The retro RPGs on DS make me happy

Final Fantasy IV in a much-hyped update coming on July 22nd.

Dragon Quest IV, also polished but not so heavily modified, coming in September.

Both are, to me, the "retro" high points of the respective series.

Hot dang, of all the systems I've owned and loved over the years, the DS is the best investment.

I'm finding that myself...plus the DS's portability makes me giddy, and the battery life on it is pretty amazing too.

Let's not forget Chrono Trigger DS! I gotta say, I'm most excited about that. Though FFIV will be fun too, but I would be SO happy for a FFVI remake. Which leads me to believe we won't see one... ;)

There's also a Corel Painter program for the DS for digital painting on the fly. You're kind of stuck on the dimensions, but you can upload it to your computer when you're done.

On the one hand, it's tempting to check out the DS for the retro updates. But on the other hand, you can get them pretty cheap as Playstation games if you aren't too worried about the graphics.

When my daughter wakes from her nap, it's off to the stores to get my copy of FF IV on DS! Really glad that I already have everything set out and ready to go for this week's Curse of the Crimson Throne game....

It's out today?! Nice!

Let us know what you think about it!

I wish somebody would port The Bard's Tale or Wasteland over to the DS.

Can't speak for The Bard's Tale (since I've never played it), but apparently Wasteland is coming back! Wasteland's producer Brian Fargo bought the rights for the game from EA recently and announced that something will be upcoming. Whether it's for DS or not, or actually a true sequel to Wasteland, we won't know for a little while, at least.

But still. Hopeful news!

(And a DS remake would indeed be great!)

Well....

FF IV on DS wasn't in stock in any of the five local stores I visited today; something about a "weather delay" in it getting shipped here to West Michigan. Geeze. I had a full meal at suppertime and will sleep in a comfy bed under a sturdy roof, but still, can't help but be bummed after months of anticipation.

Boo! That sucks! Hopefully they get a copy in soon!

I was reading some people's play experiences with it... Apparently, it's very difficult. They bumped up the difficulty for this game. And the voice acting is actually... good. A shocker for a JRPG, to be sure! Frankly, I'm thinking about getting this now, even though I bought the GBA version not too long ago...

Hoorah, I snagged a copy from Buy More* today, and after my kiddo went to bed, even managed some playtime! Yes, it's certainly more difficult than any of the three previous versions I've owned and played through (SNES, PlayStation, GBA). I had to head back to Baron after some freaky moths in the Mist Cave blinded me... and I realized the status effect stuck after battle and I had no more Eyedrops.

We'll see how things go on Mount Fabul. I remember that being a bit dicey before, but now it promises to be a true challenge to complete that part of Cecil's destiny.

Fine voice acting--though I am taken aback by SESS-ill rather than SEE-sill, the latter being the pronunciation I've used for a couple of decades or so. I wonder how "Golbez" is truly pronounced!

*I miss "Chuck."

Update? How's the game coming along? Still enamored with it?

I was really surprised by the VA for Kain. So deep-voiced! I really should get back to playing through it. FFT: War of the Lions has been distracting me. I really like how they reworked Namingway into a side quest type thing.

Also, Nameless, you do know there was FFVI on the GBA, right? With a whole new dungeon to explore? It's not shiny polygons and voice-acting, but it will tide me over until a DS version is released. I swear, I've bought these games more times than is healthy...
