4th ($) Edition is Coming!!!

4th Edition

According to ENWorld they are about to announce 4th edition in a couple of hours. If you go to Wizards web site they have only the count down to 4adventure. So I guess it's true what people having been saying about 4th edition is on its way.
To me this explains why they have been pulling all their licences, either way I'm not sure I'll buy into it, been playing since 1982 and Dragon was always one of the big draws for me into the game. Now that they have slain Dragon, I'm really not interested.
I may change my mind but I've got a ton of 3.0 and 3.5 books and now no monthly support for the product.

Not to sound like I'm complaining, but there are already several threads on this..so...

Seriously?!!? Thanks for the update! Wow, sure glad you thought to run right over here and post without checking to see if 30-40 other people already posted that info. But the $ in the thread title was nice. Did you come up with T$R back in the 90's too?

I did check and didn't see any other posts on the subject and the $ was originally a typo but It worked and I stuck with it. Go ahead and be an ass Sebastian because it works for you so well.

($) as a typo??? seriously

It was a typo when I typed 4th edition as $th edition. Ok, my type-fu was weak and I did remember the T$R thing so yeah I'm not claiming brillance here, but I've been out in 100 degree temperatures all day working to come home and find out this bit of bad news.
Also, it was probably out of line and I'll see if I can change it, but it does rub me the wrong way (the whole 4th edition thing).

Salintar -

Thanks for the info...and I think some of you need to take a "chill pill". Relax - deep breath in, deep breath out, repeat x 5. :-)

Last night I noticed that the D&D / WotC site was down and it appears to be the same this morning. During my afternoon run yesterday, to blow off steam from writing grants, my buddy and I were talking about it. He plays in my campaign and is somewhat looking forward to 4e because of the streamlined skills, but other than that not much interest on his part. Now, he's 26 y/o....being 36 y/o myself and playing since '79...I can understand the hesitancy on his part (from his generation) and mine.

Salintar's "$" in a way is quite apropos considering that it will require lots of "$" down the road to build-up a 4e D&D library, if someone so chooses. Sadly, Dragon and Dungeon mags have come to there end and I haven't opened the past four issues of each...too sad. :-( I've invested a lot over the years, as I'm sure 99.9% of the people on the boards have too, from 1e to 2e to 3e to 3.5e and now to 4e? I'm not sure I will make the change, probably not. I'll buy the books for my young kids and nephews so they can start their library but my 13 y/o nephew was honestly in tears when he heard that Dungeon had been cancelled and this is right after he returned home from winning the county soccer tournament. He thought it was so cool when he started getting Dragon and Dungeon in the mail, but I transferred him over to Pathfinder and I hope he finds it fun too.

Well, off to a research seminar, but regardless I am looking forward to seeing how this all evolves. It will be interesting to read comments a year from now about all of these events.

They have announced 4th edition.

Silver Crusade

so when is 5th edition coming out??

I mean come on they already have 3 book slated for 4th, hell that enough to warrant a 5th ed isn't it??

sarcastic comments to someone who owns a ton of 3.0/3.5 books.

I have no idea if I will buy into the 4th edition. Perhaps if the changes make sense or the betters the overall game. I hope that the books for 3 and 3.5 don't become useless as I am one those that probably bought to many of the books. I personally like a large list of skills as I feel that gives characters better development. I guess I will just have to wait and see what the end product becomes. Grumble, grumble (looks at empty wallet).

I'll have a pretty good idea after tomorrow whether I will buy it right away or wait. If they've simplified the rules I'll be tempted to buy it to make it easier to teach to my children.

To be realistic, I guess it's going to be simpler (or to lack something, depending on one's viewpoint) in the beginning, when just the basic rulebooks will be available. Then, it's going to grow more complicated at an exponential rate as new rule supplements become available... Finally forcing you to set for only a subset of all the available rules and books, tailored to your liking.

Just like, er, all of the previous editions.

And that is the end of me giving money to WotC. That's all, it's been a blast, but I'm over it. I'll be reverting to my house-rule 3.25 game and all the 4th ed can go hang.

I said the same thing when World of Darkness ended and new World of Darkness started. After playing Changeling the Lost at Dexcon though, I finally have to give in.
