Sorry to nit pick but I just read this.
Ride-By Attack [General]
Benefit
When you are mounted and use the charge action, you may move and attack as if with a standard charge and then move again (continuing the straight line of the charge). Your total movement for the round can’t exceed double your mounted speed. You and your mount do not provoke an attack of opportunity from the opponent that you attack.
Does this mean that I wouldn't have provoked an AoO from Vanin?

Yup, you are correct sir. Wish I had the 2 rules-lawyers in my group to lean on like usual. They can quote rules with a page number with no problem. Seems like this has been a little messy.
Please adjust your profile to reflect this.tdewitt274 |

Please adjust your profile to reflect this.I always understood this to be like Spring Attack where you need to move afterward to gain the benefit. It is worded pretty vague...
But then, I'm in the stands eating my popcorn.

He actually attacked at 10'(lance is a reach weapon) out from Vanin then moved adjacent to him so he did continue his move after his attack.
Rurin Songsmith |
The gnome's eyes widen as Vanin takes the mighty blow and he quickly scoops into his scroll case and steps over to his wounded ally, making use of the item to restore his health.
5-foot-step to D9, drawing the scroll of CLW and casting it on Vanin. Someone will have to roll the healing total for me as Invisible Castle is blocked at work for me. :(
False Arenamaster |
Rurin fails to intone the words to their full effect. 1d8+1=2
Vanin is healed of 2 damage.

Suckage. At least I tried! Also, Spartacus is my Dodge target, making my AC against him 26 (not including cover, which I guess would make it 30).
Spartacus |
Lance attack and damage rolls (1d20+11=15, 1d8+6=11)
A miss. I take a 5-foot step directly south.
Logan Gibbs |
Vanin Ironheart |
Vanin takes another swing at Spartacus and connects solidly this time, knocking out the mounted fighter.
"Huzaah, the wicked shall fall!"
Vanin attacks Spartacus:1d20+9= 24, 2d6+9=20
Nilgaar |
Nilgar gets to his feet letting his crossbow dangle from the Lanyard attached to it and moves further into the arena while uncoiling his chain, grapsing it in both hands, and taking a few teasing swings with it before he gets to R-2.
"Watch them doors, boys!" he yells to his allies still standing. "Holy pig crap! That was a wicked hit! Looks like, ol' Sparky may be done for."
For False Arenamaster only:
Disenchanter |
Spartacus is down with 32 lethal and 10 non-lethal damage.
My turn to nitpick.
12 From Vanin, 5 from Logan, 20 from Vanin is 37 lethal, with 10 non-lethal. (Same effect, different numbers that might matter later.)
Rurin Songsmith |
Rurin frowns, pulling another scroll from his pack and intoning it upon Vanin once more.
Yet another scroll of CLW on Vanin: 1d8+1=7. Much better this time.

I missed the 5 from Logan, your numbers are correct.
Jathali pick a different location to move to, Bitey is in Q7. You could move to O5-Q6, or Q8-R9 instead.

Garash Gnarlwood |
Sorry Spartacus, I don’t see any way I can get to you and heal you this round (or possibly even next) – you’re just too far away, and with a guy with mean reach standing over you. The way I see it, I’d need a full round movement (run) to reach you, retrieve a scroll, and cast a spell, suffering at least three AOO on the way…
Garash Gnarlwood |
Garash moves to space N2, whilst Bitey moves to M3. Both are careful to stay out of the reach of the enemy human’s polearm.
Once there, Garash casts a spell.
For Nilgaar and Jathali:
“What’d ya hear at da door?” Garash asks Nilgaar. “Ar, neva mind, we’ll deal wid it later, let’s take dis guy wid da big stick down. Shuldn't be too ard.”
False Arenamaster |
Spartacus need to roll to see if he is still in the saddle (75% chance) and a stabilization roll to see if he stops bleeding.
All the arena doors open with a loud grinding noise. The form of a large centipede is visible through the middle door's opening on the red side of the arena. A similar form can be seen in the shadowy doorway of the western most blue side door. Both of the creatures turn to look into the arena for prey......
The large monstrous centipedes go on initiative count 17.
LOGAN (25) B
MONSTROUS CENTIPEDES (17)
VANIN (16) B
NILGAAR (13) R
HEINRICH (10) B
JATHALI (7) R
RURIN (6) B
GARASH (5) R
SPARTACUS (4) R
Garash Gnarlwood |
“Huh. Centimapedes. Stole me trick,” mutters Garash, trying to rack his tiny brain for what he may know of such vermin.
Knowledge, nature check = 1d20+2 = 19
“I’ll take it or you lot can, up ta you. Can’t emapthasise wid it tho.”
Logan Gibbs |
"Foul arena masters of Hades! There had better be a large purse to the victors after this damn trick!"
Logan hurdles over the low wall, and positions himself between Varin and the other team.
"Tend to our large friends wounds, we will need his strength soon, I am afraid."
Logan reloads his crossbow.
Standard action - reload crossbow.
Spartacus |
Stay in saddle roll (1d100=91)
I stay mounted, but without me to guide it, my mount will avoid combat. Fake Healer should decide where my mount runs off to.
And I don't think I need to make a stabilization roll. I have 37 leathal wounds and 39hp. I'm unconscious, not dying. But just in case I missed some damage somewhere, here it is:
Stabilization Roll (1d100=18)
The Beast -Terin |
Blue centipede skitters forward on its multitude of legs towards the first thing in the arena that draws it's attention and tries to deliver a bite with its mandibles, missing the agile human. moves to E7-F8 and bites at Logan.
Red centipede scurries over the low wall towards its first visable prey, a very large elven monk, attempting to take a chunk out of his leg. moves to S8-T9 and bites at Jathali, hitting for 1d8+1=5 damage. Jathali needs to make a DC 11 fort save or take 3 points of dexterity damage.
Vanin Ironheart |
"Thanks, friend; I'm feeling much better."
Vanin reaches into his pack, retreives a scroll, and casts it upon himself.
Vanin casts a scroll of Cure Light Wounds upon himself: 1d8+1=8.
Also, I beleive the centipede provoked an attack of opportunity from Vanin. If so, here is the attack: 1d20+9=28, 2d6+9=21.
(wow, should have saved that one for the evil guys...)
"Hang in there, Heinrich; We're coming!"
Nilgaar |
"Now it's fun time!"
Nilgaar charges Heinrich, ending his movement in 0-6. He has a -2 to AC, but +2 to his attack roll.
1d20+6=17, 2d4+3=8
Whacks him with the chain, but doesn't draw blood.
