ha ha ha. DM's can be such a bunch of ...

Your worst fears are realized as the cornstalks explode outward as a shambling, skeletal scarecrow lunges towards the group; its wooden hands end in filthy pointed tips, and its eyes burn with an eerie, luminescent orange light from under the brim of its wide and tattered hat.

Chalen & Bobek make a Will Save DC 12; Failure means you are unable to take actions but defense for you are fascinated by the creature before you

Someone give me initiative; The scarecrow is 25 feet from Bobek and Chalen, 45 ft from everyone else. It goes on an 11

The Exchange

It's someone else's turn. I'm going to bed!

M Human Scout1

Bobek's eyes open wide with wonder: "That scarecrow is dancing... FASCINATING!"

Will Save 5 + 2 = 7

Male (5' 11'' 150 lbs.) Human Sorcerer 1

Chalen’s initial shock quickly turns to enthrallment as the scarecrow advances (Natural 1). A thin line of spittle runs down the side of his mouth before some of the initial fear creeps back in, and he manages to throw his crossbow up before him as a crude ward.

Initiative = 11 (+6 = 17 for Chalen).

Waiting for initiative from the group, someone can roll everyone's (chalen already rolled his), if not I will roll it for you guys tonight/tomorrow morning.

Barbarian (berserker) 3; Init +1; AC18; Hp 36/41; Saves Str +5, Con +7; Passive Perception 9

Initiative rolls to save time. I think Louinor and Bobek have different initiatives to those listed. I have used what I think is right but perhaps you guys can check your stats and make sure your initiatives are on the ball.

Chalen 11+6=17
Bobek 15+2=17
Louinor 8+5=13
Oso 11+2=13
Malleon 9+3=12

All right everyone gets to go before the scarecrow thingy . . .Bobek, and Chalen can make actions but cannot attack.

Male (5' 11'' 150 lbs.) Human Sorcerer 1

Any kind of action that doesn't involve whacking it?

If it's allowable, I'll back up behind the front line and cast Resistance on Oso, in case this thing tries its fascinate crap again.

Chalen wrote:

Chalen casts a spell; Oso feels oddly fortified.

Barbarian (berserker) 3; Init +1; AC18; Hp 36/41; Saves Str +5, Con +7; Passive Perception 9

Still male though?

Oso Legumbe wrote:

Eh, you're right Oso. I must have changed my Dex stat without updating the initiative. I fixed it.

Bobek stumbles back in a daze, unable to take his eyes off the creature. "What an incredible beast! He'd be truly fearsome, if he only had a brain..." Bobek pulls out his shortbow as he retreats backwards.

Female Human Cleric 1st

Louinor jumps back as the scarecrow lurches out of the dead corn field, "Hey!! Curse this dreadful day, now a bloody scarecrow." She grabs her morningstar and shield and waits.

Barbarian (berserker) 3; Init +1; AC18; Hp 36/41; Saves Str +5, Con +7; Passive Perception 9

Oso steps in at the devil creature and slashes at it with his longsword.

Attack roll 5+5=10, Damage 6+3=9 or not.

He howls in frustration as the badly timed blow whistles down at the scarecrow.

Male Human Fighter 1

"Damn it!" Malleon swears as Oso blocks any potential bowshots by rushing in. I'm starting to hate this place and its weirdness. Maybe I should have stayed somewhere with human bandits to start making my name...

"Die fiend! Die"

Malleon rushes in, dropping his bow and drawing his sword.

I hit a 20, but only for 4 pts

Oso steps forward and unleashes a mighty swing that whistles harmlessly past the monstrosity. Malleon uses Oso's attack as a diversion and plants his sword deep into the odd creature's gut. Wood and stuffing pour out, but it seems not to register any pain.

The beast does take note of Malleon however and smashes out at him with a wooden, clawed hand. 1d20+6 = 15. The beast just misses.

Chalen and Bobek, I made a mistake. You can take no actions as you are afraid/fascinated by this beast. Chalen you did not cast resistance. Sorry

Restart initiative

It's all good.

Chalen drools in stupefied horror.

M Human Scout1

Bobek reflects that he must have crow's blood under his skin... because he is scared. Scared... of the scarecrow.

Female Human Cleric 1st

Louinor jumps back as the scarecrow lurches out of the dead corn field, "Hey!! Curse this dreadful day, now a bloody scarecrow." She grabs her morningstar and shield and levels a swing at the bizarre creature and misses it's head by nearly a foot. "F~*$ I hate this day." she screams.

Attack 5

Barbarian (berserker) 3; Init +1; AC18; Hp 36/41; Saves Str +5, Con +7; Passive Perception 9

What about the archmage in scarecrow disguise. When does he get a go?

He already went. He goes on an 11. He missed Malleon. Your turn. Besides it is not an archmage, it's a half-construct beholder.

Barbarian (berserker) 3; Init +1; AC18; Hp 36/41; Saves Str +5, Con +7; Passive Perception 9

Missed that. No wonder the razorcrows are laughing at the scarecrow if it's that minor. Oso is attempting to set up a flank.

Oso swings for the creature's neck, moving to one side as he goes.

Attack roll 12+5=17, Damage roll 8+3=11.

Male (5' 11'' 150 lbs.) Human Sorcerer 1

After Malleon's turn, I shall continue to drool.

Chalen wrote:

lol

Barbarian (berserker) 3; Init +1; AC18; Hp 36/41; Saves Str +5, Con +7; Passive Perception 9

Did Oso hurt it?

Oso Legumbe wrote:

Oso unleashes a devastating slash upon the creature, cutting through wood and straw alike. The force of the blow causes the creature to stumble, but it quickly regains its balance. No pain, no sound escapes its lips.

Male Human Fighter 1

As the creature stumbles, Malleon takes a quick step to mirror Oso's movement and flank it.

Then, taking his longsword in both hands, he delivers a mighty overhand chop.

"Caiden Cailean's name, fall already!"

I hit a 16 armor class with the flank bonus, for 10 points of damage

The beast staggers from yet another blow, but still keeps its feet. It lunges at Malleon and rakes its hands across his face in grizzly fashion. 1d20+6=18; Dmg 1d6+3=7; Malleon takes 7 points of damage - Malleon make a DC 12 Will Save, if you fail

Spoiler:
you are frightened

Louinor's turn

Female Human Cleric 1st

Louinor swings her morningstar as the monster is tearing into Malleon's face but due to her weakened state fails to do any significant damage.
Attack 10-1 = 9

Barbarian (berserker) 3; Init +1; AC18; Hp 36/41; Saves Str +5, Con +7; Passive Perception 9

Oso swings high aiming for the creature's neck and shoulders.

"Watch the grass for more of them," shouts the paranoid barbarian.

Attack roll 10+3=13, damage 4+2=6, (last round he only did 10 points of damage)

The beast seems to be adapting to the party's tactics. It swats away Louinor's attack with a stray swipe of its wooden arms, and manages to sidestep a vicious blow from Oso.

Chalen and Bobek still stand in a stupor.

Malleon's go

Dungeon Master wrote:

Curses!

Male Human Fighter 1

Malleon reels backwards and collapses, blood spraying from the raking blow to his face.

Well, that definitely dropped me. Minus 4 HP now, and currently bleeding out.

Female Human Cleric 1st

Seeing Malleon collapse to the ground Louinor grabs her butterfly medalion and knees next to the bleeding man. "Desna please heal this man and help us defeat the terrible monster on this terrible day."

Casts Cure light Wounds by trading in Summon Monster
Heals 6+1 = 7 damage

Barbarian (berserker) 3; Init +1; AC18; Hp 36/41; Saves Str +5, Con +7; Passive Perception 9

"How dare you, foul crowbeast!" rages Oso.

He tries to cut the creature down, slashing its legs.

Raging attack roll 9+5=14, Damage 7+5=12

Hold those thoughts guys. It is actually the scarecrow's turn again. It hit Malleon, Louinor missed, then Oso missed, then Malleon let us know he was felled . . .so it goes again. I will post soon.

The beast turns its attention and its claws to Oso. It lunges forward slamming its wooden claws down in a wide arc. 1d20+6=11 The claws connect solidly but are unable to push past Oso's armor and Oso escapes unscathed.

Going on your last posted actions

Louinor rushes forward and lays a healing hand on Malleon; Malleon stirs to conciousnessI am going to house rule that it takes 1 round to regain your wits, so no action this round.

Oso bellows in rage and delivers another telling blow nearly severing the odd creature's legs in 1/2. The beast is beaten, tattered, and ambling at an odd angle, but it still presses on.

1d20+6=10. Oso's fighting ability proves to keen. With a few deft swats of his weapon he manages to fend off the scarecrow's talons.

Louinor, Ose, Malleon, and then the baddie

Female Human Cleric 1st

Lounior stands after healing Malleon. Gritting her teeth she swings her morningstar at the creatures head. "Die damn you."

Using my 20, I am going to hit some thing in this encounter.
Confirm Crit 19-1 = 18
Damage 1, 8, - 2 = 7

Burned my 20 on a whopping 7 damage.

Barbarian (berserker) 3; Init +1; AC18; Hp 36/41; Saves Str +5, Con +7; Passive Perception 9

Red eyes, flashing and a wild roar as Oso brings the sword up from the ground in a savage circle finishing just above Louinor. Whether or not Louinor has saved us, the sword goes through the strawman.

Attack roll 16+5=21, Damage 3+5=8

"Die!"

Hey guys, the enemy has fallen. Unfortunately (for the game, not me) I will be on a cruise for the next week. Sorry for the late notice, I kept meaning to mention it, but forgot. I will divvy XP and move on after then. I hope to post again before christmas. I wish you and yours a happy holiday, good gaming, and, of course, health.

Male (5' 11'' 150 lbs.) Human Sorcerer 1

Chalen crumples to the ground in a heap.

That’s certainly never happened before.; glad I brought clean pants.

Those brats better be so rich I’ll never need to leave town again.

Male Human Unfortunately, I appear to be an Expert, not anything cool :-(

Malleon is going to spend the holidays slumped on the ground, thinking about how his near-brush with death ;-)

Barbarian (berserker) 3; Init +1; AC18; Hp 36/41; Saves Str +5, Con +7; Passive Perception 9

Oso grins at Louinor. He clasps one of the girl's shoulder and nods grateful for her help.

"Well done," he adds simply.

"I finally hit something, maybe the day is looking up." She walks over to the downed scarecrow and gives it two swift kicks for good measure.

"Is everyone OK?"

Barbarian (berserker) 3; Init +1; AC18; Hp 36/41; Saves Str +5, Con +7; Passive Perception 9

Oso points at Malleon, "he is hurt."

The wounds on Oso's arms have reopened showing that he too is much weaker than he behaves.

The black warrior goes back on guard, he takes out a whetstone and works at a few nicks in his sword.

I am back. I will post tonight or tommorrow, including xp awards.

This kills me guys, because I loved this PBP . . . I imagine you guys would be great in a tablegame . . .but due to real life I probably should just cancel this PBP.

Nothing serious, I have just been insanely busy. I apologize because this has been a great game, and I really loved the gusto that people played their characters with.

Anyways, I will see you guys in the chats and on the boards I am sure, but I just wanted to apologize because I hate ending a quality game.

Thanks,
Matt

Spoiler:
SNEAK ATTACK!!! . . .i have a problem, I can't help myself ;)

Grand Lodge

Male Nurse/Father

Not a problem, I just joined Aubrey's new Eberron so this works out just fine.

** spoiler omitted **

I am very sorry. Oso was one of my favourite PCs on the boards (and off) but I understand Last Rogue. Its just a shame.

For players who want another game?

Spoiler:
Now for the shameless bit. I would like any of the players to consider joining the game I am DMing. Its called the Splintered Isles and while it was set up over Christmas I am looking for a few more players and you guys were great. I am sure we can bring a few of you in if you are interested. Cheers.

Let me know on the discussion thread.

Male Humanoid Expert 2 / Magewright 1

Definitely a good game; can just place it on unspecified hiatus if you’d rather. Either way, hope things go smoothly for you IRL. :)
