I find moffat to be really hit or miss, sure he has some zingers under his belt, but one for one I can easily think of an as good davies one (gridlock vs Blink etc etc). I think my biggest problem with davies is that he can knock out an okay script. I mean really, sure it sucks not to have these great zinging episodes all the time, but i'd rather have solid okayness than the other characterness of moffat. Not to quibble but I watch doctor who for doctor who, not some underage mother in wwII, madam de pompedor or those two in blink. I think he may do extremely well as head however, because then he will have to put out there merely okay rather than the couple hit or miss oddballs a season.

Ok just watched the Doctor's Daughter. That was wonderful. Does create another paradox, was the Face of Boe talking about the master, or Jenny?
I would say that he was talking about the Master. Since the Face of Boe said You Are Not Alone. And the ship was YANA.
Also we found out that the Face of Boe could be Captain Jack, and I don't believe he ever met Jenny.
But this episode left with with the feeling that they are creating another spin-off.

I thought "spinoff alert" at the end of the episode also. Does anyone know if anything has been officially mentioned relating to that?

eah, i'm hoping that's not the case. Though I loved Jenny, and they could do auite a bit of her learning about the Time Lords, what the doctor knows.
I figure Boe meant the Master too, but Boe lives in linear time, and time lords don't.
It did hit me that in a way we've seen 4 sides of the compaions.
Sarah - unwillingly went back to a normal life
Rose - torn away from the doctor without warning, or consent.
Martha - willingly left and doesn't want to go back
Donna - has no intent of leaving, can't picture going back.

Hmmm. Just watched 'The Dead Forest'. Pleased to say that at least some of the things foreshadowed with the previous episode turned out to be as expected (at least for me). Slightly tenuous on other counts.
Now approaching the end-of-season run, with just four episodes left to go.
Will be interested to see how (and if) everything gets pulled together from this season.

Also just watched The Doctor’s Daughter this morning with my wife. It was watchable, but it wasn’t great. Within the first ten minutes you knew exactly what would happen throughout the entire episode, and sure enough, totally predictable, to the point of making sitting through it kind of a drag (wow, look at that...they made the girl summersault through the laser beams...that's never been done...and redone...and overdone). On the plus side, the fish-men were cute.

Agreed, that was also weak. Personally, I thought they should have left her dead (or not bother killing her at all) and made the regens a side effect of staring into "The Anus of Time."
I thought the resurrection was due to the Breath Life terraforming effect, given the CGI around her at the time. That makes even less sense than normal Whovian explanations, I grant you, but it was the impression my friends and I got from watching it.

Shouldn't she be changing into a new form when she comes back to life? I mean, she is a Time Lord after all, and that's the reason why we have so many Doctors... =/
I'm not yet sold that it was a regeneration as we know it, as opposed to a "Genesis Planet"-style resurection. Notice that she did NOT regenerate the way #9 became #10, or Derek Jacobi's Master became John Sims' Master (with all the pyrotechnics). Nor did her condition look like any of the Doctor's other regenerations which all seemed to be laden with pretty hefty and dramatic SFX. She instead exhaled some green gas and woke up. I kinda think the teraforming gas from "the source" may have restored her to life before dissipating. (EDIT IN: Blast! Paul Watson beat me to it! :P)
But that's my $0.02. I'm wondering if she'll be back for the finale, since we already know that Sarah Jane, Martha, and Cap'n Jack will all be there, and they're also
I wouldn't be too against giving her her own show either, with the one reservation that that'd be the third Doctor Who spinoff in two years (after Torchwood and the Sarah Jane Chronicles).

Well last night's episode was incredibly lame, and must have cost £20 to make. Perhaps that comments a little unfair. I guess it's just a filler episode between Steve Moffat's episodes and the series finale.
Ah no sense of culture left in this world. The closed room scenario is a classic piece of theatre and this was a reasonable example of it. That being said not everyones going to like it.

So the doctor is now officially half-human on his mother's side then?
IIRC:

Sorry dude, I when I saw your post on the episode and being as your other posts tend to be quite well thought out and intelligent on other topics I was a tad *la sigh*, if I guy like you can be quite that dismissive or unaware of a classic convention (though you did say you thought you were being unfair) then the worlds "cultural sense" is shifting. No insult really intended.

Has a new section pertaining to Frequently asked questions heard about it at doctor who forums and took a look.
Still wonder why they still won't explain about Susan though.

Thanks - hadn't seen the FAQ section. Interesting to see it get an official stamp. And the comment about purists made me laugh - known a few of those in my time, lol...

Just bearing in mind that I'm a 25-year old who tried to catch up to Dr. Who in my teens by reading the novels and watching the old black-and-white episodes (when I could get them at a local-ish library) on video, and who stopped watching after he wasn't wearing the cricket vest (except for the 1996)... how exactly is the Terminator TV series a "spinoff" of Dr. Who? Is it just because it involves time travel?

The Terminator show, mercifully, has nothing whatsoever to do with Doctor Who.

Dumb. Why would the Doctor lie to the love interest character in the 1996 movie?
My mistake, those events take place after the t.v. movie, so technically, they could both be true, but my impression was the Doctor was a clone of “The Other,” some crazy time traveling human scientist who threw himself into the Time Lord loom.

That’s OK, Indy; we’re cool.
It’s funny, but after the euphoria of taking some exams two weeks ago passed, I’ve been really low; I don’t know why. Just put it down to a bad moment.Having gone to the theatre a reasonable amount and the cinema a lot over the years, I am aware of the convention; indeed, it’s sometimes been used in soaps and comedies to critical acclaim (not that I watch soaps!).
If the episode had been shown earlier in the series, perhaps I’d have been more receptive, but it did follow two awesome Moffat episodes. The sound guys did a great job, and the acting was good. It was enjoyable to see David Troughton (Patrick’s son) in the episode; he tends to play slightly quirky characters.

Well, having had one with mostly Doctor, and little Donna (Midnight), there is a sort of balance to having the next episode mostly Donna and little Doctor.
And FINALLY that prediction from a seer/oracle in Pompeii (from earlier in the current season) about Donna having something on her back gets tied in.
Crimson Jester |
Midnight was a great episode, to bad we have to wait so long in the states to get to officially watch them. By the way I found out what happened to all the bees

First let me explain that the doctor has never, ever, regenerated the same way twice. In point of fact, no two regenerations of any Time-Lord has ever been done the same way. Secondly his "daughter" didn't regenerate at all. Like when the doctor lost his hand in the first 24 hours of his regeneration, she well just healed, they even used the regeneration special effects from previous episodes where they pointed out this "new ability" almost so they could play with it right there. What gets me is that the Master could consciously control whether he regened or not. and the funky little thing where someone (his wife maybe) stole his ring giving you a clue that he will return.
On the plus side Davros will be back at the next episode and every character from both spin offs will be on the show as well. Including every current companion from every one of the 4 season except the American guy, with the computer implant from the future. which by the way at some point I would love to see him come back just so you can see how messed up his life has been since he didn't listen to what the Doctor told him to do way back in season (Series)1.

There is another explanation. Early in the episode the show the Doctor's hand and remind the audience that he regrew it.
In the episode where he lost and regrew his hand The Doctor explained that it was because he had just regenerated and so was more resilient than normal. It is possible that his daughter being brand new healed in the same exceptional way perhaps aided by the teraforming gas. Given the number of references through out the episode this is the explanation I prefer.
Edit: If I had read all the way down to the bottom of the page I'd have seen Crimson Jester beat me to this very same point.

I'd expect to see him in a vault in Torchwood 3. That or he's leading a normal life sincce Torchwood 1) reprogrammed the trigger and b) dosed him with Retcon.

Hmmm. I suspect that the BBC will be very careful with what they allow out before the season finale airs in the UK. It should be interesting, to say the least, although I could have sworn that the seventh doctor was supposed to have taken Davros out with The Hand of Omega.
Yeah, no preview of next episode and no spoilers given away in the Confidential (well, we saw Mickey at the script read-through, so I guess he'll be in the finale, but hardly a surprise). Davros' appearance wasn't really a surprise following the previous previews (and the fact that The Sun leaked pictures of him a couple of weeks ago). But the end of the episode... yeah, really rather startled by that. After last season's finale, with the clock being turned back, I'm still suspicious as to how conclusive the outcome was, but all the same - can't wait for next week!
