ABQ, NM - Looking for a gaming group

Liberty's Edge

If there's anyone out there who favors taking on Pathfinder (and/or 3.5 with House Rules), d20 Modern, and/or Star Wars Saga Edition, let me know.

I'm more than willing to DM, share the role of DM, or even join a group.

I'm only available for weekend play.

As for demographics - I'm a 30 something government attorney with wife, kids, dogs and cat. Gaming is essentially my sole creative outlet from the joys of defending agency actions in employment and labor litigation.

Look forward to hearing from you.

im in albuquerque, im interested in playing in a d20 modern game or a d20 future game (like nick louges new stuff). i have a dnd game that i currently dm in, with 6 players currently. we play about once a month, but its a fun game.

what kind of d20 modern do you wish to play?

That provokes a smile.

As for your question, my flavor is a blend of Dark*Matter, Ravenloft, and Urban Arcana.

To give you a sense, I'm currently running two online d20 Modern games and another just went kaput.

In one, a player has taken his D&D Elf Dragon Disciple / Servant of Mask out of Forgotten Realms and he's now in New York City. I'm using the WotC Cormyr Adventure as a baseline. Mask knows that Cyric and Shar are up to something and he's not liking being kept out of the loop. So, my player's character is his eyes and ears. This one is strongly urban arcana.

In the second, two players are government agents inspecting some government-security espionage. Namely, a company in bed with the government is invested in necromantic work and gates. The government likes the idea of undead soldiers . . . and more so, the notion of drawing in devil and/or demonspawn. Of course, should this happen, things are bound to get out of control fast. In this campaign, the notion of magic and the supernatural was all bedtime stories until the heroes learned recently otherwise.

In the game that died, I had converted Rise of the Runelord to a d20 Modern campaign taking place along the Canadian reaches of Lake Superior. We didn't get far, so I can't say how I was going to keep the campaign rooted in Modern vs. Fantasy.

I hope that helps.

Question - by playing monthly, are you a weekend player? Have you room for another at your table?

Alternatively, have you and any others in your group an interest in stretching out to two games a month?

cool beans.

as far as playing more often, our group would love to...but, three of the players are very busy tech students in socorro, on is military, with weekend duties once a month, im free every weekend, one works food service, so has a very liquid schedual, and the other may be working the summer at the girl scout camp near jamez.

so, the once a month game is really a reality of meshing our scheduals.

we play every thrid game in socorro. this saturday, our game is in socorro. im running the haunted house from skinsaw murders in my "home brew" (using the maps of mystery from dungeon magazine)

so, as far as them being able to get together more often, not likely, but i know i am available much more often.

urban arcana sounds cool. i havent played much modern, i have always kinda been the m4 toteing soldier when i have played it.

what do you think of logue's dark matter stuff? im really excited about it.

sounds like you are doing some really cool stuff.

oh, and as far as another chair, i have six players, and at first i was running an npc, so we had seven adventurers, which tended to really screw with cr and el and stuff. so i dont think i can add another player to the mix. my cleric died, well, i killed him on purpose. so we could be down to six.

i would really like to play on the side, but i will ask the group if there are any of them that would like to play in a second game. they are a really good group, there are no power players, there are no rules lawyers (sorry, industry term, not mine). so the game is a lot of fun. and they role play, which is fun.

my last group sucked ass, i didnt really like them much to begin with, but it was a group, so i played as long as i could stand it. they were power gamers. not much role playing. and it was kill the monster, take its stuff, buy magic items. no story, they hated having to listen to the story. nothing was ever tied together. oh, and the power gamer was also a rules lawyer.

I'm into the roleplaying aspect most definitely. I really try to play the character as the character is. Definitely no metagaming. I also like controversial characters - even a character who puts a burr under another character's saddle. But that's the game.

I should add, too, that I don't adhere to the rule that you have to have a complementary party: Fighter, Rogue, Wizard, Sorcerer. If everyone wants to play a Rogue, that's fine by me. The same goes for races. I like to give my players as much freedom as I can - but that said, I've always expected players to put a lot of consideration into just who their characters are. What makes them tick? Why are they here? And pictures. A face attached to a character really does a lot to lend to just who it is we are talking about.

No offense on the rules lawyer thing. I won't say that I'm a rules lawyer, but I'm also not a "happy go lucky." I think it's important to raise questions if you don't understand how the rules come into play, and I expect the same when I DM. In the end, what's critical is that people are having fun - DM and players alike.

No one gets left behind.

Just give me a heads up if and when you (and any in your party) get a free weekend. I may need to know a little in advance as my wife also likes to make plans for me. : )

i talked to my group, and there is some interest. although, we couldnt even come up with a date to play our own game. so i dont really know whats going on. a few of the players and i are going to play dnd game day at active imagination. (this is the first one where im not working, im very excited about playing dnd game day, and it will be my first real look at 4e)

we did have a great time, i was running the haunted house from skinsaw murders.

fun fun

Hello Valegrim.

Sorry, it's been some time since I checked here. I've a couple of interested parties for a group. Didn't know if you were saying "How do," or if you were interested.

Let me know if you are interested.

Saurstalk,

I will actually be moving to Albuquerque next month and I am definately game for some D20 Modern or Star Wars Saga, although probably not until August after I buy a house and settle in at the new unit.

demographics wise, I am 30 something, military helicopter pilot with a wife, no kids dogs or cats yet. I have been an avid gamer since I was 11. If you have availability in your group please drop me a line as salcor3052@yahoo.com

Heya Obi-wan. Just sent you an e-mail in response to your own. For the record, Salcor is the other interested party. I think that we're all up for D&D/PFRPG. So, that's good. (Granted - I'll be lobbying for some of the house rules me and my online groups have been using, but that's another post!) Oh, and we also discussed the possibility of a d20 Future campaign and even a little Star Wars Saga Edition Order 66 action.

As for DMing, I'm okay doing that, but if other people want to DM, I'm also okay sharing and/or just playing.

Still, nothing's written in stone. What we as a group should consider is having some time to make sure we're all on the same page gaming to make the most of our "Poker Night with a d20."

What's key for me is game time. Sundays most likely. Saturdays perhaps. But work and home will pretty much throw me a curve ball for weekdays unless it's on my "every other Monday off." (I work 5-4-9s.)

. . . . .

Lazaro, I extend to you a welcome . . . but I'm sure the commute is a killer. However, a suggestion. I used to live in Gallup with no gaming group in a 100 mile radius. I got my gaming fix through e-mail/online campaigns. Slow moving and requiring loads of patience for players and DM alike, but it can be pulled off. (For the record, I'm still playing in 2 D&D campaigns, 2 d20 Modern campaigns, and one Star Wars Saga campaign via e-mail. Some of these campaigns have been running for three years. Not nearly as exciting as sitting around the table, but nonetheless - an option to consider.)

Im in Alb also. Im very interested in Pathfinder games. Star Wars Saga as well. Im happy to play or DM (my DMing style can throw people off a little at first though most come around and have given me excellent feedback later). Currently I work at Borders (the one on Wyoming) so my schedule is kind of floating but I can request a specific day off if necessary.

Alternately due to the floating schedule, play by posts and late night IM games work out very well for me (once ran an extremely successful Star Wars IM game for almost 2 years with 0 player turnover)so Lazaro, if youre interested in something like that maybe we can work something out.

Another Albuquerquean here. Looks like you have received a decent response. I was at the A.I. game day myself for a lil taste of 4E. I am strongly interested in Pathfinder and would be willing to fill a chair if you still have room. 36 years old and currently a house husband, so real flexible. Worked many years in management but than got laid off and pulled the ol switcheroo with the wife <grin> Loooong time D.M. and player so can fill any role. I have a long time crew I game with but we are on a break after finishing up the Savage Tide Campaign this past May.

Email me at Nyarlathotep9@aol.com.

Just sent an e-mail out to those of you interested. I'll probably be relying more on e-mail conversations, now that we've made contact. But I'll still check back in here to see whether there are more people's interested.

Must say - after a couple months of slow movement, it's nice to hear a growing interest.

Must also say that it's really interesting that it's here at Paizo that we're connecting as opposed to Active Imagination. :P

Edit: Dark - just forwarded the last e-mail to you.

was just giving a how do to all in the ABQ area :) thanks though.

what night you thinking of playing; and where? can pass the word around.

Well, how do to you, too, then. :D

Honestly, it's nice to be in a place so full of gamers. (My previous residence was Gallup. Not many there. In fact - one. Me.)

Scarab Sages

Sent you an email Uber.

Unfortunately my availability did not overlap with saurstalker's group. I was wondering if there is any interest in playing Star Wars Saga edition, or Dark Heresy on sunday afternoons? I am willing to run the either. Although to be honest I have been kind of fiending to play star wars saga (listening to the Order 66 podcast has gotten me interested).
