Watchmen

Movies

Anybody else see the Watchmen trailer at the movies yet? I saw it last night before The Dark Knight.

I have to admit that the trailer looked very cool, but I feel like this is an impossible task. The graphic novel is just too much for a 2-3 hour movie to handle.

I hope it doesn't end up as bad as the other Alan Moore translations. . .

Liberty's Edge

I saw it and I thought it looked great. However, like many others, I do worry that it won't translate into the media of film. Having seen the trailer, I am cautiously optimistic about it. Good grief. It couldn't be any worse than The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. (Knock on wood)

But having read and re read the Watchmen comic a million times, it was so much fun to see shots from the comic, faithfully and successfully portrayed in the movie. Like the outline when Dr. Manhattan is zapped. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was not awful, it was not the comic, but it was fun in a mindless popcorn sort of way. I have not seen all of V for Vendetta, (when you have small child, it's hard to make time for movies) but what I saw looked good.
They even kept the fricken clock on Mars!

Just give me a month with no comic book (or "graphic novel") movies.
That's all I ask.
One month.

I think August is clear for ya.

Thank you! There is hope!
And if they'd hold off on old movie remakes and old TV show movie adaptations as well... oh, wait. There would be no movies then.

I respectively disagree but to each his own. I have taken a lot of crap over the years from friends and family for liking Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man.

I'd like a break from the teen horror/torture porn crap that comes out in droves frankly.

Some people just don't get the subtleties of some movies. I've been trying to convince members of my English Department that "Dude, Where's My Car?" is, structurally speaking, a work of literary genius ... but they all seem to have their heads too far up James Joyce's butt.

Don't worry. Soon, they'll actually be snuff films! :-D

And in the U.S., they'll be rated PG-13 (on the other hand, a split-second flash of a woman in a bikini will soon qualify for an NC-17 rating, I think).
