This can never be allowed. You gotta tell the Player to stop, create a new character or get the Fu<k out the game and stay gone.

or a snipe shot in the head... that one of his plots brings his character ill or death... that will show them...

we began yesterday a short sesion of Rise of the Runlords

we are too many (6 or 7 players)... online... so we were scared it will problematic (only a bit confusing and slow, but we are solving those parts), my best friend made a background that is uncompromising and a bit at odds with eh heroic quest... but he is linked to my character a cleric of Iomedae that is all for heorics and help those who are down, so while antisocial and nt to helpful HE follows the flow of the game if just for the benefit of his friend...

and yeah, the GM was actually worried he would be problematic, ok ok we are just beginning but we have worked well with the other players and clicked right with how they play so i hope we it will go all smootly.

(also the DM was worried because he did a Wizard Specialist in Necromancy with Spell Focus & Greater Spell Focus in necromancy who is N but with some tendencies to evil... while my LG Cleric tries to pull him toward the side of good)

jeje ok ok in fact days before the DM asked for Heroic Profiles... almost characters who will go up a tree and bring down a cat... oh he will love or hate Jodan ofr her enthusiams in the persuit of Justice.

My suggestion? Let the guy go his own way from the party, then pull the guy in for a special "character development" session. Over the course of the evening, let him go solo in a special adventure you have planned. Get him in trouble with some very connected local folks who decide that they want him dead. Make it painfully obvious to him that he won't be able to win this battle alone. What's more, make these the sorts of fellows that he would be embarrassed by associating with, like pimps or loan sharks. End the session with him in a position where he either needs to seek out his former companions for protection or have his bones broken one by one before getting dumped in the nearest body of water wearing boulders for waterwings. At that point he should be happy to get back on track because not doing so means going one on one against these thugs, and he will probably not win that battle.

one thing is certain when i want the players to wander away io give time of the sesion to each one

when one wants to wander alone because he chossed so... well i give him very little time, focusing in the larger group of players.. they get the picture indirect pretty soon. and if not i am delighted to explain with "apples and lemons" what is happenisng.

mmm ok nice picture Darren :P
but i would try to do it in the middle of the normal session, the other players would be delighted of his misfortune after all they have suffered to him

Dark Archive

I've played borderline-bastard PCs before, but I've never tried to actualy de-rail anything or cause trouble. Hell, one of the main reasons I make evil or nasty-neutral PCs is so that I can let them develope into heroic badasses. you know, that thing, called character development?

The idea that springs to mind, if you are looking for a way to NOT kick this a55hat to the curb (And I am in no way trying to dissuade you from this. Boot to the arse, thats what I say) would be to give him a personal Jaynestown moment. something to make his character re-think his opinions and predjudices.

Tons of good ideas here, but back in my 2E DM days I had to resort to cold-blooded murder to knock one of my players in line.

He groaned, he moaned, he threw a big hissy fit. The other players rallied to my defense, and he threw such a tantrum he was asked to leave the house.

Did I single out that character for a very tough battle with the protagonist? Yes. Was it because he was disrupting the narrative and sucking the fun out of the game for everybody? Yes, yes it was.

I only came to this decision after multiple hints & warnings. I felt that he had left me no choice but to kill off his precious baby.

He didn't come back right away (and was in fact not welcome for quite awhile due to his tantrum), but when he came back he was a bit more respectful of me and of the other player's goals.

Of course when our group switched DM's he went right back to his old habits, and I nearly PK'd him, but that's another matter entirely.

You know, after reading this forum for a bit, I realized that I may have been in a PbP game with this exact guy!

He played an elf in a FFRPG 2.0 game that I ran about 7 years ago. And while I played up the elves were racist side, I thought he was just trying to RP with the easiest part of being an elf. He constantly ignored me, made comments based on no knowledge of the world, and even stopped posting for weeks at a time.

The climatic moment came when he wrote a post stating:

"I sneak out of the castle they are holding me in, sneak to the docks and board a ship when no one is looking"

I was flabbergasted, and immediately decided that I wanted him out of the game...

Then, instead, I went with it. I told him that the large family he snuck off to find was found dead, and the local elven constabulary was happy to see him back (and save them the time of finding him). He was given two choices:

1. Allow an execution

2. Join a suicidal group to clear his name.

Yes, it was heavy handed, and looking back, I may not go as over the top now as a DM... but it sure did give him the shock of his life when he realized that he wasn't a noble elf anymore.

I feel for you. Ultimately I would not bother wasting too much time on him. It seems to me you spelled things out pretty clearly about expectations of player and DM for this game. Look for new players I say. DnD is my favorite hobby. If I am not having fun with it, what is the point. DMing is a lot of work. Find players who appreciate it.

Do you live nearby? I could use an extra player in my local game. :)

Silver Crusade

Condolences on getting a bad apple in the bunch, but good on you for kicking that particular element of Our Elves Are Better down the stairs. I've never agreed with the fan backlash against the race, but I can certainly see why it's out there.

I don't know, a Suicide Squad-style adventure could be pretty awesome!

When in doubt, kick him out. I've seen this happen before. Sometimes it was a newbie who had no clue, others was someone getting to into a char (always a quick fix there lol). It cases like what you've got happening that can cause one of my, thankfully rare lol, temper flares. More often then not when I have a stern talk with them, the trouble newbies never come back and the regs clean up their act fast.

he is right, if you don' have fun with a game its not worth the trouble i know well, when my group and I grew distant (internal problems) and stopped playing (i was in no mood to DM or GM the only 2 things htye want to play) well i just stopped masering... now i moved on and am playing and mastering online :P

best decicion ever :D

cof cof

i had a character that badmouthed elves... but it was the fault of the elitist and egotist "paladin" elf of the party something has something deeply stuck up his ass...

didn't help either my char was a Half-Elf... the eld did remained him quite often he was some kind of bastard :P

Ironically the only thing i play is human, half-elf or elf
