Got one of these in my face-to-face Savage Tide group. He took a level of monk, has a now huge crocodile companion(+28 grapple mod, we are 10th level) and when the druid (Croc-hunter/hill-billy mix) shifts into croc form, he has a +36 grapple mod). He likes to remind me that if he went with bears that he could get the grapple mod even higher. Of course every feat and most items he owns are geared to help boost that number.

Oh, and here is some more in-depth information about Keoland geographically and politically. I downloaded and printed it out. The map is small; Saltmarsh isn't on it, but there's a nice breakdown of the provinces.

Here's the link again to the pdf I'm using for more in depth Keoland info. There's lotsa nice woodsy or swampy, or even oceanic places to let a druid be from. Or anywhere from Greyhawk for that matter.

OK, I'm trying the druid, I really am.
BUT,...If I have to listen to Reise's inane egotistical chatter, I swear to Boccob that I will recreate the ORIGINAL 'Ragadolf', (the "Original Insane Mage"). Between Rag's insane chatter and Reise's egotistical edification, NO one else would get a post in edge-wise! hehe. ;P

I really want to play the druid for the shape change aspect, but the only way to get that before 5th lvl is to take the 'Shifter' alternate class features from the PHB 2, which is fine, but removes the animal companion. It does make the shifting easier to deal with stat-wise, because all of your forms have the same stats.

MR. DM Heathy, the shifter class feature says that the feat 'natural spell' does NOT work with this altered ability. Is there a possibility that we can allow it to work with the shapechange, but maybe at a later level? Maybe 5th, when the druid normally gets shapeshift? Just a thought.

One other question, I have pages of research on feats for mages/sorcerers, but have never looked for feats for Druids, and don't see any off the top of my head that grab me. Any suggestions? Maybe 'spontaneous healing' so i can spontaneously cast either summon nature's allies OR heal spells? That way I wouldn't have to give up my 'cool' druid spells for healing spells, but would have them when we needed them.

And keep up the great crazy suggestions y'all! I'm loving them! (Might have to draw the line at the Hillbilly druid, I've known too many in my time!) ;D

EDIT-Now looking at the druid with an eye for the Mystic Theurge Prestige CLass! Just thinking!

I am enjoying my PC. I haven't played a pure caster in a long-long time. Whadda ya guys think of his personality? It is pretty different from what I usually do and I am liking it but I want to know if he is too annoying for everyone else. I could tone him down.

Did you ever read Cerebus the Aardvark? There's a character named Elrod of Melvinbone, you should check it because you've sort of reinvented him, and besides - the comic is hilarious - as is Reise.

Reise is a keeper and oughta keep the patter ripping really well.

No way. Much mirth is had by all. It's given me the kernal of an idea also; but all will be revealed in time.

For heaven's sake Fakey, DON'T tone him down! He's good stuff.
Like I said, he is making me nostalgic for my original 'Ragadolf' character. Ah the joys of insane, I mean INANE patter! :D

I'm just looking at all of these and trying to figure out where/how to fit in. I have an idea or two, including a variation of the 'hillbilly' thought,...

I can't tell why natural attack WOULD be unavailable at 5th level for this variant; I guess as a balance of some sort, but I don't believe allowing it would be a problem.

Ergo, I'm willing to try it--natural spell CAN become available to this character at 5th level, when wild shaping would normally become available to a druid. HoWEVER, if in road testing this it becomes somehow game breaking, I'll reserve the right to snatch it back, give you a replacement feat, and say "oops; the strain of all that shapeshifting on the human psyche broke the feat. YOu can't cast spells in shapeshifted form any more."
I'm willing to try it, and snatch it back if it's broke. Fair?

Hey Heathy, I made some Combat Wands for use in my home campaign. I wanted to ask if I could buy one in this campaign for my dude. They haven't broken anything in my games since I made them over a year ago.
Anyway here is the info, let me know what you think:

Spoiler:

Combat Wands

I think this concept works better for a spellcaster than having a wizard using a crossbow. It fits them more, flavor-wise, in my opinion. Attacks with Combat wands are ranged touch attacks.
These wands are made by saturating the wand in rare resins and alchemical substances that are infused with the energy type of the wand to be made.
Although they channel arcane energy, most wands are not magical themselves. For purposes of further enchanting them, they are considered masterwork weapons which are limited to only being able to receive enhancement bonuses (+1 through +5) and not the special abilities of weapons.
Special- For every 3 points the wielder’s concentration check exceeds the wand’s DC, the wielder may add 1 point of their ability bonus (of their primary casting ability, determined by highest caster level) to damage. So a wizard who exceeds the DC by 9 may add up to +3 points of his/her intelligence modifier to damage.
Special- Combat wands are considered one handed weapons for the purposes of two weapon fighting. They require great mental training and focus to use.
Special- Any effect that applies a penalty of bonus to the wielder’s attack, is also applied to the concentration check. Examples: Two weapon fighting penalties, being prone, recipient of a Bless spell.
Special- An attack with a Combat wand is treated as a ranged attack for determining things like attacks of opportunity.

Combat Wands:

Wand Type/Base Cost/Base Damage/Concentration DC/Range

1/ 750gp/ 1d4 / 10 / 40ft
2/ 1000gp/1d6/ 15/ 40ft
3 /1500gp/1d8/ 20/ 60ft
4/ 3000gp/1d10/ 25/ 60ft
5/ 5000gp/ 1d12/ 30/80ft

Energy Type/MultiplierCost*
Fire/ 0gp
Cold/ 50gp
Electricity/ 50gp
Acid/ 75gp
Sonic/100gp
Force/ 500gp

(* multiply the energy cost by the wand’s type, and add this cost to the wand’s base
cost to determine the overall price. So a Type 5 Combat wand of Force will cost 7500gp.
5000gp (Wand type 5) + 2500 (Price of the Force energy type times the Wand type: 500X5)

Obviously I couldn't even touch one for a couple levels but I would like to get rid of the crossbow eventually and just use this wand (most likely fire since I plan on being a firey evoker mage). Even the highest priced one (7500gp) only does 1d12+up to intel bonus if the concentration DC of 30 is passed.

Let me know what you think, but no rush.

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

I like them! I'll look them over and gauge the mechanics later; I like the sound of them though.
Ever see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix? I liked the sorcery beatdowns in that...

Male Human Cleric 4

Hey there, sorry it's taken me a bit to play catch up. Here's my character for your perusal, Heathy.

Spoiler:

Still working on a background, but in summation he'll be a Keoish native of the area near the Sterich border - having experienced some of the reclamation of Sterich and Geoff as a field medic and soldier. A friend's request has brought him south to Saltmarsh, but he's stopped at Bale Keep and hopefully runs into the rest of the gang. Of course, at the rate things are going - I may wind up in Saltmarsh playing catch-up. I'm working off the Keoish pdf and the Greyhawk Gazeteer (which I recommend for reference of all Greyhawk world).

A couple of things for character development.

1) I have no problems using the spell list from the d20SRD, but was wondering if I could eventually incorporate spells from the Spell Compendium book or Defenders of the Faith (its the original version of Complete Divine)supplement? I have both, so that's the only reason I inquire - no rush on this - but I thought I'd ask.

2) Concerning memorizing spells. Do you want me to send you a spoiler or something with my spells for each day - or just declare as needed? Only reason I ask is in case there's some confusion if I do spontaneous healing or domain spells.

That's it for now - let me know if I am good to go.

It's up to you to think of a reason the wagon can't be fixed DM Heathy.

Sounds fair to me!

And I liked Fakey's 'combat wands' as well, as a guy who ALWAYS plays a caster, I just always feel so lame having to go back to the crossbow before the end of every 1st & 2nd lvl battle. (Elf w/ a bow, not as bad, but still!)

I am working on the build now, any races that are NOT allowed? (I'm looking at wild elves and elves in general) And since I can't stand the thought of not blasting things eventually, I'll probably end up going Mystic Theurge, (or with a couple of levels of sor at least, cuz that's what I do!)

I'll try to get my WORK done, (Jobs, a nessacary evil) and be (mostly) done & posted by tonight.

Thanks!

I like the wagon all jacked up like that. It brings back memories.

I'll have my character enter once they get on the road from where ever they are!-He's 7ft tall 390 lbs with a 6 charisma I think he avoids large crowds of normal folks. He wears a tattered green and brown cloak with a large hood and a dark gray scarf. He keeps his face hidden as much as possible.
When traveling he often follows a road off road, to avoid contact, however he will help those in need...

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

You can just wander up to the fort is okee dokee; I'm playing a lot of this by ear really.
My main experiment, in the vein of experiments, was this:
Can I come up with a more interesting and yet still doable way to introduce a party of adventurers to eachother without the tried and true you're all in a bar motif?

Realistically, if your character walked up to the fort alone, he might get feathered with bolts; I won't let that happen.

Hehe.

I was just adding interjection to the interjection, and making oocs in character purely to keep the madness rolling. You need never worry, ol' kruelly doesn't get his feelings hurt, not in cyberspace, anyway. Tobus, for example, has named his orc's father after me. And I will get him back, but only when the soft underbelly is showing.

Here is the proof (and there's the pudding!)That I am actually working on it!
He is mostly ready to go, still need to type up his background. I have an idea I'm going to run with (Character wise) that should make me almost as interesting as some of these others I'll be running around with. ;P

I took 'spontaneous Healing' as my feat to be of use as a healer without having to give up my useful (IE=cool) druid spells.

Other than the background and what's left of my starting gold (I didn't buy him much, he lives in the middle of the forest for cryin' out loud!) I think he is almost ready to go!

BUT, it is 1:15 here, HAVE to get a little sleep before 5:15am when the alarm goes off!

That's one bodacious druid.
I assume he is a "temperate woodland druid," so that's the formset he uses for his shifting abilities.

dungeonmaster heathy wrote:

Thanks, never made one before.

Yeah, I think so. Though I DID toy with the "idear o' makin' him be from da' Hool swamp region. Onna counta' dat's whut I ben decidin' to go wit' for his accent dere chere."

But, "Elgan Hool" just doesn't have the same ring to it! :D

OK, working on the background now. But for those of you who just tuned in, a little history lesson of a certain dialect,...

"Way back when, there were many French settlers in the region now known as Louisiana. (DUH!) Many of them settled way off the beaten track in the Swamplands and Bayous. (Swampland=mostly stagnant water, Bayous are the natural waterways that connect the bodies of water. As opposed to a Canal, which is man-made.) There is something about living away from 'civilization' that brings out the drawl in anyone. So imagine the afore-mentioned idea of the 'hillbilly swamp-druid'. You take a hillbilly from arkansas, put him in a swampy environment, and make half of his conversation french words that HE doesn't even know what they mean. and you have your 'swamp-hillbilly'.

You also have the accent I will be attempting to elucidate & imitate via keyboard.
This should be interesting,... Please wish me luck,...
:P

All Canadians know this story because of how it started.

So, a cajun elf who turns into a 'gator?

I got a little long-winded in the description and background, (I like to write, and talk, and,...) so I'm not reposting it here! Your just gonna haveta click and go read it yourself.

I just cannot find the starting gold for druids! I'm not too worried, I didn't give him the 'usual' adventurer's kit since he' s from the middle of the woods, but I did give him a few alchemical items that the tribal sorcerers could have made.

Other than that, his background now leads him right up to your doorstep! Let the games begin!
