Apologies for that rather intemperate post... work has been a bit of a hassle this week - but yesterday ended on a high.

Hope you are all well.

No, I think you bring up a good point, and without going into a detailed response: (1) I think it should be avoided unless absolutely necessary, and (2)...I forgot what "2" was.

Anyway, I apologize if I have done so before, and I will try to avoid doing so in the future. I think that's all I was going to say, but I've had so much food in that last 24 hours that there's not enough blood left in my head for my brain to function properly.

Happy Day After Turkey Day!

...and i think that this sounds reasonable.

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

Haha, glad you have had a good Thanksgiving - my other half lives is in Oklahoma and so I wish I was enjoying the festivities too (despite being a redcoat and all) ;D

This is a great group - I'm glad we can discuss stuff in an adult manner.

Hey! OKlahoma is my old stompin grounds before I married the Southern Belle from New Orleans!
Whereabouts ya'all are?

As far as the other subject, I do apologize if it (putting actions in your name) has given you or anyone else Consternation, as I freely admit to doing it in my novel-length posts.
BUT, in my defense, I only did it as a reaction to what I knew would be considered outlandish actions by my character, and I tried very hard to avoid putting words in too many peoples mouths. (I used a quote from an earlier post from Malcolm, and I just plain made up something from Vesh because I thought he would forgive me, and it was funny in my head.)
But I will try very hard to avoid doing it anymore. (NOTE- I WILL try, please dont hate me if it happens OCCASIONALLY)

And yes, ate too much good southern cooking in New Orleans yesterday,...brain still recovering.
Happy After Turkey Day to all!!And to all a good,....BURP! (Excuse me!)

Male Impoverished Student 2/Amateur Chef 3

No problem. I like your novel length posts. They'er funny (and I can use all the humor I can get).

Ehlissa wrote:

Ehlissa regards the wizard with narrowed eyes, What a buffoon! To openly boast about such terrible things, even in jest! And he thinks I believed him! Such arrogance...

She gives him a smile as he continues... Well, his own hot air seems to have fogged up his senses; I wondered if old Lady Perdasta's lessons on poise would come in useful. And now it has.... Yes, flash him a warm smile. I will find you out, wizard... the others may be blind with your 'charm' to the danger you pose but if you should betray us, I shall not falter in bringing you to justice.

Ehlissa is the soul of courtesy with Slidell henceforth at the meal, but refrains from further in-depth 'conversation' with him.

Yes, Ehlissa is completely biased! But of course she'll value him as a comrade once we face down the BBEG

I like this. Despite your having to jump thru hoops because of actions typed by another,...(Guilty hangdog expression, re-expression of earlier post to try very hard NOT to do it again!) I think this type of party inter-action is excellent, and that (character's) biases should be used!

I am NOT a big fan of interparty conflict! (WE are supposed to be the GOOD guys!) But I always thought that people from different races/cultures would probably never get along as easily as they always seem to in D&D games and related novels.
But somehow it always happens just a little too easily. Rather how like a character taken from 20th century earth and plopped into a medieval society in another planet/time/universe only takes about a page and a half to adjust to his current situation in most novels!

I probably haven't been expressing it very well in my posts, (due in part too my attempts to make Sli as outlandish as possible,) But i am not just trying make Sli as much like (Insert your "favorite Dr. Who actor here") I am making up a lot of this as I go, but Sli has some very deep-seated issues. Not the least of which are insecurity and self-esteem.

(I'll give you a meta-game hint, since this group is pretty good about separating personal knowledge from character knowledge. Sli told the truth about his mentor sending him away. But not ALL of the truth. Questions you could ask should follow the thoughts of: Why did his mentor send him so far away? Did he do it to protect Sli from something? Or was it to save him for personal use, or even for more,...sinister reasons?)

In short, (TOO LATE!) I love this groups' ability to interact, the way we play the characters off of each other, and they way we can, and have, discussed everything in a friendly, non-competitive fun-for-all fashion.
In that vein, if Ehlissa is biased agaist mages in general, or Chelaxian mages because of family history, let's roll with it! Seeing as how most people he has met have either liked him, or at least tolerated him, Sli will either take Ehlissa's attitude and
1) Take it as a challenge, and attempt to win her over, or,
2) become very reclusive around her, perhaps even become afraid of her.

And to be honest, this guy is so confused, I don't even know which way he'll go yet!

Sorry so long so late at night, I just wanted to throw this in real quick!

Thank again all, I'll see you all again in a couple of days!

Happy After Turkey Day & "Game On!"

You are a true gent, Rags.

My gf lives in Norman - which is a bit of a pain, as I live in the UK. :( BUT she is coming over here for 2 weeks in January :)

Who knew there was such a big Oklahoma connection! I...don't have one. Funny note, I was thinking "hmmm, gf. Grandfather? Must be Grandfather. But, then "she is coming over..." Nope not Grandfather. Unless he's 'in transition.' Hmmm. Not likely."

It took me almost five minutes to figure out the gf was girlfriend. Good grief.

Ah, My old Hometown is the Tulsa Area, very close to Norman/OK City.

If I may ask, where/how did you and your GF meet? There is a bit of a distance involved there!

And have a happy visit! ;P

Getting into next week, I'm planning to wrap up this dinner Sunday night or Monday AM, so if anyone has any plans for what they are doing in Sandpoint for the next day or two, please let me know. Depending on how many people want to do specific stuff (e.g., "check out the XYZ") vs. general stuff (e.g., "wander around and window shop") I'll see where we are going for next week and beyond.

The "award ceremony" is in a couple of days, but if no one has pressing business that will take more than a post or two to resolve, we'll advance the timeline pretty quickly.

Male Impoverished Student 2/Amateur Chef 3

Sir Mal will look into getting some masterwork studded leather but other than that his only plans involve basking in his heroism and getting to know his new companions better. Oh, and I'll inform them about the man who will fence our loot from the goblins.

Naelah may take one or two of the others out into the wilderness directly beyond Sandpoint, if only to demonstrate her love for the natural world. Likely candidates would be Sli, Vesh, and maybe Corran (who's links to the natural world are almost as clear as hers).

After Sli recovers from whatever mental afflictions he has inflicted upon himself after this dinner,...

One of the FIRST things he will want to do is checkout the grave site that was robbed during the attack. I'm sure that after a day or more has passed the 'trail' will be cold, but maybe he can "sherlock' another clue out of the site.

He would also like to check out the caves nearby and see these strange symbols for himself.

Still feeling the frustrating limits placed upon his mystical abilities, time permitting he will go shopping for a couple of scrolls (Or pen them himself as discussed earlier), and a few other useful alchemical items, since a wand of even a first lvl spell is still out of his reach.

I'll let you know more after I review our first few posts and the clues I started out with!

We received a reward of 200pp from the Mayor with our letters, correct? That translates to 200gp, yes?

Just checking.

Lol, considering she has only really interacted with Sli and Vesh, they get invites. Corran only rates a mention because he looks like one comfortable with nature.

Don't feel left out. Ehlissa didn't get a mention either - its not a slight, she just doesn't know you. Although, you could always ask - it might put you in good stead...

I believe it was 15PP, which I think translates to 150GP???

Ok. First and second level scrolls should be pretty easy to come by. See my post on p. 6 for determining price. Also, let me know what spells you learned at 2nd level when you have a minute.

Cool, Thx.

I hope to be able to lvl up by tonite. If not I should at least be able to tell you what I added to my spellbook, and do the skill adds et al asap.

:)

Sorry I have not been able to post for a couple of days. I had to deal with an unexpected vehicle repair yesterday and I have an urgent home repair to do today. I will be in Seattle again on Thursday. Then hopefully back to normal (such as it is) on Friday.

I will try to post a brief update later this afternoon, time permitting.

No worries here, but thanks for letting us know.

I was about to post and ask if everyone was alright. It seems like all of the PbP's that I play/watch seem to be suffering from post-turkey re-start disorder!

Good luck with the repairs. Those pretty much keep me in the red on a regular basis.

See everybody soon!

Dark Archive

Urgent home repairs are no fun. I was replacing my kitchen faucet the night before Thanksgiving as my wife was baking pumpkin pies. Nope, not fun.

Dark Archive

Thanks for the check-in JSL. Hope things get sorted out. How 'bout everyone else? I haven't seen Talion09 post in a bit. Everyone else okay in the real world?

Male Impoverished Student 2/Amateur Chef 3

Yep, still here and well.
Hope you get your repair stuff sorted out quickly and inexpensively.

Yep. Still Here. (I guess that's good?)
I run an auditorium for a University. End of semester stoopid/crazy busy.
But no home repairs! (I rent an apartment currently.)

Don't worry JSL, I don't think we're going anywhere anytime soon!

Quite possibly just in time for folks to get back into the swing of posting on a regular basis, I am leaving on Sunday to go to California for a week!

I will have occasional access to other people's computers, so my ability to post will be curtailed somewhat. However, I should still be able to post just enough to get Vesh through this meal comfortably--can we finish this section by the week after next? I know this is a really busy time of year, and please know that I prioritize real life over the game as well. I'm just curious to see if we can jump-start ours before we get closer to Christmas.

I'd like to see how Corran and Naelah respond to the "what brings you to Sandpoint" question, even if being silent is more "in character." Vesh has pressed Corran, but probably is too self-conscious to do so with Naelah. If she needs a nudge, perhaps Ehlissa (who is good at it) could do so? Or, Slidell as her longest acquaintance? Forgive me for being so forward, it'd just be a shame to spend so much time RPing a dinner and not really advancing our characters' in-game knowledge of one-third of the party. Does that make sense? I'm not trying to be bossy, just trying to explain what I'd like to see.

This dinner and the forthcoming heroes ceremony--or whatever it is--seem like good opportunities to really have the party come together in a more cohesive way. I'm not trying to force anything, and I'm really not suggesting that anyone change how they're playing their character. This is intended to be more of a nod to the slow-down and a recognition that we don't have to wait for JSL in order to advance the story--at least at this point.

Oh, and Rags...I'd cheer for Slidell, too.

*cheering*

See?

Male Human Unfortunately, I appear to be an Expert, not anything cool :-(

Sorry about the delay in Corran's responses at the dinner. I'll get that written up and posted right after this.

* I got a promotion at work recently... which has dumped a few other projects on my plate, so my workload has almost doubled. (My pay hasn't doubled unfortunately, lol) Anyways, I kept on pushing back posting since I was at work so much, and then I realized that it has been a week <sheepish look> but I think I have everything under control now.

Male Impoverished Student 2/Amateur Chef 3

Well, congrats on the promotion, I guess.

Dark Archive

Hey! Congratulations on the promotion. That's always good news this time of year!

P.S. You all may not have noticed, but it's civil war week in Oregon. In fact, the game is today! GO DUCKS! (we're going to need divine intervention, but) GO DUCKS!!!

I'm back now and nearly caught up. But I'm still going to be really busy until the 19th with a couple of big projects that have to be wrapped up this year.

I agree with Santinj@ that we should get this dinner wrapped up pretty quickly. Also, I hope that others will have a chance to share somewhat of their stories or at least engage in some side conversation.

As to getting things jumpstarted, this phase of the adventure is pretty unstructured.

I have the option of several combat encounters, but I have been hesitant because the structure required for combat can be burdensome. On the other hand, at least people know when they are expected to post and check in frequently to make sure they're still alive.

Alternately, there are some things the PCs can do/investigate around town. The meeting at town hall can also be moved up and I can get through it pretty quickly if the RP is slowing things down.

So far only Rags has posted intended action that would necessitate interaction with an NPC. Do the rest of you want interaction, or would you like the next few days to fly by until the next big thing?

I too would like to build some momentum heading into the Christmas holiday, so let me know how fast you want to take it and we'll get moving.

Male Impoverished Student 2/Amateur Chef 3

With the rest of the group's agreement, I plan to sell the loot from the goblins to that fence that I made contact with but mostly I'll just bask in my new heroic stature.
I'm cool with either doing more RPing in the town or moving along to the next structured part of the campaign.

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

I am in favour of moving quickly on to be honest.

Dark Archive

Arc: go ahead and sell the armor and dog slicers, but I'd be up for resizing the arrows--just my two cents.

Male Impoverished Student 2/Amateur Chef 3

Okay, will do.

Dark Archive

And the Ducks go down in double-overtime. *sob* I think Vesh will get drunk in honor of a season that never was. *sob, sob*

The ironic thing is, I'm looking for a new job at OSU. I'll probably neglect to mention that I'm a Duck fan if I get an interview.

Not that anyone outside of the Pacific NW cares. SO...

Vesh will tag along with his new friends for as long as they'll have him. He'll either help Slidell investigate or take a nature-walk with Naelah. If neither of those things pan out, he'll snoop around Sandport and try to shadow the Chelaxian "guard."

I am also happy to fast-forward any, or all three of the above. And, by fast-forward, I don't mean to just the next combat encounter. Combat is fun, but it can get bogged-down as well. I just mean to the next scene.

santinj@ wrote:

So even a Ducks fan has to go to OSU to get a job. Hilarious! (Says the OSU alum likely moving to Eugene w/i 2 years).

The Paizo boards have been a bit laggy for me today, but I will try to finish the dinner this weekend and speed things up next week.

Come on down! The granola's wonderful.

I promise the rest of you that I'll stop the Ducks-oriented commentary after this story (at least until regular-season basketball starts!):

I just got back from taking my boys to a local burrito joint. The place was full of Ducks fans on their way back from the stadium. One guy spent the whole time I was there talking to his wife on a cell phone. He was telling her to look at the replay of the final play on TiVo or something. "Look at the official on the north side of the field!" He kept saying. "Nevermind Stewart, look at the official at the north side of the field. He looked like he was going to spot the ball one yard into first down territory before the Beavers fans rushed the field!" My son (who is 2 and a half) was just staring at him, half eaten bean and cheese burrito in his hands. I was trying not to laugh.

Then, this guy in an OSU jersey walks in with his son who is decked out in Ducks gear. I swear, you could almost hear the music from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly start playing. If his son had been in OSU gear too, things might have played out differently!

To be honest, I've no idea what you're talking about (I don't follow sports of any kind.)

santinj@ wrote:

I'm in NorCal, so it would be up. But anyway, the Civil War beats the "Big" Game any day. The SJ Mercury college sports guy listed it as the best Pac-10 rivalry on account of equal shares animosity and relevance. It helps that the two schools offer completely different programs so you really will get more families that have ties to both schools than you do here where you can get all the same degrees at Cal and Stanford.

One thing I'm wondering after reading the recap is: who was the idiot who committed a 15 yard penalty on the late UO field goal attempt? I hope they yank his scholarship. What a freakin' moron! Can't be a Dennis Erikson recruit - that was too long ago now. But still, just what you'd expect from some JuCo guy (Appologies to readers who happen to have done sports at a Junior College for two years, then transferred to a bigger school and majored in being Chad Johnson). Probably mispelled his name on his SAT, too.

You *should* have won on the re-kick from 40 yards...

JSL wrote:

Yes, until the FG unit takes the field when the QB is trying to spike the ball! Speaking of which, how 'bout that fifth-string quarterback. He showed some guts. If Roper goes down in the bowl game, they're going to have to recruit a QB from the band.

Okay, NOW I promise...

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

And this is why my eyes glaze over when my girlfriend talks about how she and her family watch every single OU game. Apparently they played Missouri last night, and apparently it was quite important. :D

OU's stadium holds the same capacity as Wembley Stadium in London...

Wembley is our NATIONAL stadium. The US is amazing in so many ways...

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

I think a certain wizard MAY, just MAY get some form of grudging respect from a certain swordswoman. ;D

I'll rp an "it seems I misjudged you" speech at an appropriate point.

After re-reading my post, it seems that what I MEANT to say (tho it seems to have gotten across) and the way I said it didn't quite,...mesh.

"...a distant land called 'Karma'", catches my eye,... :P

So,... I'm leaving it. It is most definitely a 'Slidell moment' :D

I'm not a sports fan either, thankfully neither is my wife. BUT, we do have to watch every Saints televised game, because, you know, that's apparantly what you do when your from New Orleans.
:P

@Santinj-From earlier, just what job are you looking into at OU? Just curious. :D
