Paizo Customer Tag?

Just a thought, I often feel left out because although I buy Paizo products (from my FLGS and the Paizo Store), I don't subscribe because I live in Canada and it is cheaper to get the AP at a brick-and-mortar.

Also, I know it is in bad taste on their part, but it has come up where some people have mentioned non-subrscribers posting to the boards as somewhat...less valuable, shall I say?

Anyway, to the good folks at Paizo, is there some way to give those who buy something from Paizo (even just the online store) a "Paizo Customer" tag, or something of the ilk?

Thanks for reading!

EDIT: Why is it that sometimes a new thread does not show up, but when I repost, both the new one and the old post show up? Not sure if this is related to the post-eating bug, but thought I should point it out anyway.

I read these forums a lot and I can tell you that I've never seen such an attitude

I saw it recently in a thread. It was meant dismissively at a negative poster, but it was in bad taste towards anyone with no tags. Kindly, the poster seemed to edit his post, but others noticed it as well.

I'm not so much griping about that, I just think it would be cool (but not necessary, I'm not going to quit if it doesn't happen) if Paizo recognized all of their customers.

I think that post may have been mine, and it didn't come out right, so I just want to offer a quick explanation, in spoilery text so as not to bog down this thread in any tangential debate. Let me say that I do not view the posts of those with non-subscriber tags as any less valuable than those with subscriber tags.

Spoiler:

But what pisses me off is when we get a 4e troll in these forums that is not a subscriber and only posts in the 4e section (and no where else). Razz was a good example and there are others. It's particularly annoying to see in someone that is stridently against 4e - I'm supporting Paizo, which makes the product that stands the best chance of competing with 4e, and yet I still play 4e. I get sick of the freeloading trolls that aren't helping support Paizo and just come here to piss on anyone that likes 4e, including people like me who are actively supporting Paizo. I hope that helps, and I apologize if you read my post and thought I was trying to say all non-subscribers have less valuable opinions. Nothing could be further from the truth, and I should have taken greater care in the original post to express myself better.

My intent was to single out the trolls who don't add anything except bile to the community, don't support Paizo, and are generally a blight, not pass judgment on the many non-subscribers who participate positively in the Paizo community.

You can only easily prove the online purchases, which are obviously in paizo's db already.

And agreed. Badges are cool, but nobody should hold it against folks that don't have them attached to their avatars.

I agree with Sebastian here. I realize I don't have any subscriber tags, but I'm a faithful purchaser of Paizo products from my "local" online gaming store Hieroglyphs Books. And yet, I also like 4e. So I can understand the distaste someone could feel towards a flaming poster who only spews bile and rage, but doesn't put his money where that unbrushed maw of a mouth is. Purchasers of products, rather than just 'fans' of products are what make a business successful.

Although I guess no one can really tell if you are a Paizo supporter without the tags. I'll never get one, for instance, unless they release a fantastic product that Hieroglyphs doesn't get in stock.

Maybe have a self-selecting "Paizo Buyer" or "Paizo Supporter" or somesuch as an optional tag that can appear in a preferences screen for those that do not have any subscriber tags.

Good idea!

WARNING: Long Post Ahead!

Hey Sebastian, very cool of you to reply, and even apologize for something when even I didn't think you needed to. It was indeed your edited post that upset me a bit. EDIT: Upset is the wrong word...made me concerned for the aura surrounding the boards. I know others also responded, and I only read your OP in a quote. I wasn't angry at you or anything, nor did I think less of you.

That said, I do get a decent vibe from you and I figured you withdrew your statement for the reasons you mention (also, because I haven't had any problems with you specifically, I didn't want to mention you originally or single you out, so that's why I went with "some".)

Now knowing for sure that your post was intended for specific people I feel a lot better. But your post made me think that if you thought that even for an instant, there might be underlying feelings of hostility elsewhere on the boards. Not an insecurity thing, but just a concern for everyone.

In conclusion, I would still like to advocate the tag. Sebastian's post didn't really motivate the request, it just made me aware of something that I hadn't really noticed too much before.

Of course, when someone like Kruelaid comes in with a billion tags, it makes me feel insecure about my devotion! ;)

It makes those who did "put their money where their mouth is" feel a little special about supporting this here company. I don't know how they can do it for those who go totally brick-and-mortar or buy from other online sources...but it is just a suggestion at this point. I figure it could at least start with the online buyers, since that is most likely the majority of buyers who also use the boards.

Side Note: Since I was able to backorder Pathfinder #2, I went to my FLGS and picked up #1. Then to their other location soon to get 3-6! I'm so broke!

Sorry, I should have more clear in regards to purchases made from your FLGS. But hey, if there is a way to track any other Paizo purchases online, sure, why not have a title.

I offend enough people intentionally, I don't want to go offending a large segment unintentionally. ;-) Thanks for giving me the opportunity to apologize - I felt bad that that post came out and went so badly so quickly and didn't want to dig up a flaming thread that had fallen out of the top 10 just to apologize for a post I had already cut back.

I honestly don't notice the tags for the most part. My assumption is that anyone that posts here is a fan (or potential fan) of Paizo and that's good enough for me. The only reason I even thought of it was because I take a lot of grief supporting 4e and I realized how often I take that grief from people who aren't even supporting Paizo, and it irritated me.

So, my only comment regarding the tag would be that it is somewhat superfluous - just about everyone that posts here is a Paizo supporter. I think the best way to show your status is to post about their products and participate in those discussions. It's something I should do more of myself. Less angry name-calling and more substantive posting would do myself and this site good.

Just change your board alias to reflect your slavish devotion to all that is Pathfinder.

Anyone who judges your commentary entirely on which tags you do/do not have is just fooling himself. What you buy has nothing to do with how insightful your commentary may or may not be.

For those who are familiar with the system, this situation is similar to how the XBox Live points system works. By completing tasks in games, you get a certain amount of points, which are added onto your profile that everyone can see. And, just like in this situation, you'll have some jerks (not you, Sebastian, I think you defended your point pretty well, there), who will judge you on it. People in games on XBox Live will say stupid stuff like: "Don't listen to him, he doesn't even have 10,000 points," or other juvenile things.

We're lucky here on the Paizo boards that that doesn't actually come up because the community is awesome and everyone's generally pretty polite. But if it ever does come up, just ignore said poster. He's more the fool for judging you by your tags, in the end.

PS: Having said that, I did feel kinda sad when I lost my Charter tag when I had to drop my subscription for a few weeks. :)
