Oh, and two of the other players were a couple of nice guys I met at the con, named Robin and Pete.
Oh my freakin' nonspecific deity! Talk about intimidating... but it was fun and enjoyable.
How long into the game before you realised?
And was it only after a long tirade about (adopt Harry Enfield's 'Self-Righteous Brothers' voice...)
"Those WotC shareholders! What were they thinking, selling to Hasbro? Why, if I could just get my hands on that there goldarned razzafrazzin no-good president o'theirs, I'd go 'Oi! Adkison! NAAAAAOOOOOOO!'..."
<Robin gives nervous sideways glance>
'Pete': "Errr, that'd be me?"
<long pause>
Kirth Gersen |
Wow! Sorry guys, just found this thread as well. Been looking at the Wiki: nice job, Paladin! Love it.
In response to an earlier observation, I can go back and forth from 1st to 3rd person "in character" at will, without being too uncomfortable. When writing entries journal-style under Hellard's name, using 3rd person just seemed too "Ooh! We're all writing a story!" and not game-like enough. Then again, Snorter makes a very good point. I'll be happy to switch for the sake of uniformity from here on in.
I'll be flying out to western Kansas on the 13th (this Sunday) and won't be back until the 18th. Not sure if I'll be able to post during that time. If not, and if it seems like it's gonna hold things up, one of you guys can feel free to post for me -- I've been impressed enough with everyone's stuff so far that I'm sure Hellard will be in good hands any way you look at it.

No, I'd been to a couple of seminars which Robin was hosting, and he'd mentioned in one of them ("Indie Games you must try") a game called Grey Ranks. So when someone came around to the table I was at the next night and said "Would anyone like to play a game of Grey Ranks?" I whacked my hands up and said "Sure, I'll try it."
They led me to the right room, and (en route) explained that it was only going to be a small game, just Andrew (the guy who asked), and "a couple of other guys, would that be OK?" "Yeah, that's fine, I don't mind."
"Oh yeah, and they're Robin Laws and Pete Adkison..." [heart attack]
What was funny, though, is that Robin Laws calls it (WotC) "Wotsy", just like we mere mortal gamers do.

Riven Golarsson |
Paladin,
Can I get a new description of the current battlefield? Where are the civies? Are the Parliament gaurds letting them in? Where are the rest of the "heroes"?
This issues determine what Riven will do. He is trying fot the Valiant Hero type and saving the weak. So if the people are being let in...well he isn't about to abandon them.
So if you could please...then I will post my actions.
Cheers!

Your wish is, as ever, my... no, wait, failed my check.
Here you go. 2nd map.

Phew! Posted, after a long period of unreliable Internet access at work!
Hope it's graphic enough for you! LOL
This is a lot of fun; I wondered, when we started, and especially when we were told that it would be more free-form, that we'd end up with a bunch of super-heroic Mary Sues, but we all seem to have come up with some really flawed heroic losers!
Another brain-exercise for you all. How do you think we sound?
Whenever I read Riven's dialogue, I hear it in the voice of Skwisgaar Skwigelf...anyone else have any suggestions?

"eeeeeewww! I have zombie brains in my hair." says Darius in the voice of the kid that was perpetually locked in the trunk of speed racers car. jk!

I think Pariah would sound like Jessica Rabbit.

Glad to be of service.
If it's any help, I'm loving this too. Your characters will get a chance to 'meet and greet' pretty soon (after this encounter), and get a few words in without using the words "pulp" "brains" "insane" or "splat-pow-kablooey". I hope.
Hellard Byzenkampf |
By the way; who is this 'Kirth Gersen' character, who has appeared in the town square? And what has he done with Well'Ard? TIP OF THE DAY: check your ID when posting, kids!
Hellard glares at the sacreligious priest, who would deign tell the gods that control them all their business. Then again, even the gods may become forgetful from time to time, especially those who have never before used avatars such as these.

...You were snorting Nurgle Plague Marines? What kind of creepy players have I got here? Gee, that would be pretty gross.
...Oh wait, you were sorting, no N. Oops.

I picked a new picture for Darius. Thought it made him look more like a 17 year old kid.
I like it too... and now the Wiki has been updated with the new pic as well.

They're always adding new ones; at least once a month, maybe more, depending on how many products they can clip art from.
It's worth checking occasionally, and setting the search by date, rather than popularity. All the recent ones will be at the beginning.
I see Durendal has changed twice since we began; he was the King of the Beggars from Korvosa, then a 'Gandalf', now some long-faced chap.

Wow! Heh, I guess Riven's got his work cut out for him. Six on one zombie choppa' action!
Suddenly my lot doesn't seem so bad. Heh.
That map is now out of date too. Riven, Darius, Brother Thomas, and maybe Breyr are all up by the Parliament gates now.
Paladin
Does Darius spot anything in the crowd of commoners? I'm kinda waiting for the answer before I can post again.
Blue_eyed_paladin |
Sorry, missed that.
No, there's very little to see, given the poor visibility, the driving rain, and the crowd. Likelihood is, there wouldn't be any commonsmen capable of controlling the hordes of zombies you've seen here- only a very skilled necromancer would be capable of raising them, let alone controlling their actions and driving them towards a particular place.
Plus, necromancers that powerful tend to dress better than these people. :)
Also: given that no-one's posted in (going on) 36 hrs, I'll go ahead, if I'm skipping over people, please let me know.

Darius Cain |
Darius closes shortly behind him, hesitantly ducking in under his swing to heft the heavy axe, but shopping down another of the zombies.
That's right I will shop down, not only zombies, but any kind of undead!
*Slaps VISA down on the counter*
Charge it baby!
:)

Kirth; In another AOW thread, you said you had run a homebrew of 'Rod of Seven Parts' and 'Return to the Tomb of Horrors'.
Were these for 3.5? I was thinking of inserting some old-school references for the benefit of a grognard player, and to offset the chance that any of them have read any chapters of AOW.
Blue_eyed_paladin |
Barring any unforeseen posting floods, I'll post again about 10 hours from now.
If you want to get talking, get busy, guys!
(As a side note, I'm starting to collect personal development ideas for your characters via email. If you have any ideas or particular scenes or episode ideas you'd like for your character to be involved in, email me, or I'm getting around to emailing everyone separately with my own suggested ideas.)

I've got a fair bit of RttToH converted to 3.5; I'll be happy to share. I unfortunately never had the RoSP boxed set (or even knew about it until recently); instead, I had (years ago) made up my own adventure spanning various worlds from literature and mythology. I've converted that to 3.5e as well, and again, will be happy to share.
The Snorting Tip-sniffer |
Woo-Hoo!
That sounds great! It'll be a while before they're ready to tackle it, but it's good to know if there's any foreshadowing to insert.
I've got the box set of RoSP, and the pdf of RttToH in my cart. And that nice Mr Vaughn put a veeeery nice statblock in PF11 (no spoilers, but if you've got it, you'll know which one I mean!).

Grognard? Really? I am honoured :-)
I haven;t read any chapters and will continue to not do so. What's the point?
