Curse of the Crimson Throne

Liberty's Edge

I've just skimmed the bestiary, forward and adventure of PF #8. This is one scary-looking issue. I can't wait until my print edition shows up and I can digest it in more detail, but kudos to F. Wesley Schneider; this issue's giving me those foreboding chills you get when you know something really, really bad is on the horizon, and I haven't even dug into it in depth yet. The gray maidens are eerie as hell, too.

I've gotta say, this is probably one of the best adventures I've read in years—and that's saying something, because I've always found Pathfinder and Dungeon to have pretty good stuff overall.

Seriously, I think Nicolas Logue and Richard Pett need to watch their backs. Wes is clearly disturbed.

Total agreement here. Sitting here at work reading the PDF and getting totally antsy. This issue really got me wanting to run a campaign again.

Wow! Thanks for all the kind words all! This makes all the night terrors and social paranoia I developed after weeks of plague research all worth while!

More agreement here, was infuriating when I started to read it properly and I desperately wanted to rant at someone about how cool it was, the only person available is going to be playing so I had to do it whilst being very circuitous about what was so awesome, hohum, I also freaked him out quite a bit by reading the pdf and going "Eww!" every now and then so that was fun :D. All the material adds up to something that could be really tense and atmospheric, I'm going to make sure my players remember the zombie masquerade and temple of Urgathoa for a long time :P.

I really like the way you treat disease in the adventure Wes... I've always thought poison and disease especially were mechanics that just didn't have much bite in a magical world, or at least in an adventurers world. The DC's are far too low in the majority of cases.

I just skimmed through it, and my first reaction is that is truly disgusting....

I just can't wait to get my hands on the actual book to really enjoy all the nastiness ;)

Nice job!

Maybe I'm just jaded, but after the one-two punch of Skinsaw Murders and Hook Mountain Massacre, I didn't think that the events of Seven Days to the Grave were that disgusting/disturbing/creepy.

...that isn't to say I didn't love the module, mind you. I did.

I was a player for Rise of the Rune Lords (actually still am, we just finished the 3rd book), and Massacre at Hook Mountain was beyond the pale.

Dark Archive

I just skimmed the pdf, and the adventure+plague stuff combo is just incredibly awesome. Plus the bestiary! It's really, really good.

An astounding Pathfinder issue, and as I said in another thread, CotCT is shaping up as one onf the best AP ever.

Night terrors? Social paranoia? Wow, you did research that stuff, eh?

May I suggest not reading The Stand or similar novels for a while?

I've just been reading this adventure and I think Wes is seriously sick - huzzah! This is one of the best adventures (and best looking adventures) I've seen from Paizo and I think you're right - so, unfortunately, we're going to have to have him killed...

Let me add my voice to the chorus of praise: Seven Days to the Grave is awesome. I thought Edge of Anarchy was good, but Seven Days has sold me on CotCT. I especially like the "grab bag" or "buffet" style of these adventures; a lot of encounters in different locations in the city rather than a long slog through one place. There's something for everyone and disease is now very scary, even from just looking at the effects it has on Korvosa and her people.

I gotta agree. Wes, you hit it out of the park on this one. All of my players except my wife are recently returned from Iraq, and we have seen personally the effects of large-scale disease (dysentery, in our case)on a cramped population. This adventure is going to seriously mess with some folks.

Yes, Seven Days to the Grave looks to be one of the best adventures I've read in a long time. And it builds nicely on the first adventure in the series. Curse of the Crimson Throne looks to become a truly great adventure path.
