My plan for Misgivings is to have each level mapped in outline before the session, each on their own battle map. The PCs know the size and shape of the house, so I'll have the exterior of the second floor in place, for example, and I'll sketch in details as they learn them.
I want to keep everything tense, without falling out of initiative. If I had to stop and measure and draw any time they used some stairs it would kill the tension. I'll give them specific breaks, but I want to decide when those are rather than having them imposed on me because I'm not prepared.
i also would love to see those maps, have you exported them as PDFs or other such image?

Like Tbug, I am definitely going to be doing the Misgivings, and for the same reason. That's too important not to do.

That's all I am, friend. Take the Goblin Fort for example.. the grid lines were way too light. I found that out this Saturday. I've just no time to go back and fix stuff unfortunately..
But you get better with practice and application. It also takes a lot of time too.
As a side note, I would lose a lot of time just being unable to find the art in the program. Certain purchased art needs to remain in the folders created for it by the program, where as imported after can be organized the way you want. If you're not careful, you can find yourself really hunting for a particular piece that ypu've already imported and not find it... I am spending some free time on Thanksgiving just organizing. I hope to make the Misigivings something special.
And Dundjinni is slow at times.. <sigh> Doing it Java didn't serve them well. I'm glad the second version will be Windows based. (I never thought I'd find myself saying that...)

Everybody's caught up! I am using the down time this weekend to start some Chapter Two Maps.
God.. I wish I had time and motive to go back and redo the goblin fort gridlines. The faint gridlines were a pain my ass. Did I say that before? Well I'm still thinking it...
You may have qualms about your maps, but they sound far superior to my hastily scribbled outlines on a battlemap.

I totally understand not doing the first two scenes in # 2...really the manor is the only part I'm SUPER excited to see in printed-out form...again, you ROCK :)
Anyone off the top of their head figured out the scale to print them so that the hexes are 5'/mini size? Thx!Unless I somehow accidentally resized them, the original size of the drawing [i]should be[/b] 1 square = 1" inch. That is the base size that DJ uses, and when I export to .BMP that size shouldn't change.
Ebolav, check your printer settings and preferences, and make sure you're not printing at a reduced size at your end.
Also, I'm asked about .bmp's versus .jpg format. I tend to stick with the .bmp to maintain the quality of the image. When GentleGiant merged the Glassworks into one map as a .JPG, I didn't change it back.. but I did keep the rest as .bmp's.
How do you print these out as a series of 8.5" x 11's pages? Very carefully. Sorry, I don't have any tips for doing that.
I'm stumped-I'm trying to print them, and if I print them 'as is' my computer fits the whole thing on one page, meaning VERY small hexes...if I scale the image to the proper size, and THEN print, it's the right size, but only prints one page worth of the image-does that make sense?
I've tried gimp and photoshop, to no avail...

I was able to create a pdf that contained 8 seperate letter sized pages that can be synced together to make the fullsized map.

Just backing up what Elmo said, PosteRazor is free, easy and works great! I printed out a PDF map for Oblivion with all the locations for the main map and I could've printed out a 32page set with the size they made the PDF...with PosteRazor I was able to adjust the output size down to 9 pages and it made a beautiful map. It even gives a bit of overlap to help you line up the pages easily.
I have used it several times to print out Dungeon maps also and it works great!Great program!

I have a new buddy who is a subscriber too, and turns out he lives down the street about a hundred yards (we just found each other on a local gaming board and realized we're practically neighbors). He works for an advertising company, and he's quite talented with graphics software.
He took all of Chapter 2, and scrubbed the tags and brought them up to scale with no loss of resolution (that you see so often in trying to blow up a PDF), and printed them full size and in full color for me.
He's an awesome man.
But I'm left without much reason to do Chapter Two now. I mean sure, I could make a Dundjinni map, but the published maps aren't all that bad..
(cringe) Erian-7 started with the Goblin Maps, and I took it from there.. Someone else might have to carry on the legacy for this thread.
Anyway, another batch tonight, and if someone wants to host the maps I have done- let me know and I'll bless it.

i pulled down my glassworks map because it looked terrible when printed.. which I was afraid of. I knew justing blowing it up without any fractal type plugins would not work well.
Oh well i tried. If I find the time I will actually make nice full sized maps, but do not know when that will happen.

About the Chapter Two Maps... I will pass the comment on to my friend. :)
It will be up to him however. And I will advise him to be cautious. Not because I want to deny you guys, but because I think the two situations we’ve been describing are different.
What I did in Chapter One is take Rob Lazzaretti’s maps and reproduced them in another format (and I credited everybody, and I had an e-mail from a ranking Paizo staff person telling me that I wasn’t doing anything wrong).
What my buddy has done is not reproduced Rob Lazzaretti’s maps, but literally copied them in a different size. Just between him and me, I think we’re fine. We’re both subscribers, and we’re both using them for personal use.
But should he distribute Rob’s maps in this new format for free? I dunno. I see the similarities between the situations, but there are differences. Rob’s maps are part of what you pay for when you by the product. For example: Gary and Vic have said it’s okay to take sections of the PDF’s and give them directly to your players for their personal use, but please don’t distribute them on the internet. After all, Paizo has to sell content to make content. That might include Rob’s maps.
My maps? They’re okay by virtue of clarity by scale, but I’m not a professional cartographer. I’m also filling in a niche in Chapter One. The maps are flattened in the PDF (and actually I have no idea what that means), and they’re not easily scrubbed and printed at a good resolution. James Jacobs doesn’t have the resources to go back and fix them, though he has made sure the maps are easier to work within in future chapters. I can see my maps as being a mostly harmless resource.
But Rob's maps? That might be different...
If I was my friend, I’d want to make sure Paizo didn’t mind first.

Lastly, hosting…
I think Lilith should do it, and I’ve sent her the maps.
Lilith has always been a good steward of Paizo’s best interests. God forbid there is ever an issue, but if there is- she can be trusted to take them down promptly. There’s also a relationship between her and Paizo, and this keeps it in the family.
Another excellent reason? Have you ever looked at her Dmtools.org site? It’s an excellent resources, and one I’m sure she’d like to continue to grow and develop with future player based resources (hint hint). If my maps get her a few extra hits, that might lead to more contributions, I think that’s a good thing. Understand that she does a lot of volunteerism on this board. She hosts the Official Paizo Tuesday night chat, and she posts a log for those who can’t attend. That takes personal time, and time is a resource. Consider hosting the maps my way of saying thank you. So give her site a visit, and if you think it needs more content, send her some!
In the meantime, another amateur cartographer might have to step up now.

I had an afterthought...
I said this earlier, but I wanted to restate it.
If you want to thank me, go out and run a Pathfinder game as soon as possible, and make it the best game you can.
Most of us would like to see the Pathfinder campaign setting and brand be as strong as possible. We can buy stuff, we can review stuff, and we can stick our tongues out at WOTC all day long...
...But nothing will take the place of a really fun game in the hearts and minds other people, who might then spread the word.
That will make Pathfinder strong. It's best 4th Edition survival vitamin we could give to Paizo- regardless of what they're going to do or not do when 4th edition finally comes out.
