The magic missiles slam into the furred body.
Snarling and snapping the hound presses in on Eugen...
attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
damage 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (6, 6) + 4 = 16
The young warrior falls to the ground, out of the fight and badly wounded as the hound turns its gaze towards... Gyorgy.
Fortunately, for the spellcaster, Mitnal is in the way.
Gyorgy Elberion |
Seeing Eugen fall, I mutter an urgent, fearful prayer and raise the wand once again:
I'm going to back-track through the thread tonight and find out how many charges this wand has left
Jeslara "Jessa" Eventide |
Meanwhile... Nualia, for that is who she must be, doesn't even look down the hall towards Jessa and will most probably walk right by unless Jessa says something.
"Nualia!" Jessa calls out, "Deactivate the trap! We'll deal with the intruders! They killed my cat! And I'll have their heads for it!"
Bluff check to lie and disguise her voice as that of Lyrie... 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
EDIT: Wow. That was timely. I guess this whole disguise thing and faith in Sivhana really is Jessa's calling. :-D
DM Wicht |
I've used four charges from the wand. Do I know how many it had to begin with?
You've got about 33 charges left.
The magic missiles slam into the hound and it howls loudly in pain.
Nualia looks over at Jessa... and is taken in... she looks over to where the howl came from and back at Jessa and then with an exasperated huff turns and heads back to turn off the trap.
Eugen needs to make a check to stabilize. Kenzo can act this round.
The dog flies into the air, level with Mitnal's head, and attacks.
bite attack at mitnal: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 4) + 4 = 9
Trip: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Mitnal is so surprised that the dog is flying, literally swooping up and through the air, he fails to block the teeth and stumbles back and to the ground.
Jeslara "Jessa" Eventide |
C'mon, boys! Things are looking grim in there. Does anyone have healing potions? Now might be the time to use them until Jessa can get there with some healing of her own. Of course, I might have Nualia coming with me...so work faster!
Nualia looks over at Jessa...and is taken in...she looks over to where the howl came from and back at Jessa and then with an exasperated huff turns and heads back to turn off the trap.
Once the trap is deactivated, she hurries across the area Kenzo and the others managed to leap.
"C'mon..." she encourages the goblin, motioning for him to follow, "And draw your sword."
"These intruders made quite a mess upstairs," she tells Nualia as she hurries forward, "They killed the goblin chieftain. And I have no idea where Orik went. But they killed my cat and I'll have their heads for it. Sounds like the dog's found them."
She draws her wand, making sure the illusion makes it seem like Lyrie's wand rather than the Thassilonian artifact from below Sandpoint's Glassworks.
"I can mop things up without you," she tells the girl, "So you can get back to what you were doing and I'll take the goblin with me and put an end to them. When we're finished I'll bring back the dog and let you know. Trust me. They're not going to cause us any more trouble after I get through with them."

Kenzo |
I gurgle a little through the blood in my throat, hoping it sounds brave and encouraging to my comrades.
Kenzo's head clears and he's greeted with the sight of Eugen bleeding profusely. Without taking the time to take in the rest of the scene, he jumps through the air, trying to slam a powerful kick into the monstrous dog.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Damage:1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
edit: crap
Jeslara "Jessa" Eventide |
Nualia ignores Jessa and having shut off the trap rushes to aid her hound in its fight.
'Oh, crap!' Jessa mentally worries. She projects an empathic feeling of fear and worry towards Blackwing so the bird can hopefully warn the others of Nualia's impending arrival...if they aren't dead already. Then, she motions for the goblin to hurry as she chases after Nualia.
Woo-hoo! It's about to get EPIC, everybody!
Gyorgy Elberion |
Mitnal can rage if he wants, also Kenzo can act. I would have to go back and see if Eugen got hit by the divine fire during the day. I would guess yes, but don't know for sure. The perils of long game play.
Nualia ignores Jessa and having shut off the trap rushes to aid her hound in its fight.
I have used it on Eugen, used it on everyone today, I checked.
Mitnal |
I think Mitnal really needs to get up and out of here but he's going to do something really stupid instead.
Mitnal, now prone and angry, attempts to roll closer to the dog and grapple it. He seems to be singing in between attempts to bite the dog.
'Animal Fury' bite attempt (includes -4 for attacking while prone): 1d20 - 6 ⇒ (14) - 6 = 81d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 Whoops, that should have been -4 not -6 so 10 (misses anyhow).
Grapple check (includes -4 for attacking while prone): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
DM Wicht |
Kenzo completely misses the hound, and possibly hurts himself with the kick (Confirm a fumble if you would). Mitnal completely fails to pull the dog within reach of his bite and the beast moves on to attack the one really hurting it: Gyorgy.
Attack Gyorgy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 2) + 4 = 11
Trip: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
The flying hound tears into Gyorgy and sends the spellcaster to the ground. Gyorgy needs to make a will save, DC 14, or be shaken for 1 round.
Meanwhile, Gyorgy cannot help but notice the white haired woman with the strange arm who moves into the room just behind his head. She draws out a sword and positions herself to attack him.
Nualia moves through the door and takes up a flanking position on Gyorgy, across from the hound. Getting to her will require moving through a square threatened by the hound (except for Gyorgy, who is of course already next to her. Meanwhile, the hound does look to be greatly weakened.
Gyorgy Elberion |
Made the will save but it doesn't look good.
Gyorgy Elberion |
I swear emphatically through gritted teeth, resist the urge to flee and instead take a five foot step away from the flying beast and shoot it again with the wand of magic missiles.
Jeslara "Jessa" Eventide |
The timing of this next action is going to be pretty major. Obviously, Jessa wants to help her friends, but not at the expense of keeping the yeth hound on its feet. Thus, if Gyorgy manages to cut down the dog, she'll channel energy, as follows...
Seeing Eugen, Mitnal, and Gyorgy all down on the ground and obviously quite savaged by the yeth hound, Jessa quietly calls on Sivhana's aid from behind Nualia's shoulder, hoping her prayer for healing goes unnoticed in the chaotic fray.
Channel positive energy... 1d6 ⇒ 6
That's the last one for today. Jessa used all the others in our earlier fights. She's still got one 1st level spell she can trade in for a spontaneous cure light wounds, but I figured the channeled burst might be more needed at the moment.
DM Wicht |
Gyorgys on the ground, but he manages to scoot away from the fangs of the beast and unleash another set of magic missiles. These striek the hound who howls and then collapses to the ground, chest heaving as its skin begins bubbling. Kenzo strikes the decaying form, its unatural flesh yielding easily to his blow.
Jessa's unleashed positive energy washes over everyone, healing all in range for 6 points of damage.
Nualia is in the midst of swinging her sword at Gyorgy's head when Jessa does this.
Attacking Gyorgy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
She connects but her surprise twists her blow and it fails to decapitate the sorcerer, catching him squarely on the shoulder instead.
Gyorgy has taken a total of 15 points of damage at this point, after the healing so he has 3 left and is still on his feet, thanks to Jessa. Eugen is back up with approximately 3 hps as well.
Gyorgy Elberion |
Can I stand and attack in the same round?
Standing up from a prone position requires a move action and provokes attacks of opportunity."
So, you could get up and attack someone standing next to you.
However, as you were healed during a round in which you had not acted Wicht might decide that you stood up at the end of the last round. I've seen GMs do that before.
That's a complicated way of saying that you'll have to wait and see what Wicht says.
Shaking with pain and shock I stumble back away from Nualia toward the far side of the room. Ashamed to be hiding behind Mitnal and Kenzo but sucking in lungfuls of air and clutching my bloody wounds.
I am making a withdraw action to get away from Nualia. If tougher member of the party can keep her at bay then I'll pump magic missiles into her
DM Wicht |
Can I stand and attack in the same round?
Standing is a move action. But you can stand and then move into a position to attack (double move).
Mitnal moves into position and clips Nualia, Kenzo likewise moves and allows Gyorgy to stumble out of the combat.
Meanwhile, the goblin stands behind Jessa, confused, trying to figure out who to attack.
Eugen Enescu |
Eugen Enescu wrote:I stand and try to move to an attack position for the hound.Hounds already down, but you can move up next to Nualia with Kenzo and Mitnal.
Oh, good! Yeah, I'll do that. my car broke down in palo alto, so I'm away from home trying to get it fixed and clearly not reading the previous posts properly. Good times!
DM Wicht |
"Who are you?" shrieks the woman as she swings her sword violently at Mitnal, "Interlopers, blasphemers and the lovers of light I wager." Mitnal can't help but notice that her one arm is a red scaled monstrosity and that her bare midriff bears signs of self mutilation.
Attacking Mitnal: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Mitnal barely manages to avoid the sword blade.
technically Jessa has been skipped. She can retroactively act and it shouldn't make much difference at the moment.
Gyorgy Elberion |
I turn sharply in response to Nualia's words and spit back with venom: "We're a grieving child who watched his father die, we're hard-working labourers who were mutilated and tortured, we're a gentle priest who was burnt to death."
Then i trigger the wand and send two magic missiles arcing toward her.
