of the little buggers left!
Badru draws his sword and deftly swings it at the neck of the goblin in front of him attack roll 1d20+3+1=24, roll to comfirm crit 1d20+3+1=9, damage roll 1d8+3=11 removing it's head in one clean stroke! He looks around to see if there are any left. If there are none left Badru walks around seeing to the injured.
Joey Lafyatis |
Badru's assault quickly turns the way things are going. He demolishes the goblin in front of him, and though Felwyst and Ivo miss, Ali and Muchorak manage to deal damage to the other goblins, Ali finishing off the goblin in front of her, and Muchorak damaging the singing goblin.
Felwyst:
The goblins turn to attack. The two left attack Felwyst and Ivo. The whip-weilding goblin angrily turns on Muchorak, and tries to whip is knees in half.
... they all miss
Alisebett |
Joey:
Ali growls and moves to flank and attack whatever goblins may be left. She will, if she can, try and help the big human first:
Attack: 17 +2 if flanked(12+3+1+1 (+2))
Dam:6 (3+3)
Joey Lafyatis |
Alright, (correct Ali) You finish off the rest of the goblins. Ivo's "lucky strike" cuts one goblin to bits, while Ali tears apart another. The raid on Sandpoint seems almost over when you hear a cry from the north gate. From where you are, you can all see a group of goblins, one riding some sort of animal, crowding around the source of yells.
Alisebett |
At the sight of more goblins, Ali growls her hatred of them deep in her throat. She looks up at the Big Human to see if looks to follow then she growls again and sprints into the pack of them.
Muchorak "Windstriker" |
Muchorak looks to the Wolf Spirit next to him and grins, "CHA MEE-KYTH NUE ETCH YEE!" (For those fluent in Shoanti 'The Wind brings death and so I come!')
Muchorak flicks his wrist while snapping out his arm flinging the Goblin blood from his blade and charges forth to the Riding Goblin.
Muchorak will use his Dodge against the Riding Goblin.
(D20= 15+3+1(blessing) +2(charge)= 21, if it hits D8= 6+2= 8 dmg)
