I need 2 teams of 4 members for the Fake Arena's match. Please post on this thread if interested, first 2 FULL teams to post will be chosen for the match. The match rules are as follows:

Both teams will get a standard action for prep time, no readying actions for when the doors open. Pcs will start at 3rd level (I will need rolls for HP linked from Invisible Castle), 32 pt buy, with the same Character Generation rules from the previous match with the following exceptions:
-The standard starting gold for 3rd level PCs, 2700gp. No one item being worth more than 50% of your starting wealth. Consumables (potions, alchemicals, scrolls, etc) cannot equal more than 25% of a PCs starting gold.
-Usable source books include the core 3 (PHB, DMG, and MM1) and the SRD.
-Monstrous PCs with a level adjustment of +1 are acceptable.

In the first round all competitors must move to exit the starting area because at the end of the second round the arena doors close, anyone still in the starting area when the doors close is DQed.
No switching sides in mid-battle. Initiative order will be kept for the entire battle, no rerolls.
Please use the standard format that the previous Colloseum gladiators used for character info under their profiles (I will post as Cashmere next for an example that can be used by clicking on his profile).
All rolls will be done on Invisible Castle and linked for proof.

There may be a twist to the combat so be prepared for anything. Muhaa-haaa. The crowd wants blood and they shall get it!

I'd be willing to take a shot at this, sounds like fun! I'll have a character built by the end of the day (hopefully). By the way, where should I send all the details when I'm done?

Are the teams going to be decided by alignment again?

Contributor

Fakey, I'd like to join in. So count me as #2 for the Team Discovery Channel! (Simpson joke, if you don't get it) I'll post a character name in character in a bit.

Details go on the profile page, click on Cashmere's names for an example of how the info needs to be laid out.

Teams weren't chosen by alignment last time, there were evil dudes on both sides. Teams are chosen by who posts with a complete team first. The original D&D Fight Club thread has a bunch of people getting together and forming teams. I suggest heading over there and finding a few like minded souls to band together with. There are a few teams forming already over there. Post back when you are ready. Good luck.

Vanin Ironheart, ready to spill some blood in glorious combat!

The Exchange

Ok, I was thinking of bunching Greer, Nameless, and Vanin (Black Baron) together in a Chaotic Good or Chaotic Evil team (you guys would decide which, your gladiators would need to be within one step of whatever alignment you chose) and save a spot for Vissigoth to join you guys in a few days. The match won't start for a couple days and all.
Let me know if that is agreeable to you 3 and if so you can start to build your combatants accordingly. Vanin already chose a fighter/cleric build.

I am thinking of starting this match on Saturday or Sunday. Vissigoth said he would be back on Saturday so this should work out well.
If a player doesn't take his turn within 24 hours the arenamaster will take his turn for him (I will definately allow some lee-way on the weekends), just FYI. I don't want the thread getting stale or anything.
FH

Sounds good to me. I would prefer Chaotic Good (given that Vanin is a cleric of Kord) but my character is Chaotic Neutral so I can go either way.

FYI -- I'll be out of town on Sunday and won't be able to post.

someone needs to make an arena so the various PBP parties can go toe to toe, or head to head...

I was planning on submitting a few more to Vissigoth for posting later this week.

I was gonna do an Arena with 3 player areas(for 3 teams), 4 player areas(for 4 teams), and a couple of variations. I also would like to see some team vs. monster(s) battles. I also would like to incorporate a bit more obstacles and terrain in a couple arenas. Once I get a bunch in I figure that the DM rolls a die to see which setup would be used for a match, or just picks one he/she likes.

Cool, finish your PC before then and include a modified initiative roll, as long as you aren't first some of the other players may get to take their turn. Otherwise we will get into full swing on monday. No worries.

Fatespinner here. I'm working up a cleric/bard. He's CG and... unique. :)

Working on a NE fighter/sorcerer. Just about finished.

Just make sure he fits in a team, we already have a CG or CE team(not sure which yet, the players haven't really discussed it yet and 2 team members are leaning in opposing ways with Black Baron wanting to do CG and Greer being CE so I may need to split into different teams.).

I can change the alignment as needed to suit the team that I get stuck into... as long as it's not lawful (being a bard and all...).

No worries, I did some team building exercises(ba-dum, Ching!) and you fit just fine as is.

Nilgaar is ready to spill some blood and make some widows. Who's with me?!

Contributor

Nilgaar = Steve Greer if you're too lazy to click on the avatar ;)

I'll submit a character for team Evil.

He will be some kind of Monk, haven't worked it out exactly yet. But I'll have it posted by the end of the day.

Edit: Hopefully the Evil team is not Chaotic evil. Maybe good to play Lawful Good vs Chaotic Good, the two extremes of the alignment spectrum.

Team Evil welcomes you!

I still like Team Discovery Channel ;)

Thankyou, but isn't it basically the same thing.

Sorry, but Cadel Evans (Australian Cyclist) came second in the Tour de France to Alberot Contador from Team Discovery Channel.

Threadjack over. Back to your regularly scheduled thread.

I'd like to give it a go, if no one minds. I'd be willing to work for either team.

Two questions though: With the 32 point buy, is that straight 1 for 1 purchasing? Or is there a scale I need to be aware of?
For Hit Points, do we get max at 1st level?

Liberty's Edge

If team evil is looking for a divine caster, I know an orc druid who might fit the bill...

Need to level up and change a few things, but he's halfway there!

Fake, is having our character stats listed in profile enough, or do we need to submit to some arena page I keep hearing about...?

Dark Archive RPG Superstar 2013 Top 32

Why don't we just use max hit points for our hit dice? Or average? Rolling HP for an arena fight seems a little silly to me. I mean, really, if I roll crappy, I can just scrap the character and make a new one until I get something good. What's the point?

Seems fair. Everyone's on a level footing that way (sort of like using point buy for abilities).

Plus, maxing hit dice means that the fights will last longer and be more exciting. No one wants to be cut down in the first round of combat by a lucky crit (though, with some weapons and spells, even max HP won't save you from that fate).

Totally agree.

Spoiler:
Plus I can't seem to get that dice roller at Invisible Castle to work. I keep getting a stupid error page. Grrrr!

As long as you can hold your own in a fight and not slow the rest of us down, you're welcome to Team Evil Discovery Channel.

Oh yer, can do that.

Evil discovery har har har!

I agree with max hit points (I rolled a dang 1)

I'm not a big fan of Slaads (death slaads are okay). Drow are okay but overused. I'm not a big fan of things like the rast or the belker. I've vener seen one used. I'm not usre who said it but I agree 100% about phantom fungi. I don't like shambling mounds much either. Unicorn and Pegasi are boring. Elemental monsters like the Thoqqa (or something like that) are boring too. Oh, and I HATE half-dragons.

Methinks this has been posted to the wrong thread, mmm?

That's weird. It told me it'd lost that post.
Anyway, what I was trying to post here was that If there's still space, I'd like to throw my hat in. Not particular what team I'm on. I'll post a concept ASAP.

Fake, if you want to use the map again, let me know. I've made a couple more adjustments that should allow the GM to make updates.

I haven't ironed out the CSS yet, but that shouldn't take much doing.

Email me at tdewitt274 at hotmail dot com.

I am ready to go. Bring it on!!

I agree with the full hitpoints, it would be good to be a bit tougher.

Hitpoints rolled 2d8=9

Team Good so far

Black Baron
Fatespinner
Nameless
Disenchanter

Team Evil so far

Steve Greer
Vissigoth
Mevers
Mothman

All spots are filled. Sorry to the later posters. If we had a couple people who would be willing to run we could have everyone gaming in different fights all at once...maybe when this picks up some more steam.

To Disenchanter: The point buy price list is on page 169 of the DMG. I will also list the prices here:
Ability score-----Point cost
9 1
10 2
11 3
12 4
13 5
14 6
15 8
16 10
17 13
18 16

To all combatants heres a couple things....
Please have a character's profile updated with all info and ready to run by this Saturday. I will be going over them to ensure that the rules were followed for things like "no more than 25% of a PCs wealth can be allocated towards consumables" and such.
You guys may want to start a team thread to discuss some tactics, that is up to the people on the teams (we didn't in the last battle).
Vissigoth is supposed to be back on Saturday and able to post.

To everyone who is on a team and has a PC made up I AGREE WITH THE MAX-HIT-POINTS-PER-LEVEL THING. Wish I had considered that before posting the generation rules. Please adjust your PC to have Max HP and post in character after this post.
I hope to start the battle sometime Sunday.

Arena character for Disenchanter, submitted for review.

Unrelated question: Why are almost all of the male avatars old, or have pointed ears??

Adventuring is dangerous. I couldn't tell you how many trees I've destroyed drawing up new characters!
