I've recently gotten pretty interested in the Planescape campaign setting and since I figure I won't be able to get a game together in real life to do it (limited player pool/limited interest/limited time), I'm considering running a pbp Planescape game. It may be a little while before I can really get started, so this is just to try and judge interest to see if it's worthwhile.
I'd like about 3-6 players that can post around once a day, or at least semi-regularly. If you've never played Planescape before, not a problem: I've never DMed or played it before, but it seems like fun. Like "the philosophy major's D&D". I'm a pretty relaxed DM and I like to joke around (in case you've never read any of my posts), so it'll be a relatively relaxed game full of hair-raising planar adventure.
As I've said, it may be a few weeks/months before I'm ready to take on players and get organized. Unlike my campaign journal, which kind of fell off after a few weeks, I'm hoping a pbp game will have enough interaction to stay consistent. Let me know what you think!

I'm waiting on the Planar Handbook from amazon ($6 used; decent price if all I want is faction PrCs and maybe an update on Sigil).
I like the Exiled/Rogue Modron race from Dragon magazine and I think the Githzerai as presented on planewalker.com is more to my liking than the Monster Manual version. I'm on the fence with the Bariaur on planewalker; I think it's a good representation of the original Planescape versions but I also think they might need a level adjustment. On the other hand, I think a penalty to dexterity and wisdom for males and the large size can offset the strength and constitution bonuses and maybe the fact that armor will be more expensive can offset the natural attack. A male bariaur would be an offensive monster in melee but they would need gobs of hit points to survive with the lower average AC.
You could conceivably play just about anything in a Planescape game, but I want to kind of limit things for when we get started (whenever that will be). I'm thinking about Primes: anything in the PHB, plus the possibility of Drow or another level-adjusted race. Planars: Tieflings, Aasimar, Githzerai, Bariaur, Rogue/Exiled Modron, Humans, Half-elves.
I'm also kind of split on where I want to start. There's Sigil, Balefire from Dragon magazine (which I think is really cool) or maybe an insane wizard's tower in Limbo.
Just thinkin' out loud, cutter. ;)

Shoot. I think they're Fiend Folio.
But now, I want to be a human fighter, viking type, that was in a big battle, and when the battle got joined, he fell down and played dead.
This valkyrie kinda new to her job, picked him up to take to Valhalla, and he explained that he was a coward and wasn't really dead.
So she dropped him off at Sigil, where the gods can't see into, to cover up her ineptitude.

That's both hilarious and awesome, plus it provides a built in hook for later.
I'd like to play, too; I'm feeling more confident about my ability to play. I won't be able to build a character for a while, though, since I'm in the wrong country.

You're certainly welcome. I won't be ready for a while, anyways, so no big rush with character stuff. Just hashing out ideas at the moment.

So, two HD for the entire progression? I'm not too crazy about it, really. My concern is that for those six levels, you'll have a glass jaw since the race/class seems geared ultimately toward melee. My other concern is that after those six levels and maybe four levels of another fighting class, the power level will go in the opposite direction. I won't say no, but I need to look at it a bit more and I would suggest having an alternate in mind.
I'll take a look at the elan, beeler. But I'm not planning to use psionics, just so you know.

No biggie, I figured I’d make him a paladin anyway. Basic concept has him being the last worshipper of an overthrown lawful good pantheon, who was “rewarded” for his dutiful service by the new deities of his prime. One of the two free power points will go toward him not being able to eat, and I’m assuming he’ll mime a lot.
James Keegan |
Well, I like the concept a lot. Your one other power point would go toward either reducing damage or increasing saving throws once a day. I'll consider it. You could also just be a human that doesn't have to eat or drink because of the plate, though I would have you find sustenance elsewhere.
Edit: What if you couldn't eat regular food, but instead lived off of smells and sounds? For example, if you've ever read J. Gregory Keyes' Waterborn/Blackgod and Fool Wolf stories, ghosts take sustenance from wine, insense (probably spelled wrong, but you know what I mean) and songs. So I could imagine your character living off of things like that because of their religious significance as offerings and the belief that they signify; plus, since you're the paladin of a forgotten pantheon and smell is the closest sense to memory, I think it's a nice little literary thing.

I was thinking of alternating my progression in the stonechild monster class with levels from either the fighter, monk or warblade base classes.
Anyways, I am already thinking of an alternative character. Perhaps, a githyanki. Thanks Paizo for Dungeon issue 100.

James, you can take me as an official alternate--if you don't mind me spamming your discussion thread with pornography, that is. You know where to find me if someone doesn't post.
I'm so tempted to start a discussion thread in the PBP discussion called Planescape Discussion--with Spamporn.

I don't think there is a whole PLANE of sex, but I know of a certain lodge in Ysgard where anything goes...
You can definitely be an alternate at least, Kruelaid. I'm hoping to keep a relatively tight group and let folks that haven't had a chance to play a porn by post...err...play by post...have a shot, but who knows? I'm hoping for three to six, but I may go as high as nine if there's a lot of interest (rule of three). I have a lot of reading to do, still and I have to think about how I will handle larger groups.

Does anybody want to be my human vikings' half orc (somewhat fraternal) twin brother?
I'd be interested. It'd give me a chance to play a character I've been considering for a while.
He's a half-orc barbarian or fighter (not sure which one yet) who's dearest wish is to be a wizard. Unfortunately he's not bright enough to be a wizard so he's kind of embittered although basically a nice person. He stills pursues anything that looks like it cold give him arcane powers though.I also might be interested in playing a tiefling of some kind.

Young githyanki rarely have "plays well with others" on their report card, but if you can give me a good back story, I'll definitely consider it. My only issue with the gith in general are those higher HD spell-like abilities.
