Mokmurian's challenge rating

Rise of the Runelords

Does anyone with Pathfinder 4 think that Mokmurian's CR seems a little too low

Spoiler:

when one takes his class levels into account?

Sovereign Court

By the book, no.

Spoiler:
14 levels of a non associated class (wizard) adds 7 cr to his original CR of 8

Personally I think CR 15 is appropriate. A group of 15th level pcs should be able to take him.

The Exchange

Spoiler:
I haven't looked to hard at his stats but I think that CR is at least correctly calculated according to the rules. Stone Giants are CR 8 according to SRD, and given that they are more on the fighter side, wizard's class levels add 1/2 per level to the CR. That makes +7 CR for the class levels and an overall CR of 15.

I wouldn't say that! He's a bit sensitive of his height, too.

As posted behind spoilers upthread... Mokmurian's CR is indeed correct...

Spoiler:
Adding spellcaster levels to something that's not a spellcaster to begin with doesn't increase that creature's power nearly as much as adding more combat-focused levels does.

This was my error. I thought stone giants had 12 hit dice.

They actually have 14 HD, but HD and CR do not correlate on a 1:1 basis when it comes to monsters. Sadly, in 3.x rules, they do for human opponents, so

Spoiler:
a 15th level human necromancer with 45 hp is "an equivalent challenge" (and concommitant XP reward) to Mok.
It's one of the things I hope 4e fixes.
