What about Montebuth?

Kayotic DM wrote:
Yend ~ I need some initiative rolls from you, if you could roll a few and pop them in your profile that'd be great.

I can slot you in when I have these.

Done, profile updated. Sorry for the confusion.

Male Human Martial Rogue 1

fort (1d20+1=21, 1d20+1=7)

"AAAGHHHH!!!!"

"Horrible! It's made of horrible things! Stay still so I can blast it!"

Greylan does his best to line up a shot on the thing that hopefully doesn't include Mikel. The shot fails to connect, however.

--- Initiative ---
Undead thing
Kallista
Greylan
Yend
Mikel

Kallista carefully jabs at the thing but it scurries away.

Yend and Mikel's actions and then back to the top, Mikel is currently feeling fine (save the undead icky thing attacking him)

Montebuth attempts to determine if the creature is indeed undead. If he believes so, he will attempt to turn the creature with holy power.

Knowledge (religion) = 18
Turn Check: 4 HD Max (8 HD Total)

The creature is undead and as Yend channels holy energies it attempts to flee, colliding with the wall at the back of the storage closet and cowering there.

female Human Fighter 2

Posting in advance to be slotted in as needed

Kallista hurls herself across the room and tries again. Without having to worry about decapitating Mikel, her aim is better.

Attack on undead tiny thing: (1d20 5=19, 1d8 3=8)

Greylan delays to see what the creature does. He doesn't want to risk hitting Mikel anymore.

Mikel stabs at the thing with his rapier as it continues to cower, appearing to hit it quite solidly, chipping away some bone fragments leaving it open to Kallista's attack which soundly finishes it off leaving the group in a silent storage closet.

I rolled for Mikel to move things along, sorry for the delay.

Male Human Martial Rogue 1

Ack, so sorry! My fault for not realising it was my go. Mea culpa.

Mikel gasps raggedly, "What in the name-?"

"Yuk."

female Human Fighter 2

"And that, Mikel, is why I needed a whetstone. Is there one?"

She scours the cupboard for anything remotely useful.

Search the cupboard... (1d20 1=16)

Kallista mostly turns up dust, some mouldy old building supplies and a couple of moth eaten winter blankets. She gets the impression this cupboard hasn't been used for anything save housing the undead thing for quite some time.

female Human Fighter 2

Brushing dust off her hands, she emerges from the cupboard.

"Well, it looks as if undead are definitely here at least. We've come to the right place anyway."

Male Human Martial Rogue 1

"Told you."

"I don't want to hear it! Ugh! Disgusting! Let's just get in to the main building, and finish this job before we make any more noise. I doubt these bone fragments are what we are looking for."

The storage explored in full it's on to the front door (also locked)

female Human Fighter 2

"Mikel - this one's for you." Curtsying deeply, Kallista steps aside for Mikel to take prime position at the locked door.

"Does he think he can handle a proper lock?"

Male Human Martial Rogue 1

Mikel pouts and glares at Yend, "Does he think he can handle the correct pronouns?" he says, imitating him.

He examines the lock and attempts to pick it.

Open Locks (1d20+5=19)

The door creaks open ominously revealing a large antechamber, furniture fragments, smashed planks, broken glass and other detritus litter the floor. At the west end of the room, several upended tables form a crude barricade. There is a closed door to the north.

Spot DC 16:

Spoiler:
Something is moving behind the crude barricade, you make out three shapes and more importantly three heavy crossbows.

Those who make the spot check can act in the surprise round.

If those that make the spot want to post their actions and then we'll get into round 1 after that

Male Human Martial Rogue 1

Spot (1d20+2=16)

Yes!

Male Human Martial Rogue 1

"Ah."

Mikel ducks to the side of the door and says to the others, "Get back!"

"Ah... er, hello in there! Sorry, didn't realise anyone lived here!" he says in a friendly tone loudly.

female Human Fighter 2

Spot check (1d20 1=17)

"Duck" Kallista drops behind the door and loads her crossbow.

17

"Horrible! I hate this place already.", Greylan says as he gets out of line of fire of the crossbows.

Spot: 1d20+3 = 9

"What are they talking about..."

"They're waiting for us on the other side of the door." Greylan says, fumbling through his pack for his scroll case. "I've got a scroll that can create a bit of a screen for us to get in there unmolested...now...if...I can only find the damn thing..."

Everyone, except Yend, scatters leaving the poor cleric stood in the doorway as bolts from heavy crossbows fire his way. One bolt hits solidly. 7 damage and I need a fortitude from Yend

On to round 1

Greylan manages to locate his Wall of Smoke scroll, and will ready an action to cast it when everyone else is ready.

"I have a spell that will buy us some time, but you need to be ready for it. I can place a wall of smoke in front of, or on top of, the chaps with the crossbows. When I give the signal, run in there and give them a wallop! Sound like a plan?"

female Human Fighter 2

"Works for me. Montebuth, how are you?"

She loads her crossbow.

I can no longer remember how this works, but if she's got a loaded crossbow, can she fire once then drop the bow and draw her longsword on the same turn?

Male Human Martial Rogue 1

"Sounds like a plan to me, old boy!" Mikel says cheerfully, "Whether it's a good one or not, I couldn't possible say." he adds with a grin.

"He is okay...possibly..."

Fort save: 1d20+4 = 15.

You should be able to fire [standard], drop [free], and draw [move] in one turn.

On Montebuth's turn: Casts light of lunia (sheds light as a torch) and moves to cover.

Are you enacting your plan this round or falling back to prepare and enacting it next round?

Sensing that everyone else is ready, Greylan fully unfurls his scroll, and starts reading from it. He conjures a 10x10 wall of smoke either in front of, or on top of, the crossbowmen, depending on the layout of the room, giving the others a chance to run in and smack the crossbowmen, without fear of getting shot.

female Human Fighter 2

Kallista coughs as Greylan's smoke fills the room. Squinting, she fires her crossbow at the nearest sound.

"This stuff is probably really bad for you."

Crossbow aimed at random: (1d20 2=22, 1d8 1=9)

The bolt sounds as if it's hit something. Nodding with satisfaction, she drops the crossbow and draws her sword.

You can take a move action while you draw your sword, so you could move into the room, I assume.

female Human Fighter 2

You assume right. Girl's on the rampage for hidden crossbow wielders.

Male Human Martial Rogue 1

Mikel rushes in, rapier and dagger drawn to attack the nearest foe and take away their ranged advantage. Can he get to any of them?

Mikel Cormaeril wrote:
Can he get to any of them?

Yes he can, feel free to roll an attack

Kalista & Mikel:

Spoiler:
Now you're in the room and have moved to attack you see who, or rather what, your assailants are. Through the fog you see three living skeletons.

female Human Fighter 2

"I really hope these aren't Alastor's family."

Male Human Martial Rogue 1

Rapier attack vs a skellie (1d20+4=6)

"Eek! Undead!"

Yend's turn?

Greylan Mooneye wrote:
Yend's turn?

Already posted, he couldn't act in the surprise round so he cast his spell and hid this round. But now he is glowing.

The enemies try and fail miserably to hit their targets.

Kallista & Mikel:

Spoiler:
The skeletons are two adults and one slightly shorter, perhaps a teenager.

Mikel almost vomits at the realisation.

"Kallista, you're right. It's them." he says through gritted teeth.

female Human Fighter 2

Power attack on nearest skellie (1d20 3=20, 1d8 5=9)

"Oh gods, let's end this for them." Aim made sure with disgust, Kallista attacks the nearest skeleton. "This is obscene. Who does this kind of thing?" Her expression is almost a pair with Mikel's.

As the smoke from Greylan's spell dissipates, he moves into the room and launches a blob of acid at one of the creatures. It misses, splattering across their makeshift barricade. It begins to sizzle.

"These are what we need! Our fears were confirmed!"

"Montebuth calls upon the power of infinite knowledge, behold your fates creatures of darkness!"

Turn Undead:
1d20+3 = 10 = 2 HD max
2d6+3 = 12 HD total

Kallista's attack takes a sizable chunk of bone out of one of the skeletons but it still appears to be moving. Meanwhile Mikel's attack appears to be accurate but scratches along the bone causing very little appreciable damage to his opponent.

As Yend calls down upon his divine power the skeletons shudder and turn to flee. Giving attacks of opportunity to Kallista and Mikel, then it's on to the next round.
