Character Rebuilding

While I realize it's not likely a realistic thing to allow, I still think it would be nice to be able to do a one-time rebuild on a character before 5th level, or 20 fame, or whatever, without changing gear/etc.

For example, I got my Mom into PFS a few months back and helped her to create a fighter/rogue to play. At first she was really enthusiastic about the build, but as she leveled up she started to look at prestige classes and fell in love with one. Unfortunately, because of the build we went with, it'd take a real 180 sorta turn to make the character fit the bill.

Of course, now that she's hit 5th level and is over 20 fame, my suggested limit has already been passed, but it's a good example of the situation I wanted to bring up.

So basically what I'd like to see is some way for players of low level to be allowed a one-time per character re-build of class archetypes/feats/etc without changing gear, gold, prestige, etc. If they have to sell things back to fit their new build, so be it. This rebuild can't just be an easy way for someone to go from fighter at level 1 to wizard at level 4-5 with no penalties.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Should I tell him? Or let him stew in his pot for not having paid attention? ;)

I don't really come onto the boards very often, but I found nothing of the sort listed in the PFS guide as to allowing this unless there was a drastic change to a feat, class, prestige class, etc...

I'm just kidding around. The topic was brought up a while back of potentially allowing rebuilds. I don't know if there's more info on the super-secret VC boards or not, but my understanding is that Mike Brock intends to add limited rebuild rules starting with Season 4/August's new Guide.

From what I remember from the discussion thread, the idea is that if you have 3XP or less, you can rebuild your character. That way if someone tries PFS for the first time at a Con or with First Steps or something, they can get to the end and not be stuck with something they thought was cooler than it was.

To my knowledge, there's no info out yet as to how extensive the rebuilds might be.

There is no rule allowing rebuilds… YET

That's all I'd heard about, and while that sort of rebuild is nice, I'm not sure how much of a feel a person can get for their character with just one or two scenarios under their belt. Especially for new players.

Jiggy is saying a player could rebuild any time up til the beginning of the scenario/module in which the character will gain it's 4th point of experience. I know that's not much better than what you are saying, but even if this does get approved and added in, I would think the amount of leeway you are talking about is still going to be out of the question.

Your mom is always free to make a new character to try out the prestige class she is wanting. With her main character being level 5, it's about time she made a new character anyway. ;)

Like I said, I never really expected that sort of rebuild to be allowed, but it would be nice.

As for Mom, she's already got several characters. She's not dead-set on the prestige class, so it's no big deal. It just would've been nice to have allowed her to do that.
