Dammit! I just got the result for the exam I took in June; I failed, and I put a lot of work in, too. :-( That means 6 months of my life gone, and another 6 months will be gone while I prepare for the retake. Crap.

Still, while I’m disappointed and annoyed, I’ve managed so far to avoid falling into a major fug by telling myself “It’s only an exam; it’s only an exam; it’s only an exam; it’s only an exam; etc”. No doubt I’ll get to sleep late tonight. :-(

Not being sure that the insurance company will cover said storm damage since I was stupid and did not get flood insurance. If said insurance company does not cover the damage, then I will have to go get a loan and I am around $37k in debt right now. One of my paychecks goes to cover said debt and I am working overtime as much as possible to reduce said debt. ~grimaces~ This may mean me picking up a part time job during the weekends that I am not on call. great. Just great. ~sighs~ What to cut? ~sighs again~ The PF Maps and Cards will be cut tomorrow. No matter what, I will be keeping the PF AP and the Planet Stories subscriptions. ~sighs~ Thanks for listening everyone.

Wow Sharoth, sorry to hear about the storm damage. :( I hope you're able to get yourself back in the black soon.

I don't know where you live Bill but it's like that every day here in Texas during the summer. Every freaking day.

~wry smile~ Well, I am on call this weekend and every other weekend until October. Plus I am sure that I can poach some more on call weekends from my coworkers. ~grimaces~ Unfortunatly, that money was suppost to go to paying down my credit cards, NOT to pay for house repairs. ~sighs~ Oh well. At least I am having some extra money coming in, so that will help out some.

I'm in the Garden of Corruption State. Thankfully, it fell a few degrees short of the prediction. I work in NYC and have to walk 9 blocks to get the bus home and there is surprisingly little shade between the tall concrete heat-traps there. There are lots of stinky sweaty people crowding the sidewalks, though.

Had to close down the station early AGAIN. This time, it was because one of the regulars pumped $900.00 worth of gas (which he re-sells illegally).

Also, the outside temperature topped out 102 degrees Fahrenheit, and as a result, the computers in the gas pumps were malfunctioning. Also, because of the outside heat, the indoor coolers were working overtime, and overheated (a little counter-intuitive, but it happened). THIS caused the auxiliary vents to kick on, boosting the INDOOR temperature up to match the OUTDOOR temperature. If we had turned the air conditioners off, the temperature inside would actually have been cooler than outside. I had to stuff all the candy bars into the coolers with the beer to keep them from liquifying, and at the end of the day, some of the beer cans were bulginig ominously (we have to keep them in an un-refrigerated storage room).

THIS IS F+&+ING NEW YORK. IT IS NOT SUPPOSED TO GET THIS HOT. WE ARE NOT EQUIPPED TO TAKE IT.

Hey, for the North Country, anything above 90 is cause for businesses to close. Of course, it routinely drops below -20 during the winter, so I guess there's some sort of balance...

It's amazing how expensive weddings can be. I wish you luck with getting something saved for your wedding.

My advice, FWIW, try to think outside of the box, and look for ways to make unique, creative, and meaningful, without being so damn expensive (the routine wedding).

The place we were looking at for our reception was originally $350. They CHANGED THE PRICE and is now $350 FOR 3 I*^&(*$^(*%@*(*%^*(@&#_) HOURS!!!!!!!

Mrs. Zombie and I paid for our wedding ourselves, so I feel for you. It's a big business, and with tough economic times, the prices are going to jump.

When we got married, we at least lucked out on the church. Both sets of parents were parishioners at the same church, which qualified us for the parishioner price for the ceremony.

Yeah...you'd think prices would fall, but NOOOOOO.

We're non-denominational (She's Catholic and I'm Agnostic), so a church is unfortunatly not an option. :(

Used to be that you could get married at a the side altar if one of you was Catholic. But that goes back a whole lot of years.

Covering whilst the boss is on vacation sucks.

A person calling off multiple times(if they bother) and I have to arrange coverage with few resources. Our purchasing system is locked down tighter than the Fed Bank, and surprise facilities needs still pop up, forcing us to search for ways that still conform with Sarbanes-Oxley. S-O sucks.

No extra $ to cover this BS sucks. Longer days suck.

Helpless people suck.

Catholics are allowed to marry other Christians if there is no danger that the marriage will persuade a person to fail to practice their faith. They also prefer that the Catholic party in a mixed marriage be required to agree to raise their children as Catholic. A marriage between a Catholic and a person who is not baptized must have the permission of the bishop.

Of course the biggest pre-req is that your future wife has to actually be part of and actively participating at her church.

Facilities Design and Administration. Used to do similar work for a bank, 'til all the mergers squeezed us out.

Sad thing is that we're dealing with S-O and increased auditing procedures, along with switching to all-electronic systems to make the former issue 'easier'. Throw in micro-managing mgrs that don't set up designates and back-ups as they should and the whole thing grinds to a halt.

I manage the CAD (architectural) plans for our buildings, the Computer Aided Facilities Mgmt (CAFM) plans (seating, dept boundaries, square footage), strategic planning, the design of any changes to furniture to construction, to opening and closing new facilities. Lots of 'employee issues'. I work in advertising so we shuffle people around a lot, more than I ever had to do at the bank. Always trying to minimize our real estate overhead, so we squeeze out $ in our purchasing. Usually I try to keep us ahead of changes but lately it's always catch up.

Day 4 of covering the boss while she's on vacation. The AWOL employee hasn't bothered to call in yesterday or today. Maybe she's quit. Hopefully she's not in a hospital somewhere. Attempts to contact have failed. Emergency contact is also unable to contact her. (Supposedly) We've tried. All we can legally do.

Here's a small rant:

Right and left, I'm seeing people dropping like flies due to last year's dumb-investors-and-dumber-executives clusterf%&& (I swear, if I hear the words "economic downturn" one more time, I'm going to put a bullet in my head). My own father (a mid-level executive for International Paper co.) lost close to a quarter of a million dollars in October--nearly half of his life's savings.

On the other hand, however, after I was let go from my job at the TV station, I was able to get a better job, and my bank account's the fattest it's ever been (well, without factoring in college expenses, but it would be a lot slimmer if I had kept my old job or not gotten a new one). They're even going to keep me on 'unpaid vacation' while I'm at college, so I can come back to work whenever I'm on break.

Why does this suck? Maybe it's my residual Irish Catholic guilt talking, but I feel really shitty riding high while almost everyone else is frying in credit hell. Every time I sign on to Paizo, I hear one more story of how people are sinking and losing money, or having to give up subscriptions. I wish there was something I could do about it, but short of sending people cash (thereby bankrupting myself), there isn't.

Silver lining: for every person who is sucking, six or seven more are doing okay.

Edit: Deleted for excessive whininess about something really stupid. Lesson: I shouldn't type while hungry.
It still sucks that my husband actually put forth the effort to do something nice for me and it totally didn't work out.
Also, I can't help but wonder what sort of kitchen accident results in sweet and sour sauce that tastes like pure lemon juice with a dash of vinegar thrown in.

What's that quote again? Something about when life hands the super-talented lemons, they make lemon-zest cookies?

Seriously, though, I hope you find something to keep you going, Lilith, and soon. Being long-term unemployed can suck.

I’ve been mulling this over for a few days. When I was in high school (well, the UK equivalent), I was part of a tight group of friends. I’ve been friends with them for twenty years.
One of them (“Z”) got married on Saturday. Although it was supposed to be a small wedding, I was not invited. In fact, only two people were invited from the town where we went to high school. “A” told me he thought it all stinked that so few people from the group were invited; he suggested I be the “bigger man” and send a wedding card, so I did. “B”, also from the same town but not part of the group in high school, was invited... B only became closer to Z in the late-‘90s when they got into smoking… things, and because I refused to take part in that, I was excluded from their (in)activities.
Even some of her male friends were invited to her hen do. They might have been some of her cousins, but that’s not the point.

When Z’s father died last year, she told me that she was surprised when I attended the funeral and social event afterwards. I mean, WTF? The father was a nice guy. Of course I’d attend.

So I’m kind of pissed at Z. If I do ever get married, she can **** off if she thinks that she’s invited.

So why is this in the suckage thread? Well, I know who my true friends are, or aren’t.

I suppose that in the larger scheme of things, it really doesn't matter!
