Fazaam Al-Nak'Bar |
Fazaam hastily backs back to the wall where he was. Hasan clutching his ponytail so tight it looks like it might come out. The monkey is so frightened it is chattering, but makes no noise.
Fazaam's rapier futilely swipes at the air, the mist clinging to it like spun sugar.
"I TOLD you I had a bad feeling about this!" He mutters as he scans the mist.
"GHAR! A little help from the big, hairy human would be REAL welcome right now, O most noble of wilderness warriors!" Fazaam shouts as he begins to wave his sword in a swift, defensive pattern.
Going full defensive:AC is now 19/15/16 (AC/Touch/Flat-footed)
Fazaam's SPOT and SEARCH rolls: (1d20 2=16, 1d20 6=16)
[ooc] AND don't forget the monkey!
Yrar-Kynlas |
"Run you furless monkey bones … RUN," Yrar yells with a laugh mixed in as he sees the creatures scamper up the slope. Yrar turns with a grin toward Ghari, and his smile quickly disappears and his eyes bulge.
Spot Check (Roll 14+3=17)
"Ghari … Look Out!" Yrar yells out in warning. The Half-Orc starts to move toward the Ranger looking beyond, toward the arches where something slowly advances.
Yrar hears Fudrick yelling from the hole, "A little busy up here at the moment. Be down when I can. How about you come up?"
If needed, Initiative (Roll 1+2=3)
DM
Sheherazade |
I need everyone's initiative in two distinct groups. Next person to read this roll, using the info on this alias. However Yrar has already rolled a 3.
The shambling monster moves out from beneath the first arch, bathed in light it was once a man, a large man, but most of the neck and face has been bitten away.
It is twenty feet from Ghari when it screams in savage pain.
Ghari spoiler
----
The sweet honey gas humps like a wave in the centre of the chamber, and a slow rasp of flesh pulled across the stone floor can be heard.
The mistwave and rasping sound seem to be coming towards the party.
Fazaam Al-Nak'Bar |
Fazaam's (party) initiative roll: (1d20+3=15)
Don't hate me! Hate my dice roller! :)
"Chamber" Party Init:
Fazaam-15
Shulim-14
Roman-13
Fudrick-13
Tell me if I did that wrong please! :)
"A little busy up here at the moment. Be down when I can. How about you come up?"
"The man is a blessed genius! Why didn't I think of that?" Fazaam mumbles, swiping at the mist towards the noise.
"You heard the man!" He cries in what he hopes is a carefree manner, "Everybody up and at 'em! Last one out is a monkey's uncle!" This last bit finally elicits a shriek of outrage from the wide-eyed Hasan.
"I'll hold it off!" He cries exuberantly, moving to place himself between where he thinks the creature is and the ladder. "Of course, a little help never hurt,..." He adds softly.
"Hey Roman, any chance you can call a friend of yours to help distract this thing here?" He asks.
5' step to place myself between the thing and the steps so I can defend the others as they climb the ladder. Staying full Defense, AC as above.
This idiot mageling is gonna get himself killed! Just a thought. :P
Sheherazade |
Two sets of initiative, this is going to be fun.
Above ground
Ghari 17
Creature 10
Yrar 3
Ghari 17 is up next.
--------
In the Chamber of Urns
Fazaam 15
Shulim 14
Roman 13
Fudrick 13
Zartari 8
Shulim rushes up the ladder without a thought. He climbs 20ft and calls to the men above, "I'm coming."
Roman's go.
Ghari ibn Ayyadi |
At Yrar's cry Ghari turns and spots the advancing zombie. His knees go momentarily weak at the damage the pirate has sustained.
[
Yrar looks to the Ranger, "Let's put this thing out of its misery."
"GLadly. That's my old boss."
Nocking an arrow and stepping clear of Yrar, Ghari yells, "Fazaam! Yoraal's back. And he looks worse than before."
Ghari sights along the shaft. " Yoraal, stop there."
Ghari ibn Ayyadi |
Yrar-Kynlas |
Yrar bounds down the bank singing what sounds to be some type of pirate tune given over to words of the Half-Orc’s creation,
“I’m gonna make deader, a dead-pirate, Yo Ho, yo ho.
I’m gonna make deader, a dead-pirate, Yo Ho, yo ho.
I gonna make him as dead as can be,
he will never ever want a piece of me.
Deader … Deader …
Deader, pirates from me
“I’m gonna make deader, a dead-pirate, Yo Ho, yo ho.
I’m gonna make deader, a dead-pirate, Yo Ho, yo ho.
This dead pirate is deader to be,
My hammer will make him a bit smusheee.
Deader … Deader …
Deader, pirates from me.”
Yrar then plants himself on the opposite side of the creature from Ghari and swings with all of his might.
Attempting to flank, if possible
Maul Attack (Roll 6+5=11), (13, if flanking), Damage (Roll 4+6=10)
All those brilliant lyrics for nothing. :)
Chamber Party is a go with Roman
Roman Maelstrom |
The Tinkle of breaking glass fills the room quitely as the creature speaks.
Rushing (but not charging) to where the creature disappered, and where the fog ripples and the sounds make it seem where the creature is , Roman thrusts his stick forward as he watches in bemusment. Going about his task in a workman like manner Roman muses " If this is how surfacer's fight how is it that we haven't taken over the surface lands yet..."
Fazaam Al-Nak'Bar |
Ghari yells, "Fazaam! Yoraal's back. And he looks worse than before."
"Now I know your joking!" Fazaam yells back at Ghari, hoping the noise will distract the creature from Roman's swift approach. " 'Cause that's not possible!"
No action-just being me! :)
Fudrick, Batter up!
Sheherazade |
Yrar's hammer whistles over the head of the ghoulish monster as it ducks.
----
Roman's magical quarterstaff smashes down on gristle and flab.
"Noo," screams Zartari.
"I am your cousin! Stop this, please." Briefly the gnomish head reappears above the thick mist. The party down under sees a face surrounded by suckers, and black blood pours from his wounded forehead.
"I am cursed, cousin."
The monstrous Zartari flops back under the sweet gas.
Fudrick, as the man said, over to you.
Fudrick Boddymil |
Roman's magical quarterstaff smashes down on gristle and flab."Noo," screams Zartari.
Fudrick slowly makes his way to the closest urn. He bends down to look examine it. After a quick glance he opens it up while yelling, "Zartari, how can we break the curse? Give us the information to help you out."
Am I the only one getting creepy sci-fi movie flashbacks on this? Wasn't it the 1st or 2nd Alien movie that had something like this? /shivers. Staying defensive with back against wall while inspecting the urn for a possible clue or weapon against the mist/beast/cousin.
Sheherazade |
The creature moves across the floor towards its cousin. It's movement is ponderous and thoughtless. The mist momentarily clears arond the creature and its a blob of ever changing limbs and lumps of flesh dragging itself over the flagstones by two extra arms.
Attack of Opportunity for Roman, if he wants it.
"Curses! It was in the silver urn. It changed me and Mokarin. Save me."
The nearest urn to Fudrick is a ceramic pot over four foot high, and the lid is sealed with wax. Other than the angular writing, the only patterns are of circles and stars.
As Fudrick breaks the seal and lifts the lid, a patch of darkness breaks free and slides out of the gap. It floats ten foot in front of the party.
Oh goody! Round two. However be aware that the patch of darkness acts before Fudrick and Roman on 14.
edit: the patch of darkness moves in and out like the movement of a lung.
Ghari ibn Ayyadi |
As Ghari steps back to evade the oncoming zombie, his left heel teeters on the edge of the hole. "Not good." He draws his sword while side-stepping away from Yrar and thrusts at the undead.
freee action : drop bow . move action 5' step & draw . attack
Undead Yoraal is up.
Sheherazade |
As Ghari moves round Yoraal, his sword misses its target. Both he and Yrar now flank it
"Squeaalll!
Squealing like a pig through his torn nose, the zombie drops the club, ripping out at Ghari, and his fingers grip the ranger's shirt. Then he begins to pull Ghari close, real close.
Attack roll 19+..=hit. Improved Grapple. Opposed grapple check with Ghari, 18 to beat.
Ghari ibn Ayyadi |
Attack roll 19+..=hit. Improved Grapple. Opposed grapple check with Ghari, 18 to beat.
grapple check (1d20+2=17) somebody help me out here. There must be a funny close but no cigar angle.
Ghari struggles in the grip of the undead. The smell of rotting flesh makes him gag. "Yraahhhhr ..."
little help here, big guy.
Yrar-Kynlas |
Yrar stops his tune when the undead pirate ducks below his blow. "Damn, what's wrong with this thing?" the Half-Orc yells as his eyes look toward his weapon. Then his eyes go wide when Ghari is bear-hugged by the monster. Refocusing on the enemy, "What, you didn't like my song? Fine! Ghari, hold still." Yrar changes his tune but stays with a lyrical tone as he swings at the creature's back, "A little less song .. ,and a lot more smashin'."
Maul Attack (Roll 8+5=13) I do not think I am flanking since Ghari is grappled, but if so, then the Attack total is (15), Damage (Roll 8+6=14)
Back to the Chamber group, I think. Roman has an AoO, if desired, and unless I am incorrect, Fazaam is up.
Roman Maelstrom |
If I get an AoO I take it,
Roman Smashes the Beast with his Attack of Oppurtunity, Shouting " If your who you say you are, what do you know of the ad astra per aspera, Talk and I may let you live"
Roman's Lying of Course, Unholy Abomination = Destruction, But hoping to get some info before he destroys his sole lead to his fathers location
Attack, 17+3=20 Damage, 9+1+1=11 counts as magic
Sheherazade |
The zombie attempts to bite Ghari with its maimed and torn mouth. Lacking a lower jaw, it gives up and contents to squeeze the life out of the man. As this happens, Yrar dances left and right, unable to land a good blow on the monster.
Correct Yrar, no flank, and the zombie deals 3 pts of non lethal damage to Ghari as it squeezes.
--------
Roman's staff hammers into the mist, striking the beast hard. It stops dragging itself across the floor.
"What are you saying?. Fudrick. Fudrick."
Round Two over up top, Fazaam is up next.
Fazaam Al-Nak'Bar |
Fazaam looks back and forth between the transformed Gnome, and the breathing cloud of darkness. Obviously unsure of which is the greater threat.
"Fudrick, Under the circumstances, I'm not really sure that you can trust what your cousin is telling you."
Finally, he seems to reach some inner decision, and points his finger at the cloud of darkness.
'THYRORI!' He cries, and small bits of light appear and gather upon his hand, covering it in a fine layer of frost before lancing out in a narrow blue beam towards the cloud.
Fazaam to hit and dmg, with ray of frost: (1d20 3=17, 1d3=3)
(I hope this thing isn't immune to magic!)
Fazaam Al-Nak'Bar |
Fazaam smirks when he sees his frost ray affect the Darkness.
"Suck frost ink blot!" He taunts happily.
Meanwhile Shulim finishes climbing the ladder and jumps up behind Yrar."They're right there's a massive zombie up here and its got Ghari."
"Great Ghar! I leave you alone for ONE minute! I just can't take you anywhere!" He shouts.
Fudrick Boddymil |
"ROMAN, STOP IT. We don't know what is going on yet. Whatever this thing is it could not have anything to do with your father. It has been buried here for ages."
Fudrick moves around the room searching for the silver urn. Staying away from the beating shadow thing and the tentacles.
IC needs some better dice mechanics.
Zartari is next
Sheherazade |
In his rush to spot the urn, Fudrick's eyes flash past the big silvery one in the middle of the chamber. The lidless one.
Zartari does nothing, there is no movement from the ground in front of Roman.
However the patch of darkness ripples forwards and hunches over Fudrick. It reaches out with two shadowy arms for the gnome's head.
Touch attack 12+2=14. Will Save DC10 as the arms attempt to sink into the flesh.
Spoiler for successful will save
Spoiler for failed save
That is the end of round two. Shulim now is part of the upper initiative and the shade acts at the end of the round.
Ghari ibn Ayyadi |
Fudrick Boddymil |
Fazaam Al-Nak'Bar |
Ducking and weaving to avoid the icy cold touch Fudrick points and yells, "The shadow thing, take that out first!"
"What does it look like I'm doing? Trying to get a date?" Fazaam asks Hasan, trying to stay behind the floating cloud thing. Which would be easier if it had a back. "On the contrary," He continues, the small white dots of light once again beginning to cover his hand with frost. "I'm trying to give it the cold shoulder, THYRORI! He shouts, stabbing at the darkness with another thin blue beam.
Fazaam's to hit/dmg with Ray of Frost, again: (1d20 3=17, 1d3=2)
Fazaam's miss chance for incorporeal: (1d10=10, 1d10=5)
10 and 5, 15%=hit! yay! (all 2 points)
"Yes!" Fazaam clenches his fist and pumps his elbow down in victory. "Back into your urn inkblot, or I'll turn you into a popsicle!"
Sheherazade |
..Ghari struggles in the arms of the zombie, trying to break its relentlessly crushing grip...
Ghari breaks free from the zombie.
Shulim darts around the side of the zombie and waits an opportune moment to strike. He leaps in, stabs the beast but it ignores the wound.
The zombie continues to attack Ghari. Hatred fires from its eyes.
Attack roll 14+3, Improved grapple opposed roll 14+7=17. Non-lethal damage 3pts.
Yoraal's thick arms arm around the briefly freed man and begin to squeeze the life out of him.
Yrar's go.
Fudrick Boddymil |
Ghari ibn Ayyadi |
Spots cloud Ghari's vision. Breathing is difficult, coming in shreds. Despite a moment of freedom, it seems nothing can break his opponent's grip. His weakening legs buckle and he starts to fall. "Got to change tack, " he thinks. In a last desparate bid for freedom he sweeps his left leg at the zombie's feet, trying to trip him.
going for the takedown grapple break. Aaaargh. Invisiblecastle is down. here is my honor roll from d20srd. 1d20+2 11+2 = 13 that doesn't look good enough. sweet oblivion here I come.
Fazaam, quit cooling your heels.
Sheherazade |
The zombie's clutch is too strong for Ghari, arms and legs flail but he cannot take the monster down.
Old blood and saliva flick across when Yoraal looks down at the hole in the ground. He looks back directly into Ghari's face with baleful intelligent eyes "Dddowwwnnn1"
Ghari, I rolled a 15. Fazaam, over to you.
Fazaam Al-Nak'Bar |
Hearing the gurgling cry from above, Fazaam looks up at the hole and starts to take a step, then looks at the obviously angry sea-elf who seems intent on smashing what is left of Fudrick's cursed cousin into putty. He is obviously torn between running to help his friend, and trying to help Fudrick save his cousin from Roman's wrath. Hasan chattering in his ear doesn't help.
"Coming Ghar!" He cries, then whispers, "I'm on my way, just hang on friend."
Fazaam turns back to the chamber, and dives beneath the mist. The rolling mist boils, tracking his movement as he tumbles out of sight along the floor. He reemerges next to the urn that Fudrick just opened, his rapier held in his left hand in a reverse grip, his right hand clutching the heavy lid of the urn that Fudrick dropped when the black cloud emerged. He holds the lid like a Frisbee next to his shoulder, and looks at Roman.
Fazaam cries in Elvish, "Roman! Myr vaeri mi-shyraes. Ai thaer os eilaes, sher sor air cor thastolia, cor shyr. Shi ter mali cos ais shi tal. Jhaeli os, eil caer syri eirdyli. Vaeri!"
Elvish translation:
"Roman, Stop please sea-brother. I understand your anger, but this is his family, his blood. We must save him if possible. Leave off, and help those above. Please!"
Fazaam delays his standard action, and is readying an action, that action to be throwing the lid like a frisbee at Roman if he moves to attack the creature again. UNLESS the creature attacks first! then he will throw it at the creature.
OK, Fazaam is NOT looking for an 'in-group' fight, but we didn't have time during the forced hike up here to chat politely, so Fazaam is unaware of why Roman seems so h@!! bent on destroying the poor transformed gnome, instead of trying to save it. As a player (and a character with an pretty high Int.) I suspect that the critter is beyond salvation, and is just trying to lure us in close for an easy kill. But It's not just a transformed Gnome, it's Fudrick's family. If we can save it we have to try is how Fazaam feels. Knowing that the lid will only do stun dmg makes this easier for me, but I know that most people (INCLUDING ME) do not like inter-party conflict, and I'm just making sure that everyone is aware that I'm not trying to start any! :D
Of course, if I manage to actually hit Roman with this thing, and then the critter attacks him anyway, I'm gonna feel like S#!^E, pretty Stoopid S#!^E to boot! :P
EDIT- Shulim, save Ghari for me! (So he can razz me about it for the next week!) SHULIM BATTER UP!
