Let me know if you're still having difficulties getting the items. It looks like most of the "normal" drop items aren't going for all that much at the mall. The ones to really get are the ones from the Spirit of Crimbo. Combining those items will eventually get you a nifty new outfit. But since you can only two of the unique ones a day, there won't be too many of those floating around.

If you need a little bit of a boost, I can send you some lavender candy hearts your way.

True. And I'm tryign to get as many as I can. Hopefully I'll end up with the uniform + a few extras. And for anyone else looking for Fat Stacks still, like I was, I've found it cheaper to adventure in the Guano Junction to find briefcases for them then to buy them at the mall. Posted this in the Clan board too.

Re: briefcase bats...

My suggestion is to do a quest at the Bounty Hunter's Shack and pick up an odor extractor (or two or three...) and then use it on the briefcase bats. (Assuming that you don't have "Transcendent Olfaction" skill). This will make make the briefcase bat appear far more regularly for 40 turns. I got 37 briefcases out of two uses. About half of those end up being fat stacks of cash. But getting 18 fat stacks of cash that way was rather worth it.

I've made it work now. I only lost one day of mutant Crimbo stuff, so it shouldn't be a big deal.

OH! That's how those work. ya. that'd do it too. gonna try that tomorrow.

Don't forget gentlemen, that there is a familiar in addition to the outfit. He's not very good, but hey, free familiar. I'd make sure to get him.

Huh. Wouldn't have even known about that if you hadn't mentioned it...Thanks!

What's the familiar recipe? I'm a sucker for familiars, no matter how useless they might be.

You too, eh? well here it is. Link

basically ((Unstable DNA + Pulsing Flesh)+(Unstable DNA + Pulsing Flesh))+(Twitching Claw + Twitching Claw)

Wish I'd known before I started making the outfit. now i'm 2 pulsing fleshs and a twitching claw behind on the familiar.

Grand Lodge

Haha! It looks pretty cool to me. I've got about half the needed components, so I'll keep on crankin'.

BTW, the Odor Extractor really works - I got 18 briefcases out of one use, giving me 12 fat stacks of cash. Of course, I just got old Crimbo junk, but I could get lucky...

It's all old Crimbo junk...the first time you get either a dollhouse or familiar, the second and third time you get accessories/toys and the fourth onwards. you get food i think. Moff outlined it in one of his previous posts here. At any rate, I don't see any "new items" in the wiki entries. but since i wasn't here last Crimbo, it's all new to me.

Grand Lodge

Yeah, I was just hoping I might get a Crimbo Pressie or something like that. A man can dream...

Scarab Sages

Found another item to create with the mutant drops -- the Burrowgrub Hive.

Anyone find anything else?

Grand Lodge

I have a Parasitic Strangleworm.

*bleech*

It's actually not half bad - it's an off-hand item that gives me Damage Reduction 15

In addition to the strangleworm, I have a Parasitic Claw. It's a one-handed weapon that deals a maximum of +15 extra damage, or +30 if you have the effect of Unstable DNA active.

Grand Lodge

The mutant stuff is actually rather good - I just have some choice items after umphteen ascensions. I'll definitely collect the whole new outfit and the new familiar, though. That helmet-mouth looks pretty cool, though.

Scarab Sages

Does anyone have access to jewelry crafting currently? I have need of some jewelry. (And could make it worth your while.)

Grand Lodge

I have the tools, but since I can't access Little Canadia, I can't get posts and rings... :(

Scarab Sages

Ok, I officially have one more Twitching Claw and Pulsing Flesh and one less rigid carapace then I need to make every crimbo item so far. anyone with more then 5 rigid carapaces (Which is what you need to get everything) who needs a twitching claw or pulsing flesh? I suppose I could be patient and wait and prolly get what i need tomorrow, but I'm not a patient guy, so I figured I'd ask.

Also, though the dollhouses are worth quite a bit in the store, I'd rather have the Bulky buddy Box (I have the others), so if anyone wants, I'm willing to trade dollhouses (or dollhives if you prefer) for it. possibly even 2-1, which would be an estimated 20000meat bonus for you (based on last checked mall prices).

I haven't been having much luck with the Sturdy Crates. All I've gotten have been doll houses and dollhives. I do have some extra bulky buddy boxes left over from last Crimbo that I'd be willing to trade with you. (I'm fairly indifferent as to which I'd prefer in return.)

I can also get you the rigid carapace if you need. You can send me over either one of the extras you have.

Scarab Sages

Whee! I now have all the crimbo items thus far, and all the available older familars from the sturdy crates. Thanks Moff!

The Hulking El Vibrato Construct hit me for 82,696 points of damage. Ouch!

I might want to leave that place alone until I gain a few levels.

BTW, am I the only one who finds The Spirit Of Crimbo rather creepy, in a H.C. Andersen meets George Orwell way?

Ya. I kinda decided to leave it alone. the only think it has that i want is the familiar and it isn't worth the effort at this point. maybe later.

and no. it is creepy. mutants, redemption through song, and penguins (though that's not part of the spirit, but i'm lumping it in here) are creepy.

Scarab Sages

Looks like there's some new swag to collect. There's a new penguin that drops canteens of wine and depleted grimicite knecapping sticks (though they won't give grimicite if pulverized) and a new elf dropping cookies and a whittling knife. They aren't the best weapons around, but they are worth a lot in the mall.

edit: Darn. spent the entire day trying and got nothing. oh well. try again tomorrow i guess.

Grand Lodge

Still, that's good to know. I have all the mutant stuff, so I need an excuse to keep coming back.

Vattnisse wrote:

The Hulking Construct you cannot beat. Pretty much period. If you go to that area, make sure that you have unequipped any automatic actions. If you do anything, it will kill you. There is a way to beat it, however. You need to feed it computer cards that you can get as drops from the other constructs. You can tell it to attack the floor, attack itself, or attack the wall. If you tell it to attack itself, it won't drop anything but you will "win". If you tell it to attack the floor, it will have some drops. However, if you tell it to attack the wall, it may give you drops that are only available through this action. The cards that are dropped in this way can be used to tell other constructs to build you the El Vibrato Relics outfit. (Which is especially nice during Halloween.)

Hope that helps.

I pumped up everyone's drop rates for some more adventures. Hopefully that will help.

I pumped myself up about as much as I can. (Got myself a 56 pound sleazy gravy fairy.) I just got two limbos gingerbread. I'll see if I can get anything from the penguins. But I'm pretty well tapping out my resources.

see, I got 2 cookies too, and from the penguins like 4 or 6 wine canteens. I got the bounty hunting hat now too, so only one more part to go. too bad crimbo'll be over before i got the set. Hope I got enough to get the cooler items now. tomorrow I'll pick up the odor extractor to keep trying to get that kneecapping stick.

The drop rates on these guys is pretty tough. I've got +100% drop rate from my outfit alone. With bootyliciousness, blue tongue, object detection, heart of lavender, cupcake of choice, ocelot eyes, and ermine eyes (another +120% drop rates) and I even had one good eye going for 10 rounds (another 100%) along with a 56 pound gravy fairy (around another 100%) -- I still currently only got 2 limbos gingerbread, 1 depleted grimacite kneecapping stick, 1 wine canteen, 1 gray bowtie, and 1 festive hat. I'm still going, but I was really hoping for more drops than that.

EDIT -- I'm done there for today. I ended up getting 2 more limbos gingerbread and 1 more festive holiday hat. (I got some nice stats though.)

Scarab Sages

Ya, the math in this game confuses me somewhat. if you're increasing the drop rate by 100%, then shouldn't that alone guerentee a drop? unless they have some ability to drop the rate or something. incresing it so that you have a +400% chance to item drops...i dunno. and it still doesn't guerentee it. i mean if an item has a 50% chance, then it drops half the time. increasing that to 450%? ya. confused is the right word.

If the base drop rate is say 2% -- then increasing it by 100% would make the new drop rate a whopping 4%. (And so on.) It has taken me quite a while to figure it all out.

And given that the whittling knife and the grimacite kneecapping stick are going for around 300,000 meat in the mall currently, I'd guess that the base drop rate is 1% or less.

Another new enemy:
- mutant circuit-soldering elf: drops elven moonshine, miniature antlers (Familiar equipment)

I havn't noticed any new penguins yet. And I still havn't been able to get any of the new equipment (The knife or stick), but I did manage to snag the antlers. Guess I'm gonna miss it this time around. Oh well. All I can do is try.

edit: and nope. another day down and still no stick or knife.

I've got one stick. No antlers or knife. (A fair amount of limbos gingerbread and elven moonshine though. Not that many canteens of wine.)

Scarab Sages

Ya, the penguins don't want to seem to drop stuff as much as the elves (which isn't saying much really...), but the way i look at it I'm missing an item from 1/5 of the encounters with elves and 1/4 of the encounters with penguins. by my reckoning I have better odds with the penguins to fight the one guy i don't have the item from yet. that increased fight% may be enough to balance out the apparently lower drop%.

...I am way overthinking this game. On the plus side, I've been collecting pieces to the other clothes. Enough to supply anyone with anything they're missing at any rate. (And just a tip, zapping an article yields the corresponding item from the other side. so if you have 2 festive hats but no bow tie, then zap a festive hat or send it to me and i'll do it. you get a tie.)

Well, there's another type of penguin now: the Mob Peguin psycopath.

Man, the drop rates are annoying. I've been able to obtain 32 limbos gingerbread, 18 elven moonshine, 21 canteens of wine, and 12 knuckle sandwiches and a whopping 1 depleted grimacite kneecapping stick. I broke down and bought an elven whittling knife. And I've been using up a lot of my resources. It's starting to get expensive.

Nice - that Psycho Sweater is a choice piece of swag. Maybe I should start spending some time beating up penguins.

I don't fully understand the drop rates (apparently). I had myself buffed as high as I could go -- blue-frosted astral cupcakes, blue snowcones, eyedrops, candy hearts, familiar buffs (had a 46 pound hound dog) and so on. I used transcendent olfaction to target the psycho penguin. After sixty adventures and around 45 dead psycho penguins I still came up empty handed. I decided to finish up the transcendent olfaction anyway -- and THAT was when I finally got the sweater. AFTER all my buffs had worn off. All I can say is -- good luck. And keep trying. I finally now have one of each of the tough drops. If I get any extras, I'll let you know.

Scarab Sages

SWEET! Go see Uncle Crimbo for a gift! Got me a sweet watch boosting mysticality and adventures per day.

Scarab Sages

Ok, so the KoL announcement today said ...

KoL wrote:
Another Crimbo season has come and gone, and Crimbo Town has once again faded into the eldritch mists. Wait, no it hasn't. Huh, that's weird. Wait -- great Ceasar's underpants, what in the hell is that thing? It's not human! It's not even elven! Aiiiigh!

If you go there to attack the monstrosity, expect to die. It did 36,000 points of damage to me. Um, ouch. However, make sure to do the Spirit of Crimbo on it. It looks like the first drop is a unique drop that will give you a "hardcore permanent" ability.

Anyone know how to kill it yet?

Grand Lodge

Um, it only did 17000 damage on me... I'll do the Spirit Of Crimbo on it tomorrow.

Well, I just thought of a way to theoretically kill the thing. This assumes any damage done to it stays after you get beaten up, and you are able to use chefstaves. Now, get a container of Spooky Putty from Mr Store and shape it into the Snake. When you shake the Snake at an enemy, it's hit points are apparently reduced by 1/4. Shake the snake at it, get knocked out, heal, and keep repeating this until the Crimbomination is down to one hit point. Then, do whatever you want to do to kill the thing.

Of course, you'd end up with several hundred rounds of "Beaten Up", but it may be worth it.

Grand Lodge

The Crimbomination is probably unkillable. However, as small pieces of mutant stuff falls off it, I guess it'll be around until enough players have read the Spirit of Crimbo to it.

Grand Lodge

The only hobo left is Hodgman, the Hoboverlord (BTW, Hodgman's book The areas of my expertise is hillarious - don't let his stint as PC scare you away). What happens once someone (Turin Elffriend? Frumious B?) kills him? Does Hobopolis reset itself automatically, or do we need to re-buy it?

Scarab Sages

Vattnisse wrote:

I or Gavgoyle (Big Coffin Hunter) can flood the sewers making them "closed". Then we can re-open them for the unbelievably low price of 1 million meat. (At least we don't have to dig up a basement again for 10 million meat.) Once we drain it after being flooded, the whole thing resets. So right now, we are a little more than halfway towards buying Hobopolis again.

It's interesting that "Uncle Crimbo" is now "Uncle Hobo". I wonder if he will start having an appearance in Hobopolis.

I don't know how many more hobos we need to kill before getting to Hodgmans. Turin Elfriend has asked to kill him.

As for me, I may still try and help out a little until Crimbo is actually over. So far, in a year and a half, I've only ascended twice. There are a lot of skills I'd like to make permanent. I would really like to do a good number of ascensions before going at it again.

EDIT: I guess that there is only Hodgeman left. Good luck Turin and let me know if you need any buffs or items.

Grand Lodge

Moff Rimmer wrote:

Yeah - me too. I'll start buffing you up when I get my turns tonight.

Or not. Congrats on beating Hodgman!
