Just when I was about to do a total revamp of my home-brew world you guys come out with a setting that has just hooked me. I admit I was so upset when those venerable institutions left your purview that I hadn't been paying much attention to Pathfinder. When I received it though, I was simply blown away. I can really feel the back-story here, and feel that we have very similar world building influences including Howard, Lovecraft, Smith, Dunsany and the early greats. Now I'm torn on whether to continue my own world or just allow you to do the hard work while I enjoy the fruits. Kudos to you gentlemen and ladies of Paizo, this is superlative work, and for the first time in a long time, I can barely wait to see each new tidbit as it comes out.

Wow! High praise, thanks EA. Wait till you see some of the places the GameMastery Adventures are heading in the coming months and the Varisia Gazetteer in Pathfinder #3.

Making campaign settings is too hard. Leave it to us. (Switch, switch, switch.) ^_~

Put the Pathfinder world into your own world, that's the fun of homebrew, you can borrow anything you want for your own campaign and as long as you rename it (in the case of MAJOR borrowing) no one would ever now they were doing something different. ;)

I've got similar concerns. I'm running a game in my homebrew world, and I've already started planning the next game for the same group. The next game will have some connections to this one, and the paths might cross a bit, the new heroes might hear about the exploits of the old ones etc.

I really enjoy creating homebrew worlds, but it's a lot of effort and I'm just one GM. I've never run a non-homebrew world and I'm a bit iffy about starting one. My main problem is that if I leave my old world, there's some things established there that just can't be carried across in tact. While, if I stay in my homebrew world, it's more effort to bring Pathfinder into that world.

But, as mentioned, making campaign settings is hard work. My plan at the moment is to see the game I'm running through to the end, then start the next game in my homebrew world and run that until it's finished. By that time, 4th Edition will be out, as will Paizo's third adventure path. If they switch to 4e, then I'll start in the Pathfinder Chronicles setting with the 4e adventure path. My reasoning is that I won't waste the planning I've done in my homebrew world, and that introducing new rules and a new setting should go nicely hand-in-hand.

That said, I'll also be introducing a few things into my homebrew from Pathfinder, such as the goblins, some weapons etc. And I'll still be subscribing to Pathfinder and GameMastery in the mean time to learn more about the world, get inspiration, and so on.

I am too busy creating NPCs to create a world. Let Paizo do the heavy lifting. You can always nip and tuck the pieces you want changed.

Yeah, all the fine detail that really brings a world to life, such as NPCs for every shop, a variety of fully detailed towns and cities, politics and interactions between powers, and so on all take a lot of effort. When it's just me doing it in my spare time, or the brilliant Paizo team doing it as their job, it's pretty obvious that they'll be pumping out higher quality stuff much more consistently and quickly than I could alone.

Only reason I didn't jump straight in is because I'm tied down to my world in some ways; namely the effort I've put into it, the current adventure, and the fact that there are things going on in that world that still need to be resolved. Once all that's said and done, I'll be more comfortable leaving it all behind (but bringing elements of it into Pathfinder). And I sort of feel like, if there's a new world for the new rules then that'll help my players (and myself) make sense of things. Instead of having questions like "Where did all the gnomes go?" or "Why can't this NPC do what he did before?" everything will be new, so I think it'll be an easier transition. Those questions are a bit exaggerated, but you get the idea.

Anyway, I don't know if any of this actually counts as advice, or if it helps EA, but it's helped me work my thoughts out by posting here, so thanks for making this thread :)

Yeah, a part of me really wants to run a campaign set in Golarion, but I've already invested so much in my homebrew that my players would kill me. ;D

I love my current campaign and I think it's the best I've ever run (and the first one I've kept a campaign journal for), but Pathfinder has gotten me really excited.

Goblins, undead, giants and a big evil wizard sounds very generic at first, but your work reinventing all of these elements in the context of a unique setting full of great NPCs, settings and conflicting cultures makes the whole package sing with originality. I can't wait to run this someday.

Hell, I am strongly considering killing my Age of Worms campaign to run a Golarion game, so the clarion call is sounding far and wide.

I've already issued the death sentence for my current campaign.

Good stuff guys, you continue to impress.

I WANT to run Pathfinder (or possibly D0+D1+E1...) but unfortunately, that isn't in the cards for at least a couple months.

We had just gone through a DM switch in May, and one of our group that doesn't usually DM is running us through some adventures in his homebrew.

But as soon as that is done... <evil grin>

I'm relishing the idea of Pathfinder, the Runelords Item Cards, my collection of other Item Cards, my 5-pack of Player's Guides and my collection of laminated Map Packs, the handouts composed of images cut from the PDFs...

And to think they normally complain that I don't do enough handouts ;-)

Since I was going to Gencon Anyway, I just waited to purchase all my pathfinder/game mastery goodies there. So after a brief sojourn with
Jeremy Walker (Thanks Jeremy!), and a whole lot of reading. I caught the bug as well. I proposed shifting our Greyhawk Age of words campaign over to Golarion (which I got pleanty of positive response after handing out the player guide to peruse). Seems we might be doing that. It'll work nicely now because we're only 3/4 of the way through A Whispering Cairn, so I just have to fit Diamond Lake into Golarion.

Then I've got a whole new list of adventures to play with :-D. Just trying to figure where I can jump them into the RotRL. Though with the events last night, the party may be headed for disaster anyway.

I don't mind if you kill so long as you complete the journal!

Oh... no worries there. We haven't played in over a month (thanks, Gen Con!) so the journal's still only one session behind. I'll get it written by next Thursday, which is our next game.
