Aubrey the Malformed wrote:Can I have physical descriptions for your characters (either here or, better, in their profiles) - I am writing the intro.Mine's already in there. It's brief, but workable. I haven't actually finished my gear yet because I don't know how much money I'm starting with. Anyone know?

By the way, kicking off the campaign here.

Aubrey, you are amazing.
It's a killer not reading the other spoilers though! :)
I second that motion.
The physical description is in Andrei's profile now: Go here if anyone wants a better look at him.

Physical description added. Also, Aubrey, I was at a loss on one of my bonus languages so I put down Old Dhakaani. Is there any such thing and if so do you think it's appropriate? I was going for something to dovetail with my maxed out knowledge(history) skill.
I don't think there is - it is basically Goblin - but it was a good thought. Orcish is certainly good and appropriate (the orcs and goblinoids have an interlinked history) but I'm a bit stumped too. I would suggest Draconic, Giant or Elvish.
Oh, one other thing - as a member of the Silent Blades you are probably an ancestor worshipper - at the moment your profile says Dol Dorn.

I think you have stinted yourself two skill ranks in something.

Oh, I forgot to add the skills point for my intelligence. Thanks for the heads up. I take it then (considering that's all you pointed out), that my skills were the only thing wrong with my sheet?
Thanks again - and wow on the intros. Colour me impressed.
EDIT: I made Andrei LG in the end (as the alignment restrictions are more flexible in Eberron), largely because at level 3, I'd like him to start taking levels of Paladin. At that level he'll most likely also take Knight Training, so he can keep multi-classing with his Fighter levels.
Is that okay?

No problem at all.

I have finished most of my profile. Some things in the background are still missing (point of origin and previous dealings with his tribe and in Sharn). The rest is ready to go.
Re origin, the obvious place is the Eldeen Reaches - the homeland of the shifters. You might want to think about following one of the druidic traditions, probably the Wardens of the Wood, though someone like Blainor from the Sovereign Host might also be appropriate. In Sharn - you could say you are looking for work (it's what I was going to assume for your background, though you can go for something else if that seems a bit prosaic).

OK - I'm at the airport and off to catch a plane. Have fun, we will get back to this tomorrow - feel free to post roleplaying posts in the meantime. By the way, as a general rule, expect activity to tail off at weekends. I am often around, but Fatespinner for one often isn't. Enjoy!

I wanted to emphasize that his speeking patterns do not reflect his upbringing.
Nearly nothing he was taught has sticked, only practical things (leading to 4 ranks in Survival and Handle Animal). Even the speech patterns of his tutors have not sunk into his behaviour. He also like to blend in words together, tries to shorten the words he says in order to save time.
Impatience is a hellish mistress.

no particular.. a bit southern a la Cannonball/Rogue... (I am German, so that may be a bit difficult for me)
Well, dialects in non-native languages are gruesomely hard to get right, so you're doing a great job!
American Southern accent is a twisty little maze of dialects, all different. Dallas is a major city in northern Texas, and the accent there is sharply distinct from those of rural Mississippi (where Rogue supposedly hails from, and where Elvis Presley got his accent), New Orleans, or the mountains of Kentucky (Cannonball's alleged home).
I grew up in St. Louis Missouri, and spent many summers visiting different parts of the South. In my experience, most writers get Rogue's accent more or less right, and most miss badly on Cannonball's.
To my ears, Urthona's accent is coming off very well. I can hear his voice, and it has a clear, distinct accent. I don't hear it as stereotypically Southern, but that's probably find for a shifter from Eldeen. The impatience comes through very well, too. Nice, evocative job!
Contrariwise, I am trying for a specific rural Kentucky / West Virginian accent for Benedetto. Think Sherrif Andy in Mayberry.

Mayberry? No clue... movie? tv series?
If have read tone of X-Men, new Mutants, X-force comics, so basically I will shift it more to a Rogue tongue, or a shorthand pronounciation.
I thought my English was okay... and then I went to see "From Dusk Til Dawn" and at the beginning the highway patrolman came into the shop... and I went "Huh? What did he just say?", until a good friend of mine and native English speaker reassured me... "Didn't understand a thing either..."

"Mayberry" refers to the long-running U.S. TV show, "The Andy Griffith Show." The main character was a sheriff in small-town North Carolina.
(laughs) Yeah, but harly anybody actually had a North Carolina accent! Don Knotts played deputy Barney Fife with a *very* distinctive West Virginia accent (no, really; stop for gas in West Virginia, and they all talk like Barney Fife!), Goober and Gomer Pyle had different accents despite being brothers, and who knows *where* Aunt Bea was from?!

By the way - some people are using Invisible Castle or something similar to make their rolls where others seem to be using dice. I have no problem either way, I just wish to point out that proving your rolls to me is unnecessary as that aspect of the game is run on a trust basis.

Nice to know, 90%+ of the time though, I have an internet connection to hand, but not dice, so invisible castle stays open in another tab, once it has done the roll, it is actually *easier* to just copy it's bbcode output than to type the result!
Technology eh?

I'm using a beautiful new set of red and black swirled dice. So far they've rolled like crap - but they look very 'Shagraat' while doing so.
Sound nice, maybe they are trying to make you use them more? Prety things tend to also like lots of attention I find :)

They get to sit on the desk and read the thread with me at home. That's pretty nice, seeing as all my other dice have to sit in the pretty pencil box. Maybe I'll start treating them to more practice rolls in the future. My wife is convinced that practice rolls help. She also likes punishing dice that betray her.

Well they should be happy then! Careful your other dice don't get jealous though!

"Has Raine yelled out into the shadows yet?"
"Rain, not recently, no."
Just thought I'd continue the pun.....is it possible to spell it in a different way in each consecutive post? To never have the same version on the same page thought the thread? The possibilities are endless!!!!
(Sorry, caught late at work and *very* bord...)
