I'll wait for the books. If the books end up not being published, then I will want a refund.
Question for you. At what point do you consider them "not being published"? As long as Mr. Logue comes to this thread every 6-9 months with a "still working, almost there"? When do you give up? Obviously, you have made it to 3 years....maybe after 5 years? 10 years?

Good question. If Mr. Logue should disappear for over a year with no word, I would consider that abandonment of his projects. Quite honestly I would have asked for a refund much earlier if it hadn't been for the heroic effeorts of Mr. Agresta and the other fine folks that have tried to assist in this project's diffficult birth.
Also, I cannot say how long it would take of continual promises before I gave up. As I mentioned, the money was budgeted out over two years ago. Although I want what I paid for, I still hold out hope that these two projects will be as awesome as they seem. Call me a dreamer. Perhaps if another year or two goes by without something on RC done (after all-it is pretty much complete) then I will join the others in asking for a refund.
The Anarchists Gamebook I am pretty sure won't see light of day for at least two years, if not more. I'm patient (though disappointed). Perhaps having folks waiting for it will make Mr. Logue feel obligated to complete it. Or maybe he'll realize he can't and just refund the cash anyway.
In the end, I am more disappointed that Mr Logue seeems to have abandoned the hobby. I think his writing style and grasp of 'mature' themes was a spectacular asset to the field. I hope that his projects get finished, and I do hope that he decides to remain, at least partially, as a writer in the RPG field. I understand that life can cause many unexpected delays and twists. I wish him well, though truthfully it would be a cold day in Hell before I ever preordered anything ffrom him again =P.

Me three! I want what I paid for - a hardcover PFRPG copy of Razor Coast. I didn't pay all those bucks for a freaking PDF.

Same here, I'm now pretty much turned off from pre-ordering anything from anyone except Paizo, no matter how good their previous work and reputation had been. I've asked for a refund for Razor Coast along with the two Dark Horizons books I preordered because I don't have a lot of faith that any will ever be published.

I will still give others the benefit of a doubt. I have never had a problem with Open Design, Rite Publishing, or LPJ Design. I think that the 'patronage' model of funding will become more prevalent as time progresses. In today's dicey game-accessory market(no pun intended), it helps to know in advance that a project actually has interest. Plus designers don't lounge on silk chairs being fed grapes of golden platters by servants. There's not a whole bunch of profit in the game, it's more for the love of the hobby than anything else. I like what has been emerging from the OGL 3PP market.
That being said, I'm pretty certain the good ship Sinister has sailed its final voyage. It now lies run aground and burned to the waterline, its proud lines now a tangle of rotting timbers. Hopefully we can get our salvage out of it.

Here is a question, if this had been LPJ Design who had done this instead of Sinister Adventures and Nick Logue would you be as will to be this forgiving of the whole situation?
I'd be very cautious about which of your products I'd buy in the future, and I wouldn't prepay for any of your products. I wouldn't completely stop buying your stuff, so long as I continued to be impressed by it's quality.

The money is spent for RC and the GM book. I'm not exactly hurting for money so I can afford to be patient. When it comes it comes. I may not be thrilled to have waited so long but I am willing to wait. If it doesn't get published, and by that I mean by the time Paizo puts out another version of the game, I may just ask for the refund or I'll just write it off and move on. I'd say I'd wait for the other guys to put out 5E but I keep waiting for that announcement any day now.

Not me, not so much.
When I first saw it, I thought it would fit great in my seafaring/horror game, and figured I could write it in as a segment of my campaign.
Since then, Serpent Skull was announced, came out, and I'm already onto the second adventure.
I'm pretty soured by waiting and have zero faith it will ever be out now.
Thing is, I've pre-ordered for other products recently (Targets of Opportunity, The Laundry RPG, Starblazer Adventures.) While there were mild (Laundry) to Long (SBA) delays, they eventually came through. So I was willing to be patient at first.
But looking like I didn't beat the odds this time.

Hey all,

More info as I hear it.

EDIT: Just a PS. Last I heard Nick was going through the list of pre-orders and returning money. What the speed of repayment is (how many he does a day or on the weekend or whatever he's doing), I couldn't say, but people have been getting their pre-order money back.
Is he returning all pre-order money or just those who are requesting it?
I want the book not the cash.

I got back the funds for Ebon Shroud; and still have Razor Coast and Anarchist Gamemasters Cookbook on preorder. But the website gone and still not renewed, there is no place to communicate and get updates on any issue (not that he was a great communicator anyway). All that leaves a veery bad feeling, and sometimes I even doubt that we will ever see any product.
hedgeknight |
It will be 2012 before we see the Razor Coast product, IF then. He can say what he wants, but it's not a priority for him. And I appreciate everything Lou and others have done to help out and keep us informed, but Nick has extracted himself from the gaming business and once you "drop out" mentally and physically, it's hard to get back in.

Downer prediction Hedgeknight : (
RC will come out eventually- it will be an extremely limited release and once it and maybe the Cookbook are out nothing more will be seen of Sinister Adventures.
The books will be totally awesome, extremely rare and valuable collectors items. By 2016 I will sell mine to pay off my mortgage!! bwah ha ha hah!!

You might want to check this out. :)
Very interesting...we'll see if it comes to fruition. Will check back on Friday to hear the big news. Thanks the link, EZ!

Hwa hwa.
Well, though there was a bunch of suggestive adjectives, he technically just promised a product with the intials RC. So expect Recon Cougars, a game about special forces boy-chasing MILFs at an online store near you!

LPJ's blog wrote:This project will have sinister overtone in the game world with the adventures that will be legendary on the annuals of RPGs.Does that sentence make sense to anybody? Does he mean "...legendary in the annals of RPGs"? Or, what?
Prolly.
I just skimmed through the blog article. I figured he was talking about Razor's Coast and making a lot of promises. The only promises we've gotten so far on this project is getting ass reamed by Nick who took the money and skipped town. Granted he's returned some of it...but give me a break.
I hope he doesn't return to gaming. It would just piss me off even worse than it has already. His credibility...at least with me...is zilch.

Well, alright! That's two for our game group thus far.
I tried the game and played a BTW (Bored Trophy Wife) with the Pizzaboy Seduction feat. The only thing left untouched in that kitchen was the pizza itself.
I was kind of hoping to play on the boy's side, but it was all full up when I arrived.
