Suddenly the walls come crashing down in several places at once as eight skeletons step out of their hiding places and go at you with ancient scimitars.

They go on 16 so Roylenna is ahead. Since both you and the skeletons are spread out across the room, I think I'll manage this without a battle map. But I'm working on a way of posting maps. Please be patient.

Roylenna, then the skeletons.

Can Roylenna catch multiple bone-men in a 15' cone? She'd like to use a Burning Hands to full effect, preferably before retreating behind someone with a sword and armor. ;-)
Let's say two, and then you can run and hide. :-)

Nah, I like more impact with my spells.

"Ka'kara, be ready!" Roylenna will move five feet back from the skeletons and begin to cast her Enlarge Person spell on the barbarian woman. 5' because I remembered that it is a full round to cast this particular spell. And I don't think she would have been in front, anyway, despite the generosity of the initiative roll.

Petra Channel energy Save DC: 14

Crumble foul creatures!

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The skeletons close in on you, slashing as they go. Sandros is hit for 4 points, Ka'kara for 6, Petra for 6 and Roylenna for 5. Mahaffy and Felicia manage to dodge them.

Your turn. Do your worst.

Female Human Barbarian 7
Black Tom wrote:
Ka'kara for 6

Uh-oh, now you did it.

The giantess Ka'kara enrages and strikes at the puny skeletons, "These should be no problen compared to that bear."

First swing: 1d20+10=17, 2d8+10=21

Cleave: 1d20+10=17, 2d8+10=22

Possible attack of opportunity for the skeletons approaching a giant Ka'kara with 10' reach:1d20+10=12, 2d6+9=15 Eh, guess it didn't matter anyway.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Note that the casting time for Enlarge Person has been changed to 1 round, which means that Roylenna needs to make a concentration check and the spell takes effect the next round. That said, you will still swat the skeletons.

Ka'kara unleashes her fury, sending bones and scimitars clattering and destroying two of the attacking skeletons.

Hmm... Not sure I like being put in the front of the party based on a lucky initiative roll. Oh, well. New rules for Concentration checks are d20 + caster level + spellcasting ability, correct?

Concentration check 1d20+ (SOR3) 3+ (CHA17) 3=21

I hope that makes it.

Roylenna Brenoien wrote:

The DC for concentration checks to hold on to a spell after damage is 10 + spell level + damage taken, so you should be fine.

Sandros hisses in pain as he feels the skeleton's blade strike him, but he replies in kind, thrusting his rapier toward the thing's empty eye sockets.

Rapier attack with Power Attack (1d20+7=23, 1d6+4=5)

Ugh. Minimum damage. No way that got through the DR...

[ooc]It's not so much that as that you're not exactly in formation, and there were eight skeletons and they were coming from all directions. Also casting a spell as a full-round action only allows a 5' step so there isn't much room to maneuver. I had one skeleton attack each character and had the extra two go for Sandros and Ka'kara who I assumed were posted near the ends of the room. Initiative didn't really come into it.

Roylenna grits her teeth as a rusty scimitar grazes her and manages to complete her spell, growing Ka'kara to a fearsome size. Sandros's rapier punctures is sadly ineffective against these fleshless foes.

You can post your next action too if you like.

Female Halfling Swashbuckler 6

Felicia Draws her slingstaff with onehand whilst at the same time drawing a harmonica and starting to play a very upbeat tune with the other

Inspire courage on everyone

Female Human Barbarian 7

Ok, next action posted

Using her reach to her advantage Ka'kara attempts to swat the walking skeletal remains off of her battle sisters as men tend to get overly touchy when they get too much help from a woman. As the bone shards explode from the blow and shower the halflings she gets a sheepish grin, "Sorry."

First strike: 1d20+10=27, 2d8+10=19

Cleave: 1d20+10=17, 2d8+10=19

Please ignore the whining of the sorcerer, they are so touchy about melee... and her player was visualizing the situation incorrectly.

Round Two action:

"Wow! Nice hit, Ka'kara!" Roylenna moves into a square adjacent to the barbarian and flings a small orb of fluid at another skeleton, causing it to smoke and sizzle.

Acid Splash 1d20+4=15 touch attack, 1d3+1=4 acid damage

Petra draws her Morningstar. If she can flank she will do so, be it by a 5 ft step or remaining in the same spot. Girl Power

Let's see if I too can crush them bones, la la la la la la la.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Note that Petra has only had the opportunity to channel once in this fight, since you posted out of turn before. Which do you choose, healing or crumbling?

I like la la la la la la la and moringstar so I choose Healing

Sorry for the confusion. I should have added: on her turn petra will ...

Male Dwarf Rogue 5

Time to use the new axe ! Attack 13 + Bonus ? Damage 10 + Bonus
I forget if 'inspire courage' os a bonus to hit or damage or both...
If this´finishes my skeleton , I'll move to aid Felicia

Should be to both for +1 to attack and damage

"Let's make another stab at this," Sandros murmurs, trying again to find something vital within the skeleton's frame.

Rapier attack with Power Attack and inspire courage (1d20+8=20, damage 1d6+5=7)

Well, it's not quite minimum damage... (sigh)

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Sorry, I messed up initiatives here.

A surge of soothing calm washes over you and you are all healed 4 points. With Felicia's urging, Mahaffy scores a mighty blow, but the skeleton gets up its shield in the last minute.

The remaining skeletons strike back, wounding Sandros for 3 points. Ka'kara moves in and crushes two more, while Sandros finishes off the one weakened by Roylenna's acid.

Petra, Felicia and Mahaffy are up. Three skeletons standing.

Female Halfling Swashbuckler 6

Felicia continues playing the harmonica, takes a five foot step back, Draws her Sling staff and lets fly at the nearest Skeleton

Petra hits the skeleton and sings a happy song Everybody happy, la la la!

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Felicia's slingstone breaks a long-dead skull, and Petra's mace tears through an ancient rib-cage.

Make that one skeleton standing. Mahaffy is up.

Female Human Barbarian 7

I know Mahaffy's up but if he and whoever else goes before Ka'kara miss than...

Not wanting to steal the kill Sandros has been working so hard on Ka'kara lets her rage drop and takes a off-handed lazy fatigued swat at the thing. She, however, misjudges completely because of her size and instead of her swing falling just short it catches the skeleton squarely. Bone shards rain down again and she lets out a little surprised with a chagrined grimace, "Oops"

Fatigued strike: 1d20+7=25, 2d8+6=18

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The skeleton takes one last swing and then collapses under Ka'kara's lunge. As the bones clatter to the floor you look at each other, panting.

A quick search of the shallow graves that the skeleton rose from yields a gold vase inscribed with dragons (value 120 gp) and not much else. You can't find any more secret doors and there are no visible exits.

You each get 200 xp for this battle.

Where do you want to go next? Here is a primitive map of the areas you have explored so far.

Female Halfling Swashbuckler 6

Roughly where on the map are we?

Felicia stops playing her instrument and turns to Petra "Hey you have a pretty good singing voice have you ever thought about taking lessons?"

Felicia Leadium wrote:

You're in 2-40, on the upper right.

Female Human Barbarian 7

Are there any other exits or does the room continue? I can't tell from the map. If it does continue she will look there.

Ka'kara's face brightens into one of her usual grins, "See! Told you they wouldn't be much trouble compared to that bear." She begins to stroll further into the chamber with her sword resting easily on her shoulder.

Ka'kara Furyheart wrote:

No, as I just said there are no other exits. The room ends just after the map does.

Female Halfling Swashbuckler 6

"Head back and try the opposite door? Or maybe follow those Gnolls?"

"Let's try the other direction," Sandros says thoughtfully, "before we put ourselves into a position that is likely to require conflict."

Female Halfling Swashbuckler 6

"So opposite door then?"

Female Human Barbarian 7
Black Tom wrote:

No, lets take the other exit from the room with the skeletons.......J/K! Sorry, missed the no other exits part...

Ka'kara shrugs, "Sure, as good as anyway I would guess." She starts to head the direction of the door opposite the skeleton area. We'll see if Mahaffy is fast enough to cut her off...

EDIT: BTW, thanks for the map :)

No. I don't sing that often, but I really felt inspired by your performance and by the situation at hand. I usually only sing when I drink. Speaking of drinking, has anyone any wine?

Oh, almost forget. How hurt are we? Anyone need healing?

Male Dwarf Rogue 5

"Let me check the room first , these skeletons must have been here for a reason "
Ignoring Ka´kara´s fidgeting , mahaffy will take his time to check for secret doors in the alcoves and in the far end of the room .

I think Tom said we'd already looked and come up empty.

Sandros Highmount wrote:

Yep, knowing Mahaffy I did.

By the way, the door opposite doesn't seem to be trapped, but it does seem to be barred from the inside.

Female Human Barbarian 7

The giantess Ka'kara smirks at the barred door and unlimbers the portable ram. Looking towards Sandros she says, "Want to help me with this?"

First try (+4 str, +2 str rage, +1 str enlarge, +3 strength surge rage power, +4 size large, +2 str portable ram, +2 assistance portable ram): 1d20+16=17
Second try: 1d20+16=25
Actually, those should be 19 and 27, respectively. It's +18 not +16.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The door breaks on the second try, and opens up into a small chamber, littered with broken and dilapitated small-size furniture, as well as shards of broken pottery, glass and bits of broken leather armor. There are some graffiti in goblin scrawled upon the walls.

There are two openings that seem to lead to other chambers, also littered with debris, one to the left and one to the right.

Female Human Barbarian 7

Ka'kara wrinkles her nose in distaste, "I hate goblins." After looking around the room for a minute to see if it has been recently occupied she glances at the exits, "Let's go left."

Survival to determine if room recently occupied: 1d20+5=7 Nothing to see here apparently.

Sandros nods and moves toward the left opening, weapon at the ready.

Male Dwarf Rogue 5

Wait ! let me check for traps first
[ooc] yes, it's a leitmotiv. Normally, the first time I'll forget , the trap will maim/kill one of us [Ooc]

Not really, since you have the trapspotter talent. But it does mean that you'll have to be in the front.

Sandros, Ka'kara and Mahaffy can make a Perception check.

Male Dwarf Rogue 5

Yes but there is a difference beetween rolling a d20 and taking 20 which is what Mahaffy does usually

Perception 24

If you are going to take 20 searching every room we're going to have a problem. Not to mention that your barbarian friend will have explored half the next level by the time you are done.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

As Ka'kara rounds the corner, suddenly a man jumps out. He is gray-skinned and emaciated and dressed in rags, and there is an eerie red glow in his eyes. As the surprised barbarian instinctively parries his attack, she still can feel his fingers clutching at her throat and sapping her very life. She takes 5 damage and suffers a negative level.

Now for initiatives. The wight goes on 20. Mwahaha!
