Alpha Playtest Feedback General Discussion

The Exchange RPG Superstar 2010 Top 16

Take a step back, folks, and look. Look at what we're doing, and how we're doing it.

We are having civil and serious discussions about a new game system. We are talking with one another, developing consensus in some areas and articulating differences in others.

Some of us have better number-crunching skills than others. Some of us have a better vision for how rules-changes would play out over the table. some of us are dyed-in-the-wool rules-lawyers who can see potential flaws. We're all sharing in the discussion, lending our personal strengths to the mix, respecting one another's strengths, too.

As the weeks go on, and we share more of these rules with our home groups, we'll get better numbers to crunch, better ideas about role-play, and a clearer sense of where rules abuses or lopsidednesses occur.

Now, frankly, I wouldn't mind if, like the RPG Superstar contest, we had some industry professionals drop in and demonstrate how they would analyze and Develop a proposed rules change. I think that kind of modelling would elevate the discussion.

But that's a quibble. Like the folks who discussed the Superstar contest entries, we're engaging in something important and revolutionary here. We are teaching one another, learning from one another, and giving the Pathfinder rules team the best feedback we can.

It's hard for me to imagine this happening in any other game system, under the eye of any other game company.

Indeed, my whole group is boggled and impressed with Paizo's brave initiative. These are the times to remember!

It seems like right now all of those people who were frustrated over the rule changes coming with 4th edition, have channeled all of that into discussing how Pathfinder can be better.
The difference?
-4E : We have absolutely NO say about whats gonna happen.
-Pathfinder RPG : It's up to us

and thats pretty awesome!

Agreed, I found everything *Everything* from WoTC so far as being patronizing, 'We know whats good for you' Pazio on the other hand has stood up, let us know what the plan is, and invited us all to weigh in. Lets all make something awesome. (Even if it feels my comments on alpha 1 are getting no notice.)

With posts racking up like nothing, some just will be overlooked. At 800+ posts in just over 48 hours, this is to be expected. Just keep tryin´

I agree. I'm excited about this, and love reading up on the different discussions, even if I don't post in them that often.

Hooray for awesomeness! *waves flags*

There is indeed an entire forum devoted to discussing the alpha 1 release. It's got several subforums so Jason doesn't go completely insane trying to keep track of everyone's feedback.

I know, this is awesome!
I know that my own single voice is probably not enough to persaude a desired change that I might personally have... well, maybe if I show enough hard stats to back it... but to have the ability to combine my voice with others having similiar insights is a truly wonderful thing!

Another thing that I am really impressed with is the fact that Paizo is so willing to give us the rules in a sense, to allow us to play around with them and see if we like them. So far the product has been so backwards compatible that I've been able to grab my 3.0 and 3.5 books and immediately go at it. This does not mean that there will be no reason to actually buy the final product... I'd pre-order right now if it was offered... merely that we can fully see what it is all about before we have the chance to buy one day down the road... and to be allowed to playtest for ourselves.
