Speaking of who's what - that spellcasting zombie whatsit was a nice touch. Was that some home-cooked monster of yours?

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

It was a corpsecreature/level1 sorcerer from Book of Vile Darkness.
I was trying out a little "what the hell is it?" monster like Aubrey with that wolf thing.
He never got to break into the spell(s) though...besides the requisite Mage Armor buff.

Male Human 17thFighter

Harvak takes this maqahuitl(I assuming this does not count as a 450gp item because it came from Swertlowe) and the Masterwork two handed sword that looks like Black razor-however unless somebody else is interested...

Harvak donates 200gp to the Party funds for whatever supplies the party may need... the ranger takes only what is needed...He also bought 4 potions of CWM

Nice. Most of my books are back home across the sea, so the more specialised critters pass me by. Well done!

Looking over all the pbps at Paizo I have come to realize that nothing is better than DMing for DMs.

Yeah ever since Heathy "Black Razor replica" popped up, I've been kicking around this adventure in my head about White Plume Mountain, I had to go dig up the old 1e module, the 2nd Return to White Plume Mountain and the Dungeon adventure in #77 Ex Keraptis Cum Amore.

The adventure involves the old story which took place a 100 years ago(I'm not sure if there is a time line with Old Greyhawk modules and when they took place) Anyways nobody ever returned from the mountain in this version and until this day those Weapons of Legend are still there...However now a red dragon lairs within the mountain and during this 100 years the depraved gnomes of Keraptis have expanded the dungeons beneath the mountain , where they toil on the madness of their master Keraptis...

My dwarf fighter Wormbog and the wizard Hemphuel killed that f##%er. He's soooo dead.

I agree - of my Eberron (1) crew, I think only Vatnisse hasn't DM'ed on these boards yet.

I have to say that Heathy's game is wonderfully skewed - all that Heathy-ness, with added violence. Magic!

The funny thing is that if Heathy hadn't started up his game, I would probably have started setting something up in a month or three. School's too involved right now, though. We'll see once summer comes along.

BTW, I DM much in the same way as Heathy does - I like keeping it light, fast and violent. Splat!

But has he DMed in meatspace, yes, I'm sure he has. I haven't DMed on the boards either but I DMed my first game 26 years ago.... Since then, well....

The reason I say it is because I DM a game with 3 noobs and two guys who have played with me for a year. It's quite an exercise in pedagogy.

DMing here on Paizo looks a lot smoother, and the roleplaying is awesome.

Liberty's Edge

I know. The medium seems to make roleplaying imperative, IMHO.

I roleplay much better here than in real life. In person, if you lack thespian skills, then roleplaying is more difficult anyway, and it becomes more a case of catchphrases and cracking jokes. Nothing wrong with that, of course, it is a great laugh. But pbem is much more immersive. It is more like group-writing a fantasy story, which is very cool.

Liberty's Edge

Indeed. Take the accents and mannerisms that the characters in this game have (which are great by the way). In an RL game, for the most part, those would likely either drop off pretty early in the session, or else get old pretty quickly. Here it’s great.

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

I'm building an encounter right now; I don't see what's so hard about 3e monster design. The byoch is coming up with a concept you want to run with. The rest is easy enough.

Liberty's Edge

Male Mothman Expert 5

Yeah, I don’t think 3e monster design is that hard – ‘course, theres such a wealth of monsters available that if you’ve got a few books you can probably find something that you want most of the time without making it from scratch. I often use existing monsters and just change their appearance, and/or tweak one or two abilities.

If I do make a monster from scratch for my homegame its usually not too much hassle, cos I don’t get too hung up on calculating CR and balancing everything. If I’m doing something for others perusal it might take a bit longer as I try to balance and check everything.

Liberty's Edge

Manwolf Werewoof testing upper middle class twit 5

hrrm...maybe when they're cr6 or more it might be more work...

Yeah, I love online RPing. I can hit Thesaurus.com and find smart words if needed and you can mull over an action or dialog instead of just blurting something out around a table. I love it.

In face-to-face games I have to rely on movie knock-offs for my pcs and most of my accents end up being a hybrid of Australian and Scotish. Also it's nice to be able to be in 4-5 games a week!

Liberty's Edge

Quick rules query for the brains trust; if you take an action that would provoke an attack of opportunity (say a bulrush attack, or casting a spell) but the critter that would get the AOO is flat footed (say it’s prior to it’s initiative in the first round of combat), does it still get an AOO? My guess is no, but I can’t find where it says so in the rules.

Liberty's Edge

Manwolf Werewoof testing upper middle class twit 5

P.308, glossary PHB, flatfooted entry; says the flatfooted cannot make aoo's.

I have to admit that Granny owes her conception to Ruth Gordon in Every Which Way But Loose.

It's indespensible. I'm learning all this stuff as I go.

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

Right now, I'm tweaking on the idea of a baby goblin/orc/hobgoblin/ogre/bugbear/kenku/whatnot/kobold orphanage for the humanoid young left over by adventurers' slaughterous incursions.

Liberty's Edge

Male Mothman Expert 5

Back in the day there would have been no need for such a thing. It was slaughter the women and children all the way … assuming the species in question even HAD women or children.

In 1979 my mother ran Keep on the Borderlands for my brother and I. She played it by the book until the end when she made us adopt several dozen baby kobolds. My brother nipped that one in the bud by DMing from then on.

Liberty's Edge

One of our games with my high school group, we had defeated an outpost of derro or something, and were discussing what to do with the captured non-combative females and children, when my younger brother, about 6 at the time, who was lurking in the room piped up with “why don’t you set them on fire and make them run down the corridors in front of you? You’ll save on torches.” Another of his suggestions was to use them as human shields and cannon fodder.

Yeah...that got me to that point.

I kept thinking about the episode where she painted the hippo in butcher cuts.....

Agreed. One of the things I really like about 3.x Ed is the ability to customise monster to an almost infinite degreee. Of course, some of my friends prefer stock plug-and-play monsters. To each his own.
