Almuric?

Planet Stories®

Anyone pick this up? I recall enjoying the tale via the old Marvel magazine "Epic".

Liberty's Edge

I had the first two or three Epics with Almuric in there. The art was phenomenal.

And here I thought Almuric and siblings were fodder in the first Adventures of Samurai Cat book...

No one has picked it up yet as it is only now headed toward the printer. We've been working with the Robert E. Howard estate and are looking forward to getting this bad boy in stores very soon.

I missed the Epic adaptation, but it sounds like something I would enjoy. Samurai Cat, perhaps not so much.

Liberty's Edge

Cool. If I ever make it to Gen Con, I'll have to remember to bring them. I had the first few; then I lost my job (in 8th grade...) so couldn't finish the series.

Marvel did a fantastic job! Of course I first met Conan through a Marvel comic. I look forward to reading the story as Howard wanted it when it hits the shelves.

You may be able to dig up those old Epic magazines. I bet a few comic stores may have a few in the back someplace.

All depends on your tastes in humor, and of course now the references are rather dated. (Samurai Cat, that is.)

Anyone know why this has been delayed again? I have really been looking forward to this and other Planet Stories, but if they are going to keep delaying printing, then it does not bode well for this line of products. Since I am familiar with Howard's other works, I thought I would get Almuric first, so I could judge the quality of the print and recommend it to others. I could have started with the Anubis Murders, but Gygax is not my favorite author, and I wanted to read more of the pulp fiction from the time of Howard. Gygax is a newer author. I wanted to read some of the older ones.

Negotiations with the Howard estate took much, much, much longer than we had anticipated, due in large part to our contact over there moving to another job on the verge of closing a deal, etc. It's all very boring and none of it has much to do with our ability to get other Planet Stories books out on time, but it has been frustrating.

Happily, we seem to be about a day away from getting a contract, which means the book will soon come out!

I should note that if you're looking for pulp-era fiction in the Howard vein, I strongly suggest picking up C. L. Moore's Black God's Kiss, which is available now. Most of the stories therein were written in the mid 1930s, and many of them were published in Weird Tales magazine alongside work by Robert E. Howard, Clark Ashton Smith, and H. P. Lovecraft.

It'll help to tide you over while we all wait for Almuric.

Thanks for the information and input. I am sure negotiations for these things sometimes take longer than anticipated.

How did the negotiations go?

I have a contract on my desk I plan to sign Monday, and I should have a good idea when readers can expect the printed Almuric to arrive by the end of the week.

Yay!

Robert E. Howard would have been 103 years old on January 22nd. All hail the king! (... or one of 'em, anyway ;) )
