Liberty's Edge

Your crew is walking down a dirt road, tired, bruised, dazed, confused and hungry.    It was supposed to be a simple delve, run in, kill the bad monsters, grab the loot and then party for the rest of the year. It turned out not to be so simple though (If you ever catch the little bugger who sold you all the map, he's going to pay big time!) The map lead your group right into a the lair of a big nasty armed with weapon and magic, none of you stood a chance. Not one of you knew what that thing was or really care to ever know.    The group as a whole was fairing very badly battling the monster yet some how your sneak was able to find a secret door out the back of the lair allowing everyone to escape but once though the door you knew instantly you weren't home anymore.   Your wiseone, after investigating most of the day informed all that indeed you were not on your home world anymore and has the slightest idea where you are currently.   So now you are slowly walking making your way to civilization(if there is any) for rest and food.....

The Rules:
-1st level-Core classes and races-no evil and no monster pc's
-28 point buy in
-Looking to fill 6 slots- #7 is already reserved(rogue most likely)
-All rolling will be done on invisible castle-invisible castle
-Please be able to commit to one post per day at the least
-Your crew has been together already for a few adventures so all pc's know each other-starting xp is 500
-Max hit points to start
-Max money to start
-The adventure has some urban and a good deal of dungeon delving so your crew should be designed as wanna be dungeon experts
-Home world is Golarion
-You should be able to use most books as long as I have it

I would like to put my hand up as party fighter.

Are there any specific restrictions on book usage in reguards to feats?

Liberty's Edge

If i have access to the information and doesn't seem to crazy to fit into the game I have put together most feats should be ok!

Sovereign Court

I'll throw my hat in the ring as a Barbarian, with either the Whirling Frenzy rage variant or favored enemy/archery style variant (more likely).

EDIT: Any hints on what a good favored enemy might be?

Liberty's Edge

Would you accept a non-native English speaking person onboard?
If so, I would like to join :-)

I woould like to play a ranger if accepted.

Scarab Sages RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32

OK, this would be my first PbP and I would like to play but have a few questions before I could commit.

The character concept that I would like to play is a Human Charisma/UMD based Evasion Paladin.

The build includes a few concepts that you may not be familiar or happy with, so if you don't approve that's cool I don't mind. If you do like what I wanna do and approve the build then I would be honoured to join.

This is the basics of the build:

Spoiler:

Levels
1 Rogue
2 Rogue
3 Human Paragon (Unearthed Arcana)
4 Human Paragon (Unearthed Arcana)
5 Human Paragon (Unearthed Arcana)
6 Paladin
7 Paladin
8 Paladin

*The character concept is that he was a Sherrif in his little backwater village (he was left there when he was a baby). He spent most of his free time tinkering with anything he could get his hands on(hence the UMD). As evidenced by his status as Sherrif, he takes the Law very seriously. He always felt constricted by the small village and when the party (in one incarnation or another) passed through he resigned his post and took up with them to see the world, as he always felt he was destined for more than the village could offer. As he grows character-wise he slowly becomes a more pious man and decides to embrace an adopted religion from his new homeworld and become a Paladin. He has no problems with dungeon delving and is willing to forgive minor transgresions into grey areas, but is also the moral conscious of the party, trying to steer them away from breaking the Law.

*He uses a Staff in combat and would use his UMD to use Magical Staves (as well as other things such as wands and the like). He has to wear Light Armour to utilize his Evasion and so would be looking to accquire a set of Mithral Breastplate that would either be Magical or that he could get Enchanted.

*The Human Paragon gives him a bonus to his Charisma, but the main reason is so that he can gain UMD as a Class Skilll for whatever Class he happens to be in.

*The character also utilizes the "Devoted Inquisitor" Feat from Complete Adventurer.

Perhaps you would like a cleric?

I'm interested, how does a dwarven wizard (transmuter) sound?

If armored, a transmuter peals like a bell when struck.

If unarmored, he makes only a squishy "thuck".

Or was that not your question?

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 16

Would you except a Shoanti Spirit Shaman? I am very interested in trying this class out from the complete divine book. I think it would make a great mix as a golarion based character.

Good intro. I'd like to play.

I'll be either a:
* NG Cleric of Phantasma (goddess of death and prophesy)
* CG Elven battle-sorcerer (from the SRD variant classes)

Happy to play either based on whether the party needs more healing or more blasting.

Liberty's Edge

First I want to thank all for your interest!! I'm going to wait a day to see if we get more interest here so I can run two groups so everyone gets to play. My reserved slot backed out so we will still need a rogue type to round out the parties. All charater ideas sound great so go ahead and create your pc's. Stegger, the ranger will be ok but I would create him or her to be more like an urban ranger or some such.

Sovereign Court

I've decided to go with a Shoanti barbarian, favored enemy/archery style variant, so my main focus will be missile combat.

So, two questions for Zoomackulus:

1. Any hints on a good favored enemy? I'm thinking magical beasts, but if we'll never face any...

2. I need a ruling on the klar (from the RotR Players Guide). Would you consider it like a light shield (takes up a hand), or like a buckler (allowing use of missile weapons without penalty)?

Thanks!

How many people do you have now?

Thats sounds great. If you rather I make a rogue, just let me know!

Dron is done. I just need someone to act as his brains (Int 6). He will follow any warrior willing to give him orders (and take the consequences).

Cheers

Kraeg is almost complete.

Just need to finish his equipment and background.

That sounds like a great idea. I've already decided on Shundar-Quah (Spire Clan) for the Totem Spirit feat, but I think we could be from different clans if you wanted to go another route.

Haven't done too much else on background yet, though I was thinking about possibly being an exile from my tribe, having stolen my father's gear. Don't know about the reason why yet. But that's just what's been kicking around in my head. The only thing certain is that I'm a hunter, and a really good archer (or as good as I can be at 1st level).

Any ideas on your side?

Liberty's Edge

SargonX-
1)You will be facing all manner of fun bad guys, magical beasts, aberrations, undead, outsiders and humanoids to name a few..
2)It says in the wording that it is a bladed shield so I going to say its a small shield

Kruelaid-
We have 9 persons so far who have shown interest, I would need at least 3 more people to keep both parties balanced at this point

Stegger-
You can go with either and urban type ranger or rogue, which ever would be fun for you to play. Remember you could take levels in another class later on in the game

Dron-
Looks great so far-we'll just have to see who want to play babysitter now!

Ungoded-
Looks great so far- should be a fun character to play!

FOR ALL-
This campaign is designed to start at 1st level and should end around 15th or so and you will have traveled many, many a mile upon a few worlds, so bring good shoes....

Im going with the Skull Clan so I can get the +2 wpn DMG against Undead. Playing the Shaman I am going with a neutral alignment who focuses on the Blanace of Nature and is especialy against the Undead/malivent "spirits" that defy nature. I was thinking He too could be a recluse of his clan, not that he is a loner type just that his obsession with ousting the undead makes the rest of the clan a bit uneasy so he left. Perhapse you can tie in somenthing with that. Im a good healer too, so perhaspe I found you after your "expulsion" and nursed you back to health. Or we could have a similiar hatred of all things anti nature. Let me know what you think. Im sure we can come up with something real good.

Here is the basics for my Spirit Shaman. Still need to buy gear, and work out a background. I also need to select his currently retrived spells. One question, since we have 500 ex can we use any of are starting gold to purchase Magic gear that we may have already aquired. I know even with starting max gold and buying reagular equipment there wont be much, bt I was thinking it might be in character for him to have a potion of healing, if I could afford it.

Similar question: Can we use some of that 500xp to scribe scrolls?

Liberty's Edge

Zoomackulas,
the urban Ranger seems like a great class.
Would you allow both this: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm
or this:
www.openroleplaying.org/library/RevisedUrbanRanger.doc
or did I miss it from somewhere else?

Liberty's Edge

Stegger-
The open role playing doc looks good to use!
If you want I would even allow you to replace favored enemy with the trapfinding ability of the rogue and then you could pick up the disable device feat to make the character a little more rogueish!

Liberty's Edge

Caultox and Kraeg
When your group left the lair of the big bad monster you did not leave empty handed thanks to the sneak! So when we start I will let all know what you got so I would save your xp and money for now. Once we start and you'd still like to buy or scribe a scroll we can roleplay that out!

Fantastic! Here's the start of Orelan, a swashbuckling, adventure seeking elf who still can't choose between the arts martial and the arts mystical.

Let me know if you're OK with the variant class; I can always rework him as a multiclass character if you prefer.

Will

Liberty's Edge

Welcome aboard Orelan! Make sure your character is more urban/dungeon based as you build him. There will be hardly any wilderness/ocean being used in this game.

The Exchange

Come on we need some more healers!

There's going to be a lot of wounded fighters. What about a bard or two?

Dark Archive

Zoomackulas, I'm interested in playing a warblade or a rogue, depends on what fits the bill. Let me know. Thanks :D

EDIT: Willing to play a cleric also. The setting is Golarion, right?

French Wolf wrote:

Well, we have a Cleric (Dron Drox) and a Druid (Cualox) so far -- I guess we need to know whether we have 2 parties, and how we're splitting between them. Complicated stuff!

I'm also happy to reroll a healer type if needed.

Radavel wrote:

The intro mentions that we've just found ourselves in another realm. I'm not clear whether (a) Golarion is our homeland and we're now somewhere new; or whether (b) we have just arrived in Golarion and our homeland is somewhere else as yet undefined.

Given most people have designed characters using the Golarion races, I guess we started in Golarion and are now somewhere new.

Zoomackulas - is that right?

If we are not going to be in any or nearly none wilderness, perhapse a spirit shaman is not the best way to go. It is basicly a varient druid that plays like a sorcerer. If thats the case I think I wouold rather play a sorcerer type so I could be more urban/dungeon and still a shoanti who is out to hunt down undead with out being a cleric.

What do you think?

I worked up a Sorcerer of the Shoanti Tribe that is more dungeon oriented, and still gets the Role Play jist I was going for as a hunter of undead. I like it much better since we are not going wilderness romping. I migh multi-class him with barbarian, fighter, or monk, later. Idea being that his personal honor means he must defeat the undead with his bare hands, and or gifts of magic.

Sargon X, I still want to tie up are backgrounds if the DM will keep us in the same group. Perhapse we could have the same father but different mothers and our hatred of him could be a comon bond?

Now we definitely need some more healing :-)

But a sorcerer sounds good - what sort of spells are you thinking? Orelan will have a really limited selection, so we might want to sync-up. If we're in the same group, at least.

This replaces the Spirit Shaman. A Sorcerer who is against the Undead. I have Heal as a class skill but lose it as a spell ability.

I am going for a concept of a Shoanti who is against the Undead so I am taking necro spells and personal buff spell. The Idea that he will have to defeat the undead in battle like a brave warior with the aid of his magic gift. At first LVL im taking Disrupt Undead, Touch of Fatigue, Detect Magic, Acid Splash, Mage Armor, and Chill Touch.

Liberty's Edge

Radavel-
Welcome to the game! Warblade or Rogue would be good!

Going buy the posts so far with the people who have created most of their character or have posted multiple times(showing more interest) we have:
Barbarian
Cleric
Wizard
Battle Sorcerer
Sorcerer
Urban Ranger

At this point I am going to start moving people who have most of their characters made to a dicussion thread sometime tomorrow or early Friday (pacific time). I live in Seattle WA USA! This will be group 1!

Your homeworld is Golarion and you are now somewhere else! Characters should have a Golarion background!

Sounds good; fun concept. I'm aiming for a rapier-wielding dilettante; dabbling in both swordplay and sorcery, and adventuring for the sheer love of the challenge. Almost all his spells will be evocation, with just a few utility types. Initial spells are Flare, Light, Message; and either Magic Missile or Burning Hands - not sure which yet.

Favoured Soul was gonna be my next choice if my Pally got rejected. I like 'em and am playing a Gnome Favoured Soul/Sorcerer/Spherewalker in our RotRL game that we are starting soon. ;)

So will that make 3 Aussies?

Here is Triska, barbarian archer of the Shundar-Quah, ready for action! Just need to put in some personality notes and background, once MythrilDragon and I have hammered it out.

favored soul bout 30% done (this is rickyflame)

also wondering what the chances of getting exalted feats are? namely "sacred vow" and "vow of nonviolence" in book of exalted deeds pg. 45 and 47?

few last minute kinks need worked out for background before being posted, also getting my hands on a few more books before finalizing, feats and spells.

I like that idea. I guess it would mean Shoanti clans are matrilineal then, since we're from different clans. Or better yet, your clan (Skoan-Quah, Skull Clan) is patrilineal, Dad is Skull Clan, so you are too.

But my clan (Shundar-Quah, Spire Clan) is matrilineal. My mother was given/sold to Dad as a bride (to seal a peace, perhaps), and she always resented not being able to make her own choice. And he always treated me (as non-Skull, and a woman to boot) as a second-class citizen. Growing up, I promised myself never to be put in Mom's situation, and vowed to reclaim my birthright. So I stole Dad's armor and weapons and ran away before I reached marriageable age.

How does that sound? And why do you hate him?

Also, how old is Kaldren? Triska is 17. So are you an older or younger half-brother?

This is my Evasion Pally.
I still have to put together his Feats and Skills, but I'm gonna do that tomorrow after I've had some sleep.
g'night
