Male Human Wizard 2/Sor 1

Slidell is obviously only half-listening to the rest of the introductions, as he scans the square and catalogs the damage in ways that only make sense to him.

He seems to be focusing on High Street where the goblins came from, and Junker's Way where the majority of the public fled too. Despite his searching, (he seems to be looking for someone), he seems unaware of the priest standing on the platform. And Veran seems to be trying to help him, as he is looking off in the same directions.

Veran only got A 13. No spoiler for me!
If someone asks, Slidell does have his light crossbow and 10 bolts. BUT, he is almost out of spells!
Also, once he is brought back into the conversation (forcibly or by his attention wandering) he would also recommend that Naelah take a look at the more serious wounds. (I had started writing that "bandage" post before I realized that I haven't put any points into healing! Not that THAT would slow Sli down any!)

UPDATE-Saw the call for Initiative roll, Sli got a 19 HERE

Female Human (Chelaxian) Knight 1/Fighter 1/Paladin 1 (2)

Initiative (1d20+5=8) What is it with these initiative rolls? Naelah can convert her shillelagh spell into clw. That would be nice right now...

Ehlissa asks Stormraven urgently, "Are you a good shot with that? I hope so." She says (referring to the bow, of course...)

Male Human Ranger 1

Corran apparently isn't very perceptive, as I only got a 15 even with a +7 modifier

For initiative, I got a 13 so that is marginally better than last time. I hope I do better when the dice are rolled once combat starts, lol

Corran offers to help (Heal check +2) if anyone else needs bandaging, although my healer's kit is at the inn, along with my shortbow.

"Hmmm,...What?" Slidell asks, relunctantly dragging his attention from the High Street area.

Ehlissa points to the crossbow hanging by his hip.

"Oh, that." Slidell looks at the crossbow himself, as if trying to figure out if it should be peeking out from under his travelling cloak like that or not. "Yes, I'm not bad. Why do you ask?" He asks Ehlissa curiously.

Slidell brain has skipped a few tracks in the last few posts, (IF you hadn't noticed!) He was actually trying to see if he could spot the man dressed similar to the town gaurd that he had noticed earlier. His brain is trying to fit together puzzle pieces. (Whether they are from the same puzzle or not!)

Male Human (Varisian) Spellthief 4 (XP = 6405) as of 7/28, Wrathspawn and Shrine (10,000xp = 5th level)

Make a perception check? Yeah right. I rolled a zero.
Initiative = 7 (for s%*! sake!)

His attention on seeing familiar faces, Vesh apparently has his head up his @$$ as the action commences...
--------------------------
If no one minds, I'd be happy to run Naelah for this combat until PsiFox gets back.

Just until PsiFox can start posting again. ~santinj@
Initiative = 18

Slidell and Goblins first but then Naelah moves east two squares (to N11) in order to cast Cure Light Wounds on Ehlissa for 9 points as specified by JSL. Veren moves up into N9 beside and behind Slidell.

REPOSTING MAP HERE, so we don't have to flip back a page.

Male Human (Varisian) Spellthief 4 (XP = 6405) as of 7/28, Wrathspawn and Shrine (10,000xp = 5th level)

JSL, can Vesh make an untrained knowledge (local) check--basically an INT check--to see if he remembers passing the place called Savah's Armory that is indicated on the map? If so = 13

Female Human (Chelaxian) Knight 1/Fighter 1/Paladin 1 (2)

If the goblins get to me, and I survive I might well go for 'total defense' (+4 to AC, no attacks). If I can, I'd rather throw a table on its side and shout at Slidell to get behind it and either fire the crossbow or give me the crossbow and he fires off spells. Or... throw her dagger at the nearest one.

Let's not go bananas just yet! Remember, Slidell goes first, then the Goblins and Naelah on the same initiative count. The goblins seem intent on setting the wagon on fire and might not charge us just yet.

If we stick together and coordinate actions (remember to aid another!), we ought to be pretty formidable. If Naelah heals Ehlissa, she'll only be down one hp. We need you on front lines with Corran, or we're all screwed. Naelah is at full hp and so is Veren, and the wolf has teeth. Slidell has one Summon Monster spell in his hat, and he's got the darned crossbow and a 14 DEX! Malcolm is in pretty bad shape and effectively out of commission combat-wise, but if he's not just going to run off, then we need to persuade him to help by getting us weapons (bow, arrows, daggers, whatever) even if it means giving us the weapons he's not using. Vesh is 50-50 melee wise. One hit could easily take him down, so if I'm going in, I need you guys to provide the flanking bonus. Otherwise, someone get me a damn bow. It's time to get a little less role-playish and a little more medieval on their arses!!!

Female Human (Chelaxian) Knight 1/Fighter 1/Paladin 1 (2)

And breath... it's ok, I'm calmer now... you're right.. we can do this!

Male Human (Varisian) Spellthief 4 (XP = 6405) as of 7/28, Wrathspawn and Shrine (10,000xp = 5th level)

JSL: (a) How tall is the raised platform? (b) Is Father Zantus still standing there airing out his pits?

As the rest of you react to the new goblin threat, Naelah walks to the fore, places her hand on Ehlissa's shoulder and utters a few words in a strange dialect that is not quite her native Shoanti tongue. Ehlissa feels the warmth of the natural magic pulse through her skin. Her bleeding stops and her wounds close.

Naelah bows her head slightly and offers, as if by apology, "There are goblins."

Call that the surprise action. Cure Lt. Wounds, but not slow cast 1d8+1 = 8.

Init:
Slidell
Naelah
Gobbos
Corran
Ehlissa
Vesh

Vesh:
The platform is 3 feet tall. There are 6 stairs leading up to it. Father Zantus has not yet reacted to the goblin threat. We'll assume his init is around 10 so he will act after Corran if necessary.

I'm okay with sending Malcolm for weapons. Remember the Rusty Dragon might not be open for business in the middle of an attack. We'll do the following. Malcolm will go off and return in 3d4-2 minutes with a randomly determined ranged weapon and ammo. Due to the 6 second round, that is probably not going to get him back in time for this fight. However, there might be more goblins - you never know, but there usually are... :)

(Hey, how can you level up if I don't throw goblins at you, right)

Male Human Wizard 2/Sor 1

Started to post 3 times, crazy, LATE night!
Questions,
-which goblin on the map has the torch?
-HOw are they aproaching the wagon, slow, cautious (yeah, right) or do we have like 6 seconds before it catches fire? Because I don't see any way we can reach them before they throw the torch if that is their only action. (We can probably reach them before they push the wagon into the new church,)We are just too far away and we can't even charge thru the hay bales/seats according to the rules i just re-read.

And as brave (or foolish) as Slidell might be, even HE isn't crazy enough to throw his low-HP @$$ into the middle of FOUR goblins (and their resultant flanking bonuses), and expect his Mage Armour to save him! (Mage Armor & Shield, ...maybe.)

;P

Waiting for the answer to the questions, I'll post in the morning, when I'm a lil' more coherent.
Sli will probably blurt one of his 3 plans, (Yes, I actually HAVE that many), and then take off, hoping like heck he's not running into the nest alone!

What about Savah's Armory? It's just off the map to the south. Surely Malcolm would know about it if he's been to Sandpoint before (???). That might shave off some time.

I pray to God that one of those plans includes the use of your crossbow!

Ever slow on the uptake, Vesh finally realizes what is about to happen and yells, "Stormraven! Shoot the bastard with the torch! Step up and shoot him!"

Vesh wrote:

...That might shave off some time.

I don't know about that. It's probably locked. And being an armory, it probably has a good lock. If it's not locked, then Savah's probably there. In which case Mal will have to sweet talk her out of a bow and some arrows, since he can't afford to pay for it.

One problem with the 6 second round (other than that it is completely bogus) is that normal actions - even trivial ones - take much longer than 6 seconds. So that means that it is very hard to have normal actions occur simultaneously with combat. The combats are too short. The first fight lasted 3 or 4 rounds. That's less than 30 seconds!

As a concession to keeping the game interesting, I'll let Malcolm return in about 2-7 rounds (I'll generate the number and keep it secret.) That gives you a small chance that it will still be during this fight. Otherwise, it will be before the next fight.

Malcolm will return in round:

Spoiler:

6

Raises hand Corran is that stupid... um... I mean impulsive.... or is it brave? ;-)

Male Human Wizard 2/Sor 1

Vaugely aware that somewhere, a familiar voice is yelling, Slidell sees the goblins and thier obvious intent. He quickly forms 4 plans. He then just as quickly drops one as being too foolhardy, (even for him) and another as unnessacarilly flamboyant (even for him). The remaining 2 used either his last (decent) spell, or the crossbow.

"If you plan on dying, don't die with a single cantrip left uncast. If you plan on living, always keep ONE spell handy, just in case." My Master always said. "Oh no you don't", he mumbles aloud.

Slidell flips his cloak open, fully revealing the crossbow slung by his hip on a shoulder strap.
He snags it, c@cks it and loads a bolt with practiced surety while speaking at his normal, rapid patter.
"Veran, Distraction. I've got the torch-bearer. If you with swords will be so kind as to indulge thier bloodlust, I'll cover your approach. Naelah, they don't like dogs, let Veran have fun. Vesh, cover ME. Try to stay in pairs. Oh, and Vesh?" he says as he raises his crossbow and sights down the bolt,...

"DUCK!"

I will wait until Vesh REGISTERS what I've said and ducks in place so I have a clear shot past him. I have Sli firing from his current square, because I think that loading a crossbow is a move action? (Tho I could probably take a 5' step?) But this angle prevents the torch bearer from getting the wagon as partial cover, and with an 80' range, i dont really NEED to move. If it looks like 'torchy' might get partial cover from the wagon, I will take a 5' step next to the low fence at M11.
Veran will double-move to the roof at D21, so he has the roof as cover when done, and prepare to dive bomb as distraction next round. (IF he REALLLY needs to!)

Rolled a 14 to hit, 3 dmg if hits

Aaaaaaand,...we're off!

Slidell Stormraven wrote:

Slidell:

Your aim is good, but not good enough. The bolt draws to the left, striking the cart and sending splinters of wood flying. One of the goblins looks in your direction with alarm.

Good roll, but the target had cover from the intervening goblin and the platform. Naelah and Veren next, though again, post out of order if it suits you.

Female Human (Chelaxian) Knight 1/Fighter 1/Paladin 1 (2)

In conjunction with Corran, Ehlissa will engage the most threatening goblin.

Ehlissa turns to Naelah if possible and says "Thank you" quietly with feeling; she looks to the field of battle and her eyes grow cold. "For The Lady!" fighting challenge against nearest goblin cries the noblewoman, and launches into the fray.

Roll to hit, roll to damage (1d20+4, 1d8+4=[4, 4], [4, 4])

Well, that would be a miss then...

Question for JSL: I am sometimes confused by move actions in a round. Naelah moves 7 squares a round, Veren 10. If Naelah and Veren hustle (moving twice her speed for the round), is it possible for them to cut an arc north and then west around the hay bales to end up at the tongue of the wagon? With Naelah ending up at D14 and Veren at C14?

HERE is what I was thinking. I didn't bother plotting Veren's move.

If the answer is yes, then that is what I'd like for the two of them to do. The rest of you have got to do what you can to try to keep the goblins away from the wagon as long as possible until...

For the rest of the party (not so much for JSL, but I don't really care if he reads it):

Spoiler:

...Naelah can cast Create Water right above the torch bearer. She's got to get within 25 feet.

Yes, you can double move, but not take a standard action. If you have a swift action, you can take it. Go ahead and write it up IC w/ the final positions you want. Gobbos next!

As Naelah finishes healing the young warrior woman named Ehlissa, she hears a commotion on the far side of the square. Seeing goblins pour around the wooden conveyance that she's just learned is called a wagon, she catches Slidell moving furiously with his crossbow as Vesh is shouting to him to shoot the torch-bearer.

In a flash, Naelah knows what she must do. Uncharacteristically, she yells to Veren in a firm voice, "Veren, Nerev sha! Shta khesha, sho nhath!" Even the wind blows swiftly--and with fury--at times!

As Slidell fires his crossbow, Naelah darts out to the north, and clearing the hay bales, turns west to stop at the hitch of the wagon (at D14), croutching and waiting for goblins, Veren covering her back (at C14).

In Shoanti:

Spoiler:

"Veren, follow me! Stay close, my friend!"

Goblins:
Seeing you, one of the goblins shrieks, then bounds forward, a sling spinning rapidly in its hand. Clenching its knife in its teeth, it vaults on to a hay bale and lets fly at Corran. The shot is high and wide and lands against the building behind you with a resounding thud.

Goblin sling attack +3 (FF AC 17) RESULT= 11 (miss)

A pair of goblins circle and attack Naelah, one running wide to the north and the other sprinting under the corner of the platform. As Naelah and Veren react to the first goblin, the other leaps towards her, swinging wildly. From where you stand, you hear her scream and see a river of angry red form across her side and back. The goblin giggles and licks its blade.

The north goblin double moved wide around Veren. The south attacks at +5 (AC 15) RESULT = 18 (hit) damage = 7

The fourth goblin watches Slidell's crossbow shot with a look of bemusement, then lobs his torch in a graceful arc into the wagon. The bone dry tinder explodes in a flash of orange flame casting flickering shadows about the square. Laughing in delight, the goblin moves closer to the flaming wagon and kneels to remove blocks from its wheels.

Corran next? Ehlissa probably can't get into melee this round, so feel free to double move instead of your stated attack.

MAP

Female Human (Chelaxian) Knight 1/Fighter 1/Paladin 1 (2)

Cheers JSL, thanks for that. I shall indeed double move.

Ehlissa cries "For The Lady!" and charges into the fray.

Insert long string of vulgarities here: ________________!

Naelah's down to 2 hit points, and her plan will no longer work. I didn't count on the wagon exploding the very first round!!! These things are dead! Hopefully, before I get PsiFox's character killed.

Male Human (Varisian) Spellthief 4 (XP = 6405) as of 7/28, Wrathspawn and Shrine (10,000xp = 5th level)

Suddenly, action and danger convulse around Vesh, and for the first few seconds he is rooted in place--even as Slidell yells at him--until shaken from his stupor by Naelah's scream.

Dagger in hand, he runs towards the wagon as it explodes. Vesh pays no attention to the conflagration, his eyes are squarely on the goblin that struck Naelah. For the third time this evening, he lets his dagger fly...

Vesh advances to G13 and throws his dagger at the goblin at E15.
Attack = 10 (good grief!!!)
Damage = 5

I see my luck continues.

I know Corran has to take his R1 action and Slidell his R2, but I don't know when I'll be able to post later, so...

Veren lunges at the goblin in front of him (at C13).
Attack and Damage = 7 and 7 respectively. I'm not bothering with the f#$%!ng link.

Naelah spins and trys to hold off the Goblin attacking her.
Naelah goes into Full Defense to get a +4 dodge bonus to AC and waits for the cavalry to show up.

Male Human Ranger 1

Double Move to get to F5. shield and sword at the ready for next round. Hopefully kneeling over to unblock the wheels might draw an AoO next round.

"For Sandpoint!"

Corran wrote:

The wheel un-blocker is at the other end of the wagon. Do you want to go to E17 instead? He will draw an AoO if he fiddles with the wheels or tries to stand up. As is, he has penalties for being on the ground, but can still attempt to attack.

Also, Ehlissa: do you want to go after the nearest goblin or go to help Naelah.

Female Human (Chelaxian) Knight 1/Fighter 1/Paladin 1 (2)

That's not even a choice - I'm helping Naelah with every fibre of my being. I can't abandon her to torture and death ;)

Ehlissa turns in horror to see Naelah fighting for her life, "NO!" she shouts at the top of her lungs, and runs towards the druid to aid her.

double move to F14

NEW MAP

Slidell's turn...

Male Human Wizard 2/Sor 1

Wow. My turn already? That was quick, PbP-wise.)

"No. No No No NO!"
Seeing Nealah hurt triggers something in Slidell he didn't even know was there.
For the first time in his living memory. He acts without planning, considering, or thinking.
He runs full tilt towards the wagon, the forgotten crossbow bouncing on his hip.
As he passes the goblin gibbering and jumping on a hay bale he doesn't even slow down. He raises his right arm, and without any visible effort, gesture or speech, a blue-green pulse of energy flies from his palm to strike the goblin full in the chest, the acid blob splashing as the goblin flies off the bale.
Only Vesh was close enough to see the pulse of light that ran down Slidell's arm from shoulder to hand, showing THROUGH his shirt. The pulse of light outlined the Thassilonian runes of his Varisian Tattoo. It also seemed to shift as it passed, leaving the image of a,... serpent?
Slidell continues running past, closing with the wagon, his attention on the wounded Naelah.

Game stuff-
Slidell moves From square M11, Thru L12, K13, J14, I14,
Where he fires his Acid Burst at the goblin in I17 as a Supernatural ability.(standard action that does not provoke an AoO. The spell gives no save & no SR applies)
Rolled an 18 to hit, and 3 damage.
(THAT should make up for the crossbow shot earlier!)
He then continues thru I14, H15, and ends in G15. 30' movement.
(I THINK thats legal & correct?)

Female Human (Chelaxian) Knight 1/Fighter 1/Paladin 1 (2)

Ehlissa is on fire with righteous fury at seeing the kind, quiet girl being set upon, "You're mine!" she shouts in the goblin language at her latest foe. fighting challenge

2-handed attack (1d20+4=16) Damage (1d8+4=9)

Slidell Stormraven wrote:

[ooc]I count this part as 5 squares M11>L12 (1) L12>K13 (3) K13>J14 (4) J14>I14 (5). The odd diagonals count 1 and the even diagonals count 2. With one more square of movement you can move north or east one, but not diagonal since you are on "even" for your diagonal count.

Also, I do not believe you can use the ability during movement unless it is a swift action. However, there doesn't seem to be any difference in using it from your end position (which I've adjusted to H14) so the in character description is fine.

Slidell:
The goblin screams in anguish, its chest a smoldering mess of flesh and armor.

Naelah and Veren:
See posted actions above

Goblins:
The acid-blasted goblin runs towards Slidell waving its knife ferociously and striking a glancing blow.

Attack at +3 (AC 16) RESULT = 19 (hit); damage = 1

The goblin who threw the torch forgets about the blocks in the wagon wheels rolls on its side, striking Corran in the leg with its knife.

Attack at +1 (prone vs. AC 19) RESULT = 19 (hit); damage = 1

Another goblin lunges at the wounded Naelah, who bats away his knife with a nifty turn of her staff.

Attack at +5 (AC 19) RESULT = 12 (miss)

The final goblin yells something and swings at Veren, slicing the wolf across the snout.

In goblin:

Spoiler:
Bad dog! Bad Dog! Sit! Heel! Die!

Attack at +3 (AC 14)RESULT = 15 (hit); damage = 1

He then tries to back around, but is careless and leaves himself open to an attack by the wolf.

Tumble +6 (DC 15) RESULT = 14 (fail) see dice roll above.

I'll let sub-Naelah roll the AoO. Please roll the trip attempt d20+1 (wolf) vs. d20+2 (goblin), too.

I will update the map after the trip attempt. Only the goblin attacking Slidell has moved at this point (to H15)

Sorry for the delay. I just put the kids down, and I'm brewing Stout today.

Veren lunges at the open goblin, but misses. Attack (bite +3)= 5; Damage = 7

Love that Invisible Castle!

NEW MAP Next is Corran, then Vesh. Ehlissa has already posted.

Male Human Ranger 1

Full attack, hit a 20 with my sword, and an 11 with my shield I'm assuming the 9 pts of damage from the sword is sufficient though.

Corran throws an overhand slash at his opponent.

Male Human (Varisian) Spellthief 4 (XP = 6405) as of 7/28, Wrathspawn and Shrine (10,000xp = 5th level)

I won't be able to post Vesh's actions until tonight, after the kiddos go down. JSL, which gobbos on the maps are still up and active by the time Vesh can act?? I am thinking that Ehlissa and Corran may have taken their gobbos out, correct?

Male Human (Varisian) Spellthief 4 (XP = 6405) as of 7/28, Wrathspawn and Shrine (10,000xp = 5th level)

Disregard my previous post.
--------------
Vesh, sword in hand, spins around Slidell's back to get at the goblin that charged him. Vaulting over a hay bale (at I15; Tumble check = 14), he lands on his feet (in I16) and swings at the goblin.

JSL: Let me know if I need to make another Tumble Check to avoid any AoO's I incur from the little bugger.

Attack (flanking) = 6; Damage = 3

Vesh just might run himself through with his sword . . . but he'd probably miss! 5, 4, 1, 11, 7, 10 , and 3 . . . Ladies and gentlemen, my last seven unmodified d20 rolls (the last two attacks being the 7 and the 3). Thank you, Cleveland! Good night!

Vesh wrote:
JSL: Let me know if I need to make another Tumble Check to avoid any AoO's I incur from the little bugger.

You can get there without incurring AoOs by moving as follows. G13>F14 (1) F14>F15 (1) F15>F16 (1) F16>G17 (2) G17>H16 (1) for 6 squares total. But you still miss - stupid imaginary dice :(. Slidell's turn. Go ahead and post Naelah/Veren, too if you want.

Naelah falls back to D-11, and collapses onto the hay bale in obvious pain from her wound.

Veren, smelling blood, has other ideas. He lunges at the goblin at B-16 and bites deep (Attack = 15; Damage = 4). Veren, his teeth sunken into the goblin's leg, pulls the creature down with a shake of his head (Veren's trip +1 = 16 vs. Goblin's Dex +2 = 13).

Male Human Wizard 2/Sor 1

The goblin, it's chest still hissing from the impact of the Acid Splash, leaps over the hay bale and swings its odd-looking weapon. He draws sparks from the mystic shield around Slidell as he manages to pierce it, barely, and wound the skinny wizard's leg. The goblin hops back in anticipation of the expected outburst, inadvertently giving it the benefit of avoiding Vesh's acrobatic attack by the sheer luck of not being where he was expected to be.

Slidell stops. He glances at his now-wounded leg, and slowly looks up to the goblin.
"Alright short, green and ugly," He speaks slowly and deliberately, his face now a stony mask. "NOW you've gotten my attention. Let's see how you like it!" He shifts his almost forgotten staff from where it has been hanging by its strap on his shoulder to a two-handed grip, and begins circling the persistent little pest while feinting with both ends of the staff.

Slidell uses the earlier-mentioned "AID ANOTHER" spell, er, action, to help Vesh perforate the persistent pest!
Rolled a 15
Don't know if any bonuses apply. (Hm, should've used that as my attack roll! hehe.)

Thanks for the vote of confidence, but (if I'm reading this correctly) I think Ehlissa has dropped her goblin ... at least I hope she has; I based Naelah's actions on that! I think she's within striking distance, and that's why Vesh went around your back, so as not to get in her way.

I've got some random thoughts posted in the discussion thread.

Female Human (Chelaxian) Knight 1/Fighter 1/Paladin 1 (2)

:( Did I take down the gobbo? We went right to the next round, and I am none the wiser... Put em out of my misery... ;)

Sorry for delay - work again

Corran:Your downswing catches the kneeling goblin flush across the shoulder sending him down into a widening pool of thick blood.

Ehlissa:The goblin responds to your fighting challenge with a gibbering tirade cut short by a gurgle as you run him through.

In goblin:

Spoiler:
What you say, crazy girl! Me eat your ...<splat>

Vesh:You sprint past Ehlissa, darting behind the goblin attacking Slidell, but it scampers to the side, eluding your blow.

Next round

Slidell:
You swing at the goblin, drawing its attention and setting up
Vesh for what you hope is a telling blow.

Naelah and Veren
See post above

Goblins:
To the north of the wagon, you hear the fallen goblin tussel with Veren.

Goblin attack at +1 (down; vs. AC 14) RESULT = 6 (miss)

The other goblin lunges at Slidell, but its blade is turned aside in a shower of mystic sparks.

Goblin attack at +3 (AC 16) RESULT = 11 (miss)

NEW MAP

Corran, Ehlissa, Vesh...

Don't know if any bonuses apply.

You make a regular attack vs. AC 10 and we now get a +2 bonus to hit the thing.

PLUS the usual +2 for flanking, if I'm not mistaken? I repeat,..."GO Get'em Vesh!"
