My first exposure to D&D, though I had no idea at the time, was on a family trip to Minnesota in around 1975 or 1976, we stopped in at some little store and I got a little bag of plastic monsters. They were just weird little creatures to me, but I rather suspect that the creators of D&D must have bought the same bags of plastic critters and decided to use them in their games and make up monster stats for them, since in looking back at them, one was a rust monster, one an umber hulk, one was a bulette, and I think one or two others also were D&D monsters. Unfortunately I lost them long ago (I know I had and used the bulette at least into the late 1980s), but I still remember them.

In Dragon Monster Ecologies, at the end of the Ecology of the Rust Monster there is a short quote from Gary Gygax about using those exact toys. It even includes a picture of the toy that became the rust monster.

Check it out, only $19.99 SRP, putout by our good friends at Paizo. Hey maybe I should go post a review....

All this talk about writing for Dragon Magazine & playing Car Wars has, I'll admit, made me the faintest bit nostalgic ...

In March 1998, DRAGON® Magazine #244 announced the Terror From Above contest. ...

... Apparently, a young, enterprising, then-17-year-old Clinton J. Boomer, yours truly, thought that the best way to kick in the doors to the world of professional game writing was with sheer, overwhelming verbiage.

You may be waxing nostalgic, but you're making me feel old :)

Sorry! In your defense, I spend most of my time on these boards feeling really young.

*grin*

Just makes me sorry I gave in and cut off the ponytail.

While I am well aware by this point, that nobody really cares to listen to me, as nobody does at the best of times, I shall give in my my natural racial urges to arrogance and self-importance and willfully ignore this fact and assume that you, as right thinking individuals wish to know about the being who will be future supreme master of all of every Reality.

('Course with my track record here, it'll probably be a lot of fluff with no crunch...)

I am a meglomanical Lich (specifally spirit bound skeletal; that means no phylactery and plus regeneration for those of you not in the know) with plans on universal domination and beyond, plus the extermination of every single Vampire in reality (the verminous dinner-suited emo-leeches not fit to be classified as Undead).

Aside from that, I'm a wargamers at heart and my only claim to fame is that I slightly contributed to the recently PDf-published Maneouvre Group WW2 and later wargames rules (though I'm writing my own starship rules for eventualy publication).

Aside from using Maximised Disintigrate on wayward players, stabbing Elves with sharp objects for the funny noises they make, hitting things with rocket launchers (not usually needing to use the actual rockets), my interests include stuff killing other stuff or anything blowing up something else with needless pyrotechnics. And cartoons, (especially those involving stuff killing other stuff or at least blowing it up with needless pyrotechnics), history (or at least bits about stuff killing other stuff or blowing it up and the context therein for stuff killing other stuff or blowing it up) and natural history/evolution (which might seem odd at first until you realise it's actually stuff killing other stuff in interesting ways from before the dawn of recorded time).

And Pokemon.

What? Everybody's got to have one flaw, right? It's like a law or something.

...

Okay, I'm done, you can go back to whatever it was you were doing and pretend like nothing happened now.

For the present...

I care to listen to you! The scary yellowed skull with the blood-red background is a fine indicator of:

Attention! Attention! Post worth reading!

. . . at least as far as I'm concerned.

Also: I share your desire to rid the world of vampires.

Perhaps we could team-up, and then you could betray me at the last second, like in the comics!

Hey, that's pretty cool. Good to know some of us are still out there.

Speaking of which, you know what I discovered recently? Curt Schilling is a big time wargamer. In fact, so much so that he bought the license for ASL and now publishes it via his wargame publishing company MultimanPublishing.

Me? I'll just be happy if I get an article published in KQ.

Unfortunatly, we in the Aotrs don't adhere well to the comic rules, since we have a nasty tendancy to do things realise the value of treating allies like allies and y'know, win most of the time...Comes from things like having the Evil Overlord's Handbook and such taught to all the recruits. (For example, Aotrs threat ratings place teenaged humans - especially girls - significantly higher than demon-lords. We're not dumb!)

So it'd me more like a team-up where the hero thinks I betray you right up to the point where he realises that, actually, no we're protagonists and we've just totally manipulated him with a brilliantly executed triple-blind, with just enough time for his eyes to widen with horror and despairing, helpless defeat before we repeatedly land a Hammer of Hatred heavy grav tank on his dismembered, bleeding body and mush him to humourous, splutchy pulp while laughing manically.

Or something.

I actually had to go and wiki Curt Shilling to be suitably impressed; consdiering he's a baseball personage (and I don't follow sports at the best of times) and I'm from the UK, it is perhaps unsuprising I'd never heard of him. (Assuming there's not two Curt shillings or something...) Advanced Squad Leader, I do know of though, as a fair system that is generally very realistic, but this coming at the price of modelling each and every aspect in detail. Still, unlike a lot of other wargames rules out there, you can at least say you know the deisngers had asked the right rules design questions, which is a very good thing! (I'll try not to expand further, or I'll be doing my typical trick of derailing the entire thread stemming from one of-hand comment again!)

This is simply a subliminal message that most people gained while playing GTA III and tuned to K-Jah. Several of the tracks came from Scientist Rids the World of the Evil Curse of the Vampires.

No, really.

Well, not in my case; first of all I'd nearly rather be alive again than play GTA (no offense to GTA, just really not my sort of game).

Plus, the whole immune to mind-effecting affects thing...
